User pages

edit

I think the key sentence in the user page guidelines is "Think of [your user page] as a way of organizing the work that you are doing on the articles in Wikipedia, and also a way of helping other editors to understand with whom they're working." Although you may be a frequent reader of the encyclopedia, you haven't done any editing, so there is not much need to communicate with other editors. Course outlines are not relevant to the editors of Wikipedia. When I came across your user page, I saw that there was nothing on it about Wikipedia and it is just a personal home page. That, in combination with your low editing to the encyclopedia, made me think that you were using Wikipedia as a free web host. Would it not make sense to host this website on your own, and link to individual pages on Wikipedia? That would provide the same amount of exposure to your students. Like I said, I am apparently in a fog about the definition of a User. Your definition is a tad rigid, no? In any case, I am waiting for the final word from the discussion and then I can surely adapt my page to suit the decision that is made. I am actually perplexed that this all matters to anyone! It's just a few k out in cyberspace, working hard to keep the information flowing... ProfL
Ms. Lauber, you might investigate what has to be done to obtain a page on http://www.cobleskill.edu/facultysites.html - since the people there seem to range from full professors to secretarial staff, it should be possible for you to place your information there. It's simply outside the scope of the Wikipedia project to have your college information here, although I admire your thoroughness in linking to other articles when appropriate.
I thought this message might go better here than in the deletion discussion. Feel free to reply here or on my own talk page. -- nae'blis 20:59, 3 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
On Wikipedia, a "user" is an editor. You are using the page to host your work outside Wikipedia, and that is the "free web hosting" which is not allowed. We regularly delete people who post about their bands on their user pages. There is no difference. I hope this clarifies the issue, as you seem to have some confusion. Please feel free to ask me any questions if anything is at all unclear. KillerChihuahua?!? 14:23, 4 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
OK, up and running again and thoroughly guidelined about usage. Thanks again and look forward to working with you all. ProfL 02:35, 8 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Berlinbabylon.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Berlinbabylon.jpg. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have any questions, please post them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

Thank you for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 02:35, 22 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

consider it done! ProfL

Orphaned non-free media (File:SUNY Cobleskill seal.png)

edit

Thanks for uploading File:SUNY Cobleskill seal.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Werieth (talk) 16:50, 17 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
