Meet in Chennai this week?

edit

PlaneMad, You said: Hi Marcus. Looks like you're making quite a hectic tour around south India. Am quite busy with college and exams during Nov-Dec. Tell me when you plan to come to Chennai, hopefully should be free -- PlaneMad|YakYak 19:19, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

I am now in Chennai for this full week and would enjoy meeting you for coffee and a chat. I am staying at the New Woodlands Hotel rm#1338 and am available most evenings and sometimes in the day, always early morning.

Let me know if you're available and we can set up a time/place at your convenience. I recently was fortunate to meet Shyamal, Sundar, and Nicholas (Nichalp) and plan to meet Bhadani later. Its good to put a face to all these helpfull names that I encounter while editing South India Protected areas subjects. We had some good conversations.

Regards, Marcus Sherman

Hi Planemad. Do you have the time to draw a map for me. It is not a territorial map that I normally request of you, rather a map showing places and place names (from a reliable source ofcourse) where Western Chalukya architecture flourished. All that is needed is a map of Karnataka (or India) showing those locations in central Karnataka where the art flourished.Dineshkannambadi (talk) 02:59, 26 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

1. As it is well-known and commonly agreed, regions in India like Marwar, Braj, Awadh etc. are not distinctly defined. I saw an interesting map of the Marwari language which shows some areas in Dark Green and some in light green. You have made maps of Bundelkhand, Baghelkhand, Awadh etc. I suggest that they can be:

a.) Shown with regional focus and not national focus as currently. The district boundaries are not clear.
b.) Shown on lines as above, i.e. districts surely lying in that region in dark colour and unsure areas/districts in light colour or anything similar to this.

2. I want to download and use your locator map. Could you please tell me how to program them. Maquahuitltalk! 14:34, 3 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Permission to reprint kashmir_map.svg

edit

Hi Planemad

Your maps look great and there is one in particular I wonder if you would be able to give permission for use of your kashmir_map.svg in an academic book to be published in the UK on a study of the lingusistics of an immigrant community in Northern England. The map would be used to illustrate the geographical origins of some of the languages being written about in the book.

If you were able to give permission for use of the map it would be great and a big help to us. Alternatively if you were willing to let us have the use of the source file (eps, cdr or whatever) in a vector format that we could adapt or use as a basis, that would be perfect.

We could of course put a copyright/authorship acknowledgement with the map.

I look forward to hearing from you, preferably by email to wordworks@gairloch.co.uk

Thank you

Need help for Template:Location map Tripura

edit

Hi,
You have made many location maps for Wikiepdia and so I need your help for creating one. I made map Image:Tripura locator map blank.svg.png and decided to use it as a Template:location map using Template:Location map Tripura. I tried to find the best co-ordinates based on google maps but still fail by large margin to get the exact co-ords. Whats the best way to go for this? The map is to the scale and I do have the svg version with me. (Whenever I upload the svg version something goes wrong with it so sticking with png). I have gone through the documentation for creating a location map but didn't help to find out co-ords. I am looking to use this map just like Template:Location map Mumbai --gppande «talk» 10:16, 6 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading Image:Air India Express liveries.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

I'm going to have to re-do that image. The colors are all wrong (I did that animation on the agriculture map.) And I'm pretty sure i have an arrear coming my way.It was that stupid electron devices paper. - Amog |Talk 14:05, 25 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
I played around with that image again. It ended up pretty big..almost 13 MB.And wow,it took about five uploads to get it right...does it look FP material? :) - Amog |Talk 18:05, 26 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Proposition for common map conventions

edit

Hello Planemad.
We had on the French-speaking Graphic lab a discussion about the creation of a colorimetric convention for geopolitical and topographic maps for a common use in the Wikimedia project.
Now we make this proposition on Commons talk:Project Mapmaking Wiki Standards in order to reach more people and I invite you to take a look at that page and participate so we can harmonize the aspect of our maps, have common conventions and ease their creation.
Note also that I initiated on the same page a discussion about the choice for a recommended projection to be used for world maps.
Thanks for your participation. Sting-fr (talk) 12:06, 24 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

I am planning to create a list of pending neighbourhoods and suburbs and get these created in a consistent manner. Is it possible to get Chennai bloggers and photo walk people to join in this effort and provide pictures and content for these articles. We can model the project on other city projects like New York and Adelaide. We can get the street maps from OpenStreetMaps. I had already added one on Anna Salai. What do ya think? Thanks a lot. That was pretty quick. I was going to make a request for zooming the map, but it does not look possible. However, this zooming might be possible for the locator map of Manipur, where the state area occupies a minor (<20%) portion of the whole rectangle that shows all the states of Northeast. Maps

edit

I could not figure out the difference. Looked hard at Malakangiri, but don't have any source to compare it. I've update the CG state map. I'll tell you what, I'll unprotect the template page for the day so that you can test the Orissa maps. Once done, let any of us know, and we'll protect it again. How does this sound? =Nichalp «Talk»= 18:55, 6 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

All yours! I think the issue might be with the source. Google Earth uses WGS84, while a printed map may use GNIS. Not sure though if this is the cause. You might want to see Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Geographical coordinates#Source parameter query.
PS, on an unrelated note, you might want to check out: commons:User:Nichalp/Upload script. =Nichalp «Talk»= 19:08, 6 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks... but six more states are waiting patiently for a district map whenever you decide to return. :) I've restored the protection level to the template. =Nichalp «Talk»= 14:19, 7 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
