Citation for your edit to View from the Window at Le Gras?

edit

In [1], you changed the year of the photograph, and the edit summary says "The first photography is known from decades by specialists to be from 1827". That's fine, and thank you for the new information. Please add a citation in the page to a source written by one of those specialists, giving this date, so that all the readers and editors who aren't specialists can find out more.

You also edited List of photographs considered the most important here to change this date. Among the three references cited there for this photograph, Time says "circa 1826", DigitalJournalist.org says "in the summer of 1827", and the Oxford companion book says "1827 probably in the summer". Is there some better source for why anyone thinks it was either in 1926 or 1927? Two of the three sources indicate doubt about when the photograph was created. What source convinced you it was "known for decades"? Educate us!

Hello, and all my apologise if I haven’t written more on the subject : I’m not fluent in english so I thought someone else on Wikipedia will have dig the question. They are more able to write correctly than me...
My source is my knowledge (I mean, articles and books I’ve read years ago), the french Wikipedia article on View from the Window at Le Gras [fr], and mostly, as sourced on it, Helmut Gernsheim, the specialist who initially owned and dated the picture from 1826, and who validate the year 1827 after new research.
Most of the non-specialized magasines and other publications were mentionning for decades - and are still mentionning - the 1826 year even after it was known by specialists that this date is not correct.
Perhaps it's because the two dates were mentionned for years, considering it could stay a doubt.
I don’t know why (I think the model is not working and It's only a question of time to re-use the datas and put them in the right en.wikipedia format) but I had not found how to copy the sources of the View from the Window at Le Gras [fr] article, but here is the text of these sources :
- Kaja Silverman, The Miracle of Analogy : Or The History of Photography, vol. 1, Stanford University Press, 2015 (ISBN 978-0-8047-9327-8 et 978-0-8047-9399-5), p. 60–65.

Hello again and sorry again for my awkward changes.
I've just checked few recent books and 1827 is mentioned p.14, in the chapter written by Paul-Louis Roubert and François Brunet on the specialized reference book “L'art De La Photographie - Des Origines À Nos Jours”, directed by André Gunthert and Michel Poivert, published by Citadelles et Mazenod publisher, ISBN 9782850886805
I have also found this :
- French: « La première photographie au monde », Études photographiques, no 3 « Frontières de l'image / Le territoire et le document »,‎ novembre 1997, where it is mentionned “(fig. 1. Nicéphore Niépce, "Point de vue du Gras", 1827, héliographie sur étain, 16,6 x 20,2 cm, encadrée). [p. 12].
- and also French: Gernsheim reviendra en 1982 sur cette datation, et admettra la date de 1827, proposée en 1967 par P.-G. Harmant et P. Marillier, " Some Thoughts on the World's First Photograph ", The Photographic Journal, vol. 107 (4), avril 1967, p. 130-140 (paru en français en 1972 sous le titre : " À propos de la plus ancienne photographie du monde ", op. cit.) ; cf. H. Gernsheim, The origins of Photography, Londres, New York, Thames and Hudson, 1982, p. 34., wich means “in 1982, Gernsheim goes back on his dating, and validate the date of 1827, proposed by P.-G. Harmant et P. Marillier in 1967”.
I hope it will helps.

Le château d'eau, pôle photographique de Toulouse

edit

Thank you for starting the article on Le château d'eau, pôle photographique de Toulouse. I have added considerably to it from the French article and from other sources translated from French. I have difficulty in finding a list of the exhibitions held there, but feel it is important to add such a section, especially given the early establishment of the gallery, to give an idea of those photographers considered outstanding in France from 1974 onward and how the scene evolved. Are you able to assist? Much appreciated, Jamesmcardle(talk) 02:36, 9 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
