About Bhagat Singh's Arrest in Dusara Bomb Case

edit

Dear concerned, I appreciate your efforts for helping in editing and revising the article on Bhagat Singh. I had added information regarding the said topic along with the required citation, which was removed by you in an attempt to improve the article by removal of original researches, and the citation proves the information to be a fact rather than original research. I request you to go through the citation and read through the comment on the Bhagat Singh Talk page that I've added. Thank you for your sincere efforts. - Ashubhalaa (talk) 06:36, 26 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

About Kotkapura Article

edit

Someone named Sardar Ujjal Singh was governor of Punjab province from 1/9/65 until 26/6/66. This may make him notable, assuming that this is the same person as the astrologer, which I consider somewhat unlikely (Very many Sikhs in Punjab). I spent over twenty minutes googling various combinations of his name and astrologer/astrology, and didn't come up with anything coherent, or really anything useful at all. Now, it is entirely possible that astrologers are too busy looking at stars to bother making a webpage, and that their followers are too busy living their lives by the stars. India is an enormous and somewhat undeveloped country with more people than my mind can really comprehend - with population(as well as belief system(s), education, and technology) what they are in India, I could also see where this man has been very influential in the lives of very many people. More influential, and to more people, than many contemporary English Fiction authors and pop music writers, many of whom have their own WikiPedia page without "notability" tags. Really, this page might be able to use an "expert attention" tag.. (Attention from an expert in what, though?!) I can certainly see, however, where this section you dispute has POV problems... As well as your deletion of it. On a more personal note, sorry if my tone has been somewhat terse and acerbic; I've just fought with Windows Vista and my ISP for an hour or more, and had to rewrite a longer and better worded post. I posted something very similar to this on Talk:Kotkapura as well. Nowhere near as well worded as what I had written, I swear.. Also, you ought consider making a userpage for User:Profitoftruth85 as well - that's you, and you're redlinked. (On a sidenote, after looking at the article, but before reading the talk page and your posts to user_talk:Hydrogen_Iodide, I considered slapping you with a uw-delete1. However, I decided against this because you were civil, and explained your rationale. Now, I am completely undecided on the issue, and I think it needs expert attention. If you decide to take on this article yourself, and want any copyediting or other minor help.. Let me know on my talk page; I'm a historian and philosopher by education and a construction worker by trade. Beats me if I really would be any use.)

info. box changes

edit

You have recently changed several of the information boxes regarding battles of the First and Second Anglo-Sikh wars. Replacing Khalsa by Sikh Empire might not be controversial, but you exchanged the sides for the combatants so that the Sikhs appeared to be led by British generals and vice versa. Likewise, the strengths and casualties were reversed. When making such changes to an info. box, all the information must be switched to avoid incorrect details. War of 1812

edit

The failure of Britain to abandon the posts on what became US territory per the Treaty of Paris (1783) is not relevant to the War of 1812. Jay's Treaty of 1794 solved this issue, as well as the failure of the US to observe the same treaty and pay debts to British creditors. Historians cite issues about maritime disputes, the problem with the Indians, impressment, and the claim that the US wanted to annex Canada. Dwalrus (talk) 01:53, 24 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Re:Khalistan movement edit summary

edit

What I meant was that, in the previous version of the article, there was written 'in 2009'. This seems to have been added during the year 2009 wth the intention of it meaning 'this year'. However, because the year has passed, it is no longer meaning 'this year'. And if there was a year, the year given would have to be updated every year. Thus, it is best not to include any year when the meaning is basically 'as of now'. Did I explain that well enough? Munci (talk) 23:40, 9 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Well. i haven't been editing much of the English Wikipedia (well i was mostly involved with list articles and episode pages on eng wiki) recently or Punjabi wikipedia either. I am on and off because of college. I havn't really seen or contacted anyone that edits sikhism articles on english wiki, so i can';t really be sure who's active and who's not. there aren't much editors on Punjabi Wikipedia either. well, maybe you could ask people on sikhiwiki, i think [user:hari singh] and User:Hpt_lucky (this one his english wiki user page User:Harisingh and User:Hpt_lucky, ythough i think they can be reached quickly on sikhiwiki rather than this wiki) I think you will find some editors that edit sikhiwiki and were at some point active on english wiki page. or someone else at that wiki might help. I don;t really know anyone that active on english wiki. Im sorry, i'm not much help i guess. pa:User:Guglani might help with some, but I've only seen him come on like once a month or several months after sometime of punjabi wiki. Irgun

edit

The following categories:

- British Mandate of Palestine

- Pre-IDF military units

- Militant Zionist groups

- Yishuv

- Revisionist Zionism

- Zionist terrorism

- Jews and Judaism-related controversies...

were removed from the Irgun's article because already are in the main category of this organization.

The only category I completely deleted is history of Israel, because the category British Mandate of Palestine is already included in Israel's history category.

I hope this explanation be helpful for you. Greetings--AndresHerutJaim (talk) 04:04, 29 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Edits on Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh

edit

Hi,

Is your other problem with the source "the writer of the article has POV issues"? What is the basis of your claim? The edit referring to this article does not use anything the writer is saying. So POV should not be a problem here. A reliable source, TNIE, is being used here to get info about a white paper by government. White papers are accessible via RTI for public reference. So Even if there is a POV issue with the writer, this particular edit is under criticism section. Arguments and counter-arguments are necessary to be mentioned to make the section balanced and neutral as far as possible.

--Deshabhakta (talk) 15:03, 5 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

The problem is the article on TNIE is an editorial in the opinions section of the newspaper, its not in the news section. So this isn't really about the reliability of TNIE but about the reliability of that opinion piece. I'm not removing any information I just read them and thought they would be challenged later on. I inserted the better source template so another editor with more knowledge on this white paper would find a more reliable source.
I also understand what you're saying about POV being needed to balance the article, however, it's important that POV sources not be used to quote primary sources, because they could make their own intrepretaion seem like the reality.

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Template:Military of India. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24-hour period. Additionally, users who perform several reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. When in dispute with another editor you should first try to discuss controversial changes to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. Should that prove unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection. If the edit warring continues, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. BilCat (talk) 10:02, 16 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

  • I've removed the "warning" issued by the IP user. It is probable that the same person is using several IPs to revert you, and thus is "baiting" you into getting a block, while escaping one themselves. It's tough, but you need to back of the reverting for awhile, and try other means, such as protecting the page. Thanks. - BilCat (talk) 21:30, 16 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use File:Jassa Singh Ramgarhia - Thakur Singh.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Jassa Singh Ramgarhia - Thakur Singh.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Replaceable fair use File:Jassa Singh Ramgarhia.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Jassa Singh Ramgarhia.jpg.

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

File source problem with File:Lyndon B. Johnson visiting National Youth Administration projects -36-1slash2-1- Jan.Feb, 1936.jpg

edit

Thank you for uploading File:Lyndon B. Johnson visiting National Youth Administration projects -36-1slash2-1- Jan.Feb, 1936.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 10:42, 4 May 2011 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. Mdhsj71

Recently PROFIT.. undid my addition, that could only enrich the article. My humble submission is that "Quality Information" should not be stopped from reaching those scholars who do not have access to these costly articles.

I mentioned a path breaking article published in prestigious journal India Review (Taylor and Francis, U.K.). The article costs $35. Scholars from developed country have access to such articles (that is why they are far more advanced in producing research output) but wikipedia can help un-resourceful aspirants by at least communicating to them the key arguments of such important papers which are published in these reputed journals only because they are "path breaking"/innovative and tells something new.

I can guess why you deleted it. So I will make those changes.

NOW, in future, before you decide to undo any such edit that shares a new RESEARCH (inaccessible to IIIrd World scholars) , PLEASE think of millions of people who NEED information FREE of cost. Mdhsj71 (talk) 04:52, 24 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

The reason I removed that section was because the purpose of the article is to be a general overview of Indira Gandhi's life, not an in-depth study of her economic policy. Also, sources are more reliable the more they have been cited in other papers and this paper seems to go against current scholarly research, so it seems to be a fringe viewpoint. In addition, there are far more important papers on India's economic policy which are not described in detail because that is not the purpose of wikipedia. I also suggest that you take article discussions to the talk pages of articles so other editors can weigh in. I am reverting your edit, if you want to discuss further let's create a new section on the talk page.--Profitoftruth85 (talk) 12:10, 24 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:Bathinda.gif

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Bathinda.gif, which you've sourced to http://punjabgovt.nic.in/ which states "Copyright 2012 Government of Punjab. All rights reserved.". I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. Thanks for uploading File:1928 Southwest Texas State Teachers College Debate Team - 28-13-1 - ca. 1928.jpg. You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Pramukh Swami and BAPS

edit

Any insight would be helpful:

A scandal broke out a week ago in the BAPS group about two former swami's that accused the head of this organization of rape. I have been dealing with Swaminarayan topic for a few days now. Could some one explain the WP:BLPCRIME policy as it relates to this. This is a sensitive topics and any input would be helpful. Here is what is posted now in the controversy section:

On 22 Oct 2013, BAPS responded to the allegations made by two former sadhus (Sanjay Shah (Priyadarshandas) and Rakesh Bhavsar (Nishkamsevadas) ) that the claims made against Pramukh Swami and his sadhus are utterly baseless and false.[1] Indian reported that “Pramukh Swami, who heads BAPS, and four other top swamis, of alleged assault dating back to the 1970s when they were students at the gurukul.”[2]

Here are additional sources:

http://www.dnaindia.com/ahmedabad/report-ahmedabad-sexual-harassment-case-against-more-sadhus-1907573 http://www.baps.org/Announcement/2013/Message-for-All-5347.aspx http://www.indianexpress.com/news/baps-refutes-allegations-by-former-sadhus/1186609/ http://www.sandesh.com/article.aspx?newsid=2878833 http://www.dnaindia.com/ahmedabad/report-ahmedabad-2-ex-sadhus-accuse-pramukh-swami-and-4-of-sexual-abuse-1908114 http://www.gujaratglobal.com/index.php/current-news/2222-now-baps-sadhus-in-sex-controversy http://daily.bhaskar.com/article/GUJ-AHD-swami-maharaj-performed-unnatural-sex-on-me-for-over-25-years-in-gujarat-and-on--4413768-NOR.html

Main question here is that should these allegation be on Wiki for Pramukh Swami Maharaj under a controversy section. Reply here and there. The main controllers of the article claim that this man is relatively unknown outside of India but in the article itself, it states that he is single-handedly responsible for global growth.

Any help would be helpful. Thank you for you time.

Replaceable fair use File:Battle of Multan - Devender Singh.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Battle of Multan - Devender Singh.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Fut.Perf. 10:03, 18 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
