Karl Francis

edit

Hi FruitMonkey.

Thank you for your edits on the Karl Francis page.

I would like to know why you have removed the rest of the quote from the linked article on the page I added yesterday? (...plus a whole paragraph of a cut and paste job from an external site.)

I presume you have posted the original content that only partially quotes "In 1995 he was appointed the Head of Drama at BBC Wales,[5] a role he held until 1997 and which the British Film Institute's Screenonline website described as "an unsatisfactory two years"

I meerly added the rest of the quote from the article giving a full picture rather than just "an unsatisfactory two years" which is not very fair. Don't you agree? I thought this was supposed to be 'unbiased' information here like the BBC (laughs to myself!).

Partially quoting any comment can give entirely the wrong picture and even the opposite meaning to its original intention. This is unacceptable editing in my own and Karl Francis' opinion too.

Please can you not remove this complete quote again. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pixlmixer (talkcontribs) 10:49, 12 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Unfortunately your changes are not allowed in Wikipedia. A cut and paste from someone elses website is against copyright laws. The whole piece is not a quote (unless Mr Francis speaks in the third person) and therefore can not be lifted. If you check the history of the article you will see that I have worked to create a neutral and researched page. The quote that you expanded was not added by myself, but I will recheck it to ensure that we can expand the meaning of his words without using the text from a third party site. Having looked at it again, the quote is definately taken out of context. I am neither happy with the quote on the screenonline site as it is also vague, not explaing what Francis found unsatisfactory (administration, funding, output?). I have therefore removed the quote. If memory serves me correctly David Berry's History of Welsh cinema has a large section on Karl Francis. I will pop to the library this week and try to find a more credible source.
