It looks like we need to broaden the scope of this abusive editor's ban, and gather in his sock puppet account as well. He posted on my Talk: page in violation of his topic ban as well as yours, so it looks like this abusive editor did not learn a lesson and seeks to waste even more volunteer editors' time. Damotclese (talk) 03:17, 5 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
By "sock puppet", do you mean Laval (talk · contribs)? I've not seen any evidence to suggest sockpuppetry on either user's part. I agree that Sfarney has got away lightly with a blatant topic ban violation but I think it's basically being treated with a light touch on the grounds of ambiguity. I don't think he'll get a second chance. I'm not too worried about repeat incidents as I think he'll be well aware that he won't be treated leniently next time. FAC voluntary mentoring scheme edit

During a recent lengthy discussion on the WP:FAC talkpage, several ideas were put forward as to how this procedure could be improved, particularly in making it more user-friendly towards first-time nominees. The promotion rate for first-timers at FAC is depressingly low – around 16 percent – which is a cause for concern. To help remedy this, Mike Christie and I, with the co-operation of the FAC coordinators, have devised a voluntary mentoring scheme, in which newcomers will guided by more experienced editors through the stages of preparation and submission of their articles. The general format of the scheme is explained in more detail on Wikipedia: Mentoring for FAC, which also includes a list of editors who have indicated that they are prepared to act as mentors.

Would you be prepared to take on this role occasionally? If so, please add your name to the list. By doing so you incur no obligation; it will be entirely for you to decide how often and on which articles you want to act in this capacity. We anticipate that the scheme will have a trial run for a few months before we appraise its effectiveness. Your participation will be most welcome. Thanks and request edit

Hey @Prioryman: I just read and reviewed your expansion and DYK hook for Ciampate del Diavolo, which I like a lot. This is my field of research (generally) and it was exciting to learn about such an interesting site.

I've been trying to get a review of my recent DYK nomination for a new article I've written, Timber Sycamore, that I'm pretty excited about. Mostly because I can't believe I hadn't known about the program before. However, EEng would rather copyedit, and Maile66 fears they don't have the expertise to review. So, I thought I'd put in a request. Let me know what you think. Best, Darouet (talk) 16:36, 22 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Africa Destubathon edit

Hi, thanks for your work so far! Can you do me a favour though and always add every entry you do to the main list here as well as the entries page, regardless if yet approved or not as that's the master list of all articles being done. It's just veyr time consuming for me to be judging the articles, trying to contribute myself and chasing up what people have done and filling it out for people each time. So if you can take care of that this would be a great help, there's some part filled out ones underneath so you just need to add country, article name and then you username. Is there any chance for my DYK nomination to be used for Halloween? edit

For most of this year I have been working on a very thorough and comprehensive timeline of pterosaur research that I recently nominated for DYK. Because the hook mentions pterosaurs having been thought to be an infernal creation of the devil I was hoping it could head one of the Halloween sets. I know it's really last minute but is there any way this could happen? I'm willing to take on extra QPQ loads or something if there is a way we can expedite the review process. We could also break it up and, say, have multiple users review a decade of the timeline each or something. Abyssal (talk) 19:10, 27 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

DYK rules require a source for hooks edit

Re {{Did you know nominations/Warratyi}} edits [1], [2]...

WP:DYKRULES#Eligibility criteria says (with my emphasis here):

3. Cited hook – The fact(s) mentioned in the hook must be cited in the article

...

b. Each fact in the hook must be supported in the article by at least one inline citation ...

Could you point me to and/or quote the "current DYK rules" that say that the source/reference should be listed in the nomination?
(They source/ref certainly does not appear in the "Did you know..." section on Main Page.)

The current situation is a bit confusing, actually. See my query at [3]. Hopefully others will be able to shed some more light on it. Prioryman (talk) 13:27, 12 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Jim Delligatti), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000.
