Removal of {{prod}} templates on The Lucifer and Biscuit Hammer

Unlike speedy deletion templates, proposed deletion templates can be removed by any editor. The thinking is that 'no one' would object to a proposed deletion, by removing the template they are demonstrating that 'someone' does object. It might just be worth pointing out that the proposed BLP-prod template for newly created unreferenced BLPs may well be "sticky" in some sense: most likely, no one will be allowed to remove the tag unless sources are added to the article. The whole thing is still in development: Wikipedia talk:Sticky Prod workshop‎‎. Be warned, though, that it is not easy to follow the discussion on that page! Basically, it followed on from the massive RfC on unreferenced BLPs, Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Biographies of living people (that is phase 2, BTW!) --Jubilee♫clipman 23:30, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

Very true. The experience is also probably good. I've never actually done a lot with FA's, so I'll probably read over the criteria before doing more work. And I work better doing small copyedits and then coming back, so I'll just pop in from time to time. I'll also watch the FA review page and may address any more concerns raised there. Actually, you can use 's after letters and numbers (at least in BrE), especially if there is likely to be confusion: "dot your ts and cross your is"... :P Anyway, on a completely unrelated note (as usual (but related to the post immediately above)), I have sourced and expanded Margaret Peterson Haddix, one of the articles I was asked to watch. There are my trusty TPS'ers! I do use apostrophes when making letters plural (instead of FAs), which I believe is acceptable. @Jubileeclipman - I saw that, but was trying to stay away - obviously it's not working! When I actually read through the article, it does need work. I've never really content edited it a lot, just reverted vandalism and worked on articles about her books. Thanks for the improvements! That particular user goes too far at times: Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#User:TheClerksWell.27s_inappropriate_.22prank.22. Regarding his edits to other people's comments, it appears that he changed the sense of those comments. That, too, is inappropriate and, indeed, disruptive and scandalous as it makes it appear that editors actually said something they naver actually said. I have deliberately changed one word in your last comment, for example. The change might not be obvious, so you may need to look at the history... Feel free to change it back, of course! That said, the changes we make here are usually either copy-edits (quite acceptable, IMO, as long as you tell the editor that made the post) or tongue-in-cheek edits to the title (usually obvious; often, these also help to clarify that the thread moves away from the original topic). Just today in school I heard my friend joking about vandalizing Wikipedia, and I quote, "Hey, dude, this was so funny. I changed this word to c*** and then I got this orange message thingy that said I had violated this rule and that rule..." and "Hey, you know I once looked up Alcestis (play) and it said (whatever, can't remember) so and so. See WP:CUSTOMSIG :). User:Pmlineditor helped me with mine before I got good at guessing wiki-shortcuts (I guessed WP:SIG which led to...) What I can say is don't make it too flashy/eye-hurting, etc. (but you know this already). Basically, it's just wiki-markup. I was originally going to wait for Jubileeclipman to come back before asking, but then I remembered that you two probably know some music stuff too: Do any of you have any idea what I'm supposed to do for this? So, there's 2 notes, (B and Bb, I believe), and they have stems coming out of them (like in a quarter note), but the stems are slanted and meet each other, forming a "Y" shape. ADD You know what's also really bothering me is that quite a lot of claims of new Warriors books are now currently only confirmed by Victoria Holmes' Facebook. Warriors - I don't know what else to say. That's one of the difficulties of the Internet. Chopin's Ballade - My dad thinks it's a unique way of marking that the notes should be played at the same time. 1. Because of the timing. 2. Because of the inherent difficulty of noting that the natural and flat of a note should be played at the same time. I've added a missing closing tag. I think what the problem was was that you didn't close the orignal "font face" tag with </font>. Kinda like Italicizing the last section of a page; if you don't close it with another 2 apostrophes, it will still be italics, but you won't realise that the italics don't end unless you add text after it. (I hope that made sense (kind of rambly)). Since you signature shouldn't affect the text below it, you needed to close the HTML tag. Frowns etc are created by changing the parameters used in the template markup: eg {{=)|2}} = (oddly). I have heard of the Andalusian cadence, in fact, so I'll check out the article shortly. Not meant that way, obviously: I just shortened your name the way most people shorten mine to Jubilee and ended up calling you Princess! You obviously don't mind, so I'll carry on calling you that, if that's OK?) Regarding the "dust coud": there isn't one. Or rather, you can't actually see it as it is too high up (20,000 feet or something) and too dissipated to be be seen from the ground. The issue is rather with the bits of ice and rock that might go into the engines; apparently some have fallen to the ground already. I'll check that article, also, to see if it correctly reports these issues. References must be ten-a-penny, given the panic and confusion cause already by the thing, so I'll try dig those out too. BTW, I was already travelling by train: the problem was that I never booked a seat and when passengers were transferred to the trains (from the planes) they were given emergency bookings so that all the non-booked train passengers like me were chucked into the aisles and vestibules. Other things: I just looked at Andalusian cadence and can see why it falls short of GA... For a start, it used # for sharp: not good. I have replaced all sharps, flats and naturals with their {{music}} template equivalents (as directed by the present Music Manual of Style). There are several other stylistic problems and a great deal of speculative and POV language (much of which is rather chatty in tone): e.g. I had to replace would've been much more "natural" with would have been much more "natural" (here) but the whole sentence is personal opinion as is stands, anyway, without a reference to back it up.

BTW, the Cat's funny double stemmed notes are indeed to be played together: IIRC, Chopin is mixing G major and G minor at that stage and thus uses both B natural and B flat at the same time in the same chord; an A sharp is not part of a G minor chord, so technically he could not use the enharmonic notation; Chopin being a pedantic stickler for the rules dutifully wrote both flat and natural, therefore, but had to find some way of showing that they are played together rather than one after the other. Polytonal composers have to use the same odd-looking method if they feel it necessary to identify the harmonies that are overlaid one on the other. This particular example from Chopin is yet another showing just how far ahead of his time he often was: witness also the incredible polyrhythms in the final pages of the 4th Ballade (when the lyrical melody's main notes are picked out at the top of a flow of triplet-semiquavers grouped in four over straight semiquavers grouped in six...), the magical "wrong key" ending to the A minor Mazurka in Op. 17 (it ends on an F major chord in first inversion rather than an A minor chord, i.e. A is still in the bass but the chord is "wrong"), and the almost atonal, free-form jazz of the F minor Prelude. Mind you, Beethoven used a kind of proto-Boogie-Woogie in his Eroica and Diabelli variations and wrote something not far from Jazz in the final movement of his final piano sonata (the variation starting with triplets bouncing quickly down a double-octave arpeggio on C major). Not quite sure what to make of the the original comment given that the nominator lives in London, UK and doesn't appear even to be remotely connected to the Foundation. I'll have a look at that soon! I just found the font online here. Both versions seem to be identical and the download was not brilliant (I had to add ".ttf" to the file names before I could use them). Also, since the font usually costs between $10 and $20, I am not sure it is exactly cosher... However, Princess' sig looks great with the font I have installed. BTW, I also found one called "Symphony in ABC" which maskerades as Lucida Calligraphy: here. • Well, I learn tons, no doubt about that. Increase vocabulary, etc. Helps in school, I guess.
• Fun! Work in areas you like (that's what I'm doing) and make sure you have a blast (most of the time).
• Sense of purpose - well, you're helping tons of people, right? For instance, MacBook Pro is viewed over 2000 times a day. You also learn in the process how to become a better writer and hopefully, a better person who can interact and collaborate with ease amongst others.

I think it makes it more interesting when some people see a sig one way and others another way. OTOH, it does make your sig longer (by this much: <font face="Lucida Calligraphy"></font>) which might annoy people that don't see the effect... Then again, your sig isn't as long as some that are seen the same way by everyone. Basically, your call as the aviator says. I like the font, though.

Regarding "why do y'all contribute to WP?"... Are you really ready for the long answer??? Bulleted summary:

1. Sharing: I want to share and get feedback on my (limited) knowledge of the world, its people, and their achievements (especially, but not exclusively, in the field of music): WP is a great place to do that, IMO
2. Purpose: I want to help build an accurate all-embracing encyclopedia
3. Interaction: I enjoy the social interaction and collaboration that WP encourages, even if it is somewhat impersonal in that most of us will never meet and rarely know even the real names of other editors, let alone age, RL experience, personal circumstances etc etc.
   • The impersonal nature is an advantage, perhaps, in that none of those things are important, IMO: a child of twelve might have insight into a complex piece of music after reading a school text book, insight that a university professor might never have had from all of her studies, lectures and dissertations; everyone's contributions are valued here at WP
4. Lifelong learning: I have learnt so many unexpected things working on WP which go way beyond the bare information contained in articles and discussions. Listing them here would make this already huge thread twice as long, probably...

Airplaneman's been spreading the pretty hearts around . Very appreciated. The font thing is fine. Now... why I edit:

1. Educating Others: Adding to the world's knowledge feels like a worthwhile mission; many people read Wikipedia (myself included, although I do more editing and less reading now), and it's good to have accurate information to work with, no matter how much teachers do not want people to use it as a reference in their bibliography (I just use the references on the Wikipedia page as my reference).
2. Fun: It is, for some reason I still am not entirely sure of, very fun to edit. I feel immense satisfaction every time I warn a vandal, report one, and when I can increase the quality rating on a page.
3. Educating Self: I learn while editing when I stumble across interesting pages; I also theoretically learn important life skills such as conflict resolution, cooperation, backing up my arguments and statements with valid sources, and how to use a formal tone (good for writing business letters and resumes when I am older).
4. Defending the Warriors pages: I myself had been misled several times by false claims of a Warriors movie on this page; I now take immense pride in making sure all Warriors info is correct (even if it is OR).
5. Addiction: Nothing more needs to be said here.
6. A sense of purpose: I have goals I can easily reach in short terms on Wikipedia (the raising of artciles to GA, FA), and some longer term ones (becoming a high profile editor, etc.), that are much more easily accomplish-able than many RL goals
7. I feel welcomed: When I first started, no one came to me and said "hey, kid, we don't need you." (Ok, almost no one said anything to me in the beginning anyways; I had to go looking for you people.)

When I first started, I edited Pink Floyd... badly... and got told off for messing up an FA... I simply rebooted my self and edited Fearne Cotton and Holly Willoughby instead... this time getting serious praise from some important Wikipedians. That encouraged me, though I was unable to edit for several months and only restarted late last year. I was elected the coordinator for WP:CTM on the strengh of my edits to various contemporary music articles and my (perceived) ability to be impartial and see the bigger picture. That made me one of the "big boys", perhaps, even though I was still only a newbie really! Back to the original point of this section, I was thinking about reviving WP:MTHEORY. Here are my ideas:

• Create an invite template. ( ex.Template:PJinvite)
• Choose an article of the month, possibly for May, since April's half through. I would go for improving Andalusian cadence to GA, but that's just me.
• Add to the red-linked cleanup list. I'm sure I could pick out a few of the stubs I've assessed that need work.
• There is an empty section for guidelines. Perhaps we could start a section on the talk page for suggestions.
• Submit an entry at the WikiProject desk with a news blurb about reviving this project.

Excellent ideas! I like the idea of the welcome template, especially. I was thinking of one for WP:CTM: any ideas? Article of the month is a tried and tested method of both sorting articles and getting editors interested in projects (and recruiting new members, therefore). Cleanup: ditto. Signpost: yeah... I keep forgetting about them. They were going to review WP:COMPOSERS recently (I was interviewed and give my answers, in fact) but it came in the wake of the dreaded infobox RfC (now closed, BTW, aviator: see the closing remarks). Regarding the guidelines, though: both WP:MUSTARD and WP:MOSMUSIC contain a lot of blurb about music theory and notation. I am actually in the procees of trying to rationalise all the Music guidelines and streamline them: see here. Not much participation yet, but it is still early days (and the big players such as SlimVirgin, DCGeist and Tony1 are all caught up working on the other guidelines, at the moment, so I haven't pushed them into helping me out yet). IMO, less is more: a specific guideline page for music theory (whether in Project space or Wikipedia space) might not be necessary, therefore, if the main guidelines already deal with the issues. This is not just my view: the other auditors (including those big names) all agree with that idea in principle, though exceptions are recognised. Thanks for giving this some thought though: between us we really will have a great project (or three) if we pull together. BTW, regarding meeting: I have met one Wikipedian (GuillaumeTell) and it was a positive experience; however, I remain convinced that such meetings should remain rare occurances due to the fact that WP is about online cooperation on an encyclopedia not RL meetings (the summits etc are different in that they are usually about the software itself and the Foundation, things that might need face to face meetings) --Jubilee♫clipman 18:17, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

Welcome and invite templates. I actually meant the latter but wrote the other, fortuitously. Let's just get some ideas floating around before we actually create anything. I can call on editors like Quiddity and Moxy to help create the templates. Moxy designs Portals and does a fantastic job: there's another possibility. Regarding adoption: expect to wait for ever even to get one person... I was actually asked by one newbie, recently, if I adopted after I had suggested adoption to them: maybe that's a way in? (That editor was actually only here to cause trouble, BTW, and got blocked after about 4 days, as I suspected would happen given the trouble they had already caused. Knock yourself out... basically not a lot happens: you only get redirected to the redirect page and that's it. Probably a fail safe. Double redirects (page a → page b → page c) do redirect you through page b to c straight away but here you go from a to b and stop without being sent back to a. However, if you click the redirect link... well have a go and see if you can figure it out. What doesn't happen is for you to end up in an infinate redirect loop. As I say, probably a fail safe. I swear that I didn't have any of my favorite talk page stalkers in mind when I wrote that. But I am a tad obsessive about not making mistakes, especially grammar/spelling ones, so that was a big deal for me. Besides, it helps when doing complicated edits, as you can check and see if you got it right without embarrassing yourself. I'm also very bad at learning things by reading about them (weird, since I love reading) and do better with a hands-on demonstration or messing with it myself. Examples are good! You should honestly click through my history sometime: there are some howlers in there! I ended up underlining the text on an entire page once and have placed pages into the most inappropriate categories by forgetting the first colon (i.e. [[:category:foo]] not [[category:foo]]) as well as transluded entire pages into other pages by using {{ }} rather than [[ ]].... Misspelling words is my usual thing though: "neural" instead of "neutral", for example... Oh and forgetting to sign. Learning by doing is my thing too, actually, though I also learn a lot from interaction with others. Going back to the communication thing: yes, it can be hard to gauge whether people are being serious, ironic or just jesting. That's why I like smileys—though they can add to the confusion, admittedly. I really do think that "Help" page is awful, BTW, but maybe that's just me. I left a note on its talkpage, so we'll see. Then again, the most likely people to reply are those that frequent the page and they are likely to find the page helpful... not sure my post is going to achieve much now I think about it. Oh well. Anyway it really does seem as if you have cracked how to help your adoptee. Don't hesistate to ask, though, if you get stuck! I think that's one advantage you have over other adopters: you have a team of dwarves to help out! Well, I only used Martin a few times and then threw myself in and got BOLD. You'll probably find that newbies quite frequently make occasional use of their adoptors and then disappear for a while. Eek... I just had to take the Aviator's advice and walk away... getting a little heated for my liking in certain corners of WP. Anyway, just to let you all know, I'll be on Wikibreak of indeterminate length from Friday unless I can find a way to connect to the net from my mother's cottage in the middle of the North York Moors. I'm moving there to get things in order before I move up to live with my dad in Scotland to be his carer. He also has no internet at present so I'll have to set up a connection. @Brambleclawx — If you're referring to this section, I honestly think it would do better to put the details in the list of characters and just provide a list of positions and possibly a brief, one-sentence description so that they can be condensed into, say, a paragraph or two. It's just my take on it. On a side note, critical reception goes positive first, negative second.

Well, I copied mine from User:Airplaneman, so he takes credit for everything but the colors. You can create your own page, something like User:Hereforhomework2/Welcome and copy over all of the formatting and then change it however you like, with colors and your name. Then, when you want to welcome someone, use [[subst:User:Hereforhomework/Welcome]] and that will post your welcome template! (You can see a list of colors here.) Does that fully answer your question? Taking info from "real life" sources

Okay, that's a really good question! You may have noticed that a lot of the sources used here are online. That's mostly because those are readily available. Offline sources can be very helpful to an article. Please read through Wikipedia's guideline for reliable sources, which applies to both online and off. Also, there is a useful essay about offline sources here. If they are reliable, you can use books, newspaper, etc. It could be something you own, or something available from a public library. Just make sure to properly list all of the information: title, author, publisher, etc. See here for more information about that. Does that fully answer your question?
