The template would be used to support the Chicago Project categorization scheme which is yet to be fully understood and documented ( see draft version at categorization scheme. Pknkly (talk) 23:34, 23 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

The template incorporates some of the guidelines established within wp:categorization. Pknkly (talk) 23:34, 23 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

The template Template:Tracking category was used as the model for this template.Pknkly (talk) 23:34, 23 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

The template is meant to:

(1) It informs readers that the category is a list category. Pknkly (talk) 23:34, 23 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
(2) Gives instructions on how to place items into the category list. Pknkly (talk) 23:34, 23 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
(3) Explains the types of articles that are to be placed into the list .Pknkly (talk)
(4) Further explains the types of articles to place into it by giving information or examples of what not to include within the list. Pknkly (talk) 23:34, 23 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

In response to your question on my talk, my comment in the history of {{tracking category}} was directed at the old code of the template, which was ugly and obfuscated to the point of being totally unusable. The actual template itself serves a useful purpose, so no, I do not question its usefulness in its current state. Happymelon 07:38, 24 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
