About awarding barnstars

I am an auto confirmed user and have almost 1000 edits but feeling shy to say that I am almost zero in the knowledge of awarding barnstars. Can anyone describe me why,how a barnstar is awarded and who can award it?--pratyya (talk) 06:30, 5 December 2012 (UTC)

I will try to summarize:
 1. A barnstar is given "to reward Wikipedia contributors for hard work and due diligence" (according to WP:Barnstar)
 2. Go to a user's user page or talk page and click the red "heart" button at the top for a list of barnstars and other awards.
 3. Anyone can award them.
If you feel that someone has done well in a particular area (editing, vandalism, photos, citations/references, etc.), don't be afraid to give them one! The Anonymouse (talk • contribs) 06:39, 5 December 2012 (UTC)

Articles for Creation

Hi Pratyya Ghosh, thanks for taking time to help at Articles for Creation. Volunteers are always most welcome. I would just like to point out a few problems with some of the articles you've accepted. Generally their subjects do not meet WP:GNG notability guidelines. I've come across two of them, Aaron Bare and Professor Don Mason. Aaron Bare seems only to be briefly mentioned in a couple of news articles - we need to see 'significant' coverage. Professor Mason's article is sourced to writings by Professor Mason (which obviously aren't independent of him). We don't normally include titles, such as 'Professor', in article titles.

I realise there's a lot to think about when reviewing an article, so understand mistakes are sometimes made. But notability is a very fundamental requirement for Wikipedia, so I hope you'll bear this in mind next time. All the best! Sionk (talk) 13:05, 5 December 2012 (UTC)

"Colorful" signatures

Appreciate your asking! :) So here's the scoop: First, you can make changes to your sig under your "preferences" (its on the top right hand corner). Second, pretty much all signatures should have a link to your user and talk page. The plain signature in wiki markup looks like this for your sig: Pratyya Ghosh (talk) Which results in this: Pratyya Ghosh (talk) So, you should work from the above code when making changes to your signature. For font color and type, you can use HTML. Here's the code for your sig in Times News Roman and in red: <font color="red" face="Times New Roman">Pratyya Ghosh (talk</font>) Which results in this: Pratyya Ghosh (talk) Hopefully that above code will make it easy for you to start customizing. There are lots of other things you can do, like bold or italicize your signature. To find more of these modifications, you can check out The valid HTML tags on Wikipedia. You also don't need to stick to HTML-- you can use wiki markup like using insert word here to italicize it. However, be sure that your signature is not overly flashy and that it does not disrupt the formatting of discussions. Have fun!

I have recently reviewed both Shane Watson and Australia national cricket team, both of which you nominated for Good article status. Both articles, while useful and informative, were well short of the Good article criteria. File permission problem with File:Norton logo.png

Thanks for uploading File:Norton logo.png, which you've sourced to (logo). I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

 • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
 • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add OTRS pending to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as non-free fair use or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 00:17, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

Merry Christmas, Pratyya Ghosh

From Mrt3366: I don't know what is that we are trying to achieve. I don't know where we, as a species, are headed. But I know this that if all of us — including you and me — were just like Jesus the Christ with the same amount of charismatic humility and unpretentious altruism, we would not be having much of the problems we face today. In an era where vast nuclear armament is going on, where number of murderers and rapists is ever-increasing, where glaring jingoism makes it hard to hope for any vestiges of peace in the near future, forgiveness coupled with humility and selflessness might prove to be the ultimate blessing from God. So let's take a moment to celebrate the nativity of Jesus and try to be as forgiving as he was. Cheers,

Spread the cheer by adding to their talk page with a friendly message. Merry Christmas, Mr T(Talk?) (New thread?) 07:49, 23 December 2012 (UTC)

The article List of One Day International cricket matches played by Bangladesh and Hong Kong has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Only one match, not exactly a list. Fails inclusion for WP:LIST.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Howzat?Out!Out!Out! Hello!

Yes I'm back from time to time, updating stats and creating the occasional new article. Per WP:LIST a list must contain more than one thing. There's a couple of suggestions for those two articles. The Bangladesh v Hong Kong match could be redirected to the Group A section of the 2004 Asia Cup. With the Bangladesh v the UAE fixture this too could be redirected to the same section of the 2008 tournament. Alternatively, perhaps an article called List of Bangladesh One Day Internationals v Associate members of the ICC (or something like that)! Hope all is well. Howzat?Out!Out!Out! Hi Pratyya

I saw that you did not accept the article on Dean Linda Fried. Can you please explain why you don't think she is appropriate for Wikipedia? There are a number of Wikipedia articles about deans of schools (including public health ones.) Linda has also established herself as an expert in the field of aging - one who has provided seminal work in this area.

Any guidance you could give would be helpful.

You see the article yourself. In the reference section after 11 no. it is not written writely. Again there's no infobox. See the Wikipedia:Your first article page or a living person's page. That will help you to write good article. Remember do not put any incomplete work in wikipedia. After my instruction you can again edit you page for Dean Linda Fried and improve that article.Cheers and happy editing.--Pratyya (have a chat?) 03:30, 27 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi, I fixed the issue with the references appearing twice. I'm not sure what you mean by an "infobox". I don't see that listed on the "Your First Article" page. I though the rest of the article aligned with the Wikipedia guidelines. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Maria at Columbia Public Health (talkcontribs) 02:50, 29 December 2012 (UTC)

Article - Thomas Lynskey

Hello- it says you declined the article "Thomas Lynskey", and it said something about fictional characters, while this isn't concerning the subject matter. The article is about a real person, who many believe to be notable. Can you please take that into consideration and reevaluate the page? If it's still not up to standards, what can I do to improve it? Sorry.. I'm new to wikipedia... and not the best with using the internet.

Karin Magnussen

Regarding decline of my page on "Karin Magnussen," I would appreciate at last an explanation. I could not find much wrong with it. Thanking you for your prompt attention,Valleyspring (talk) 05:59, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

Okay thanks for your edit at my talk page. You want an explanation why I declined your article Karin Magnussen. See from the first. T first there's no infobox. But that's no matter. You can create that when you're free. Then you don't need to put contents. As you did like this -Table of contents 1 Life 2 National Socialist 3 Employment at the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute 4 Involvement in concentration camp crimes 5 After the war 6 Literature 7 Web links 8 References

It comes automatically when you make sections in an article.Oh there's no section. You need to put section's in an article. The biggest thing is that there's no reference. Again you put Literature section under the reference section. Generally External Link section can be put under the reference section. This is not any rule. But that looks good when you don't put any section exept External links under the reference section. At last see you wrote Do I have to request review for every new article I make?!!!! this kind of writing. Remember you only don't watch your crated article. People from all over the world who do not edit wikipedia also watch this. So it looks bad to them as they don't know or edit. You can ask your question like this to any user (as you asked me) or at the WP:HD. That is the standard work in wikipedia. In last I am giving you some suggestions. If it was your first article or if not you must read this before creating any article. Or before you crating something see in wikipedia whether you can see similar kind of article. And don't mind. You can still edit or improve your article. For your help I've reverted some mistakes. Now edit the others for gaining your experience in editing wikipedia. Cheers and happy editing.--Pratyya (have a chat?) 07:02, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

Thanks. I've changed it the best I could for now. If you don't accept the page , or want me to change it further, it's OK. But then could you make a redirect to "Deutsche wiki, Karin Magnussen." I translated it from German using a dictionary and Google translation, because I thought it was an important subject.!!Valleyspring (talk) 07:32, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

I've changed your article one more time. Now I need you to know reference should link another website.I've put one reference watch that and understand them. Now you improve your article and I'll save that article from being declined again. If you want to know feel free to ask. And to say use google to know more information about Karin Magnussen.Good luck.--Pratyya (have a chat?) 08:39, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

I've tried again, but the references are messed up. It should say [1] for the first time a reference is sourced, and then it should say [1] again, when it is sourced. Instead wikipedia gives it a new number. I don't know how to fix that. I have 14 different sources cited for reference. Thank you. I'm also not sure if you want "de.wikipedia.org" to be used as a source. That would make it 15 sources.Valleyspring (talk) 09:47, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

i've said to you before that a reference should be a link. That could be other website or It can be Wikipedia too. You see at the reference I've put."Karin Magnussen". It links you to the website of Estherlederberg. But your references do not link anything. I believe you've understood. Or if you do not then feel free to ask again. I do not care how many times do you ask. Because I believe there's no ending for knowing. But at last I've to say one thing. You've improved. Cheers.--Pratyya (have a chat?) 09:59, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

Thanks. I have clarified the translation. The references do not LINK because they are references to books. Should they then be placed under "Literature?" rather than REFERENCE? Do not forget, that I have transposed this from Deutsche.wikipedia.org, which has them all placed under links with an ARROW. Sorry for the inconvenience. Good day.Valleyspring (talk) 10:27, 28 December 2012 (UTC) User:Valleyspring|Valleyspring]] (talk) 10:19, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

At first I'll say do not say sorry. I said previously that I'm here for anytime for help. No the references should be goes under reference. But make bold the book name. Like this Wikipedia. Watch this if you can't bold.Cheers.--Pratyya (have a chat?) 10:32, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

our formatting convention is to place book titles is italics, not bold. DGG ( talk ) 05:10, 30 December 2012 (UTC)

CVU

Hey Pratyya! You notified me at 10:13 UTC that you have already answered and resolved your tasks. I don't see your answers. Mediran (tc) 10:33, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

I'm sorry I forgot to reload CVUA page at 10:11 (UTC). I notified you after 5 minutes I answered the last question.--Pratyya (have a chat?) 10:39, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

We are talking about the same thing right? The question I'm concerned about is at this section. Thanks! Mediran (tc) 10:43, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

If a user believes an edit of their which you reverted was not vandalism, and questioned you about it, what should you do? I've said about this question's answer.--Pratyya (have a chat?) 10:45, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

Ahhh... I see. But there is a bunch of tasks that is needed to be filled. Come on now and answer those questions. Again, thank you for your participation at CVU. Mediran (tc) 10:48, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
Your next task is ready! Mediran (tc) 12:11, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

I declined one request you have made for deletion via CSD. Please nominate pages that meets either of the CSD criteria and please add the link of the diff of your tagging and not the current revision. Thanks. Mediran (tc) 13:03, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

Stale AfC reviews

Pratyya,

I've just been doing some AfC housekeeping and saw that you had quite a few submissions marked as "under review". I've re-queued any that you marked before 25th December because they appeared to be stale. Please check what you still have marked under review and either complete the review, or re-queue them. afc

You declined a few days ago Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Printing Processes as a plot summary. Perhaps you accidentally chose the wrong code. The way to deal with this is to revert your review & re-review it appropriately. DGG ( talk ) 05:07, 30 December 2012 (UTC)

Maggie Jones - Journalist

Hi Pratyya I see that my article--Maggie Jones-Journalist--hasn't been approved. You left the comment, "not too good." How can I improve it so that it can be accepted? Thanks Artleslie — Preceding unsigned comment added by Artleslie (talkcontribs) 13:44, 30 December 2012 (UTC)

Your Articles for Creation reviews

Please do not ever again decline Articles for Creation submissions with rationales like "not too good" or "bad writing style", or for spurious reasons like the article not having an infobox. If you are going to review AfC submissions, you need to do it properly, you need to explain in your rationale what the article lacks, and you need to answer queries from article submitters in a clear and constructive manner. For one example, describing an article submission as "not written writely" is not a helpful explanation. If you continue to act in this manner then I will request that you be formally banned from reviewing AfC submissions on the English Wikipedia. You may wish to participate in other aspects of the English Wikipedia instead, or you may wish to edit in the Bengali Wikipedia if you find that easier. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 20:50, 30 December 2012 (UTC)

 • Pratyya, I am concerned with your recent approval of the Karin Magnussen article and assessment as B-Class. While I initially reassessed this article as a Start-Class due to extensive cleanup and sourcing issues that require addressing, during cleanup, it became clear that this article is a blatant copyright violation of this website. While I agree with Demiurge1000, we also cannot approve articles without meeting the minimum criteria for inclusion. Copyright violations don't even come close. If you are going to continue reviewing Afc submissions, please make sure to check every single article for copyright violations and the presence of reliable sources. Additionally, it is very important for you to spend some time reviewing the various assessment levels and grading schemes. You can find some helpful guidance for assessing articles at this link. I had to explain to them: That is MY Webpage!!!! I had translated the material and crossposted. Sorry for the confusion. I have now removed "Karin Magnussen," from that page, leaving only the first sentence.172.14.56.129 (talk) 04:58, 31 December 2012 (UTC) Have a Happy New YearValleyspring (talk) 04:52, 31 December 2012 (UTC)
