Footnotes edit

For How to create footnotes, please see Help:Referencing for beginners. basically, you write your footnote text inside <ref></ref>. Example: [1]. The software behind Wikipedia will then do the rest for you. Victor Schmidt (talk) 14:13, 30 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

There is no transliteration given on the page. Though if there was one, it should be Amṛtā Prītama. Pur 0 0 (talk) 19:12, 6 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

This is called IPA. I'm sorry, but I don't know how to transliterate that. Especially not this one, since I don't know Punjabi alphabet. Pur 0 0 (talk) 13:25, 10 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Indic Script edit

Hi, it is regarding recent changes/additions like this. Per WP:NOINDICSCRIPT, we are not supposed to add Indian scripts in article leads and infoboxes. We can have IPA or IAST instead. Please do the needful changes. Thanks. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 13:37, 11 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

From WP:NOINDICSCRIPT,
This avoidance of Indic scripts only applies to articles that are predominantly India-related and is excluded from, among others, articles about Hinduism, Buddhism, or any of India's neighbouring countries.
One reason Indian scripts are avoided is that there often are too many languages with their own native script, each of which can be original names for a topic. Additionally, there are too often problems with verifiability of the accuracy of the non-English spelling. A third reason is frequent disagreements over which native scripts to include; this led to a resolution to avoid all of them.
Basically IAST/IPA/ISO 15919 are all used when the article is regarding something relevant to India, not Hindi. Punjab Kesari is relevant to Hindi rather than India, as it is a Hindi newspaper. The fact that it happens to be Indian is irrelevant, since it is a company, so it can be used anywhere around the world. Pur 0 0 (talk) 11:41, 12 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
