Main topic for project: Under Ground Chattanooga(changed from Delta Queen)

Underground Chattanooga Summary: In 1867, rain fell for four days causing one of the largest floods recorded in Chattanooga’s history. A city already damaged by floods for years, was finally pushed to the brink when the river was nearly 28 feet above flood stage. This jump started discussion about raising the city above the height of the latest flooding. In 1875 of March, when the river flooded 20 feet about flood stage, the city decided something needed to drastically change. Slowly and steadily, the townspeople gradually started raising their street level anywhere from 3-15 feet. Eventually, much of downtown Chattanooga was raised about a story. First floors became basements and second floors became ground floors, however this incredible accomplishment has practically been forgotten in history. Only recently has underground Chattanooga risen from the underground depths, due to reconstruction problems, water line breakage, and sewer stench.
