Request reason:

I found physical sources on an apparently controversial topic (Tony’s Beach) and an admin whom I was asking article creation advice from blocked this account and two others who were collaborating with me on this matter. I’m not completely versed in this, but from what the admin says, our IP was used to vandalize a similar topic. However, we have no knowledge of what User:Drmies calls a “Tony’s Beach Enthusiast” and are not sock puppets of that apparently troublesome user, as he claims. We do sometimes use a VPN, maybe that has to do with it? Nonetheless, we were only discussing the notability and sources of that topic and would like to be unblocked as a result of this misconception. A record of the collaboration between my colleagues and I as well as the admin’s rather harsh and informal response can be found on User:AlleghenyPA’s talk page. Decline reason:

Confirmed sockpuppetry. This is not due to VPN use. I'll go block your other accounts, too. Yamla (talk) 20:41, 27 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Misconceptions edit

@Yamla: How can you confirm sock-puppetry when I don’t know what other accounts you think I have? I have done nothing wrong. All I was doing was discussing a Wikipedia-related topic. Best, Powerplay44 (talk) 22:24, 27 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

See Category:Wikipedia sockpuppets of Tony Beach Enthusiast. --Yamla (talk) 22:29, 27 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Yamla: I appreciate your quick response. I am only trying to figure out what’s going on. What is this list based on? I only recognize User:AlleghenyPA as I frequently work with him on Wikipedia. If it is IP, then it is possible that it is flawed due to a wide and rather public IP area where I reside. Powerplay44 (talk) 22:38, 27 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
This is based in part on WP:CHECKUSER data and in part on overlap in edits. I want to be very clear, this is not just a "wide and rather public IP area" and is not a coincidence. This is some of the clearest technical data I've ever seen in sockpuppet investigations. --Yamla (talk) 22:42, 27 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yamla, thank you for confirming what I also saw. Drmies (talk) 00:08, 28 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Yamla: and @Drmies: If that’s how you feel, I’d like to say that I at least appreciate your attempt at keeping everything in line. I’m sorry you couldn’t help someone who is clearly being wronged.Powerplay44 (talk) 01:31, 28 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
We're "feeling" things based on fact. You tried to game the system by using five different accounts, as well as by editing without logging in. You're not being wronged. Drmies (talk) 14:41, 28 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Drmies: It seems that you’re not grasping the fact that WP:CheckUser should not be used as a be all end all, per WP:PIXIEDUST, especially when you can not be completely sure about large IP ranges that can affect innocent people like me. A large part of CheckUser is analyzing an editing pattern, and I was challenging and skeptical of User:AlleghenyPA’s sources in the discussion on his talk page, not supporting. It seems that I am a victim of WP:COLLATERAL. I have only ever used this account and I don’t recall editing without logging in. I am wrongly caught in the middle of something else!
