Question About Deleted Page

Ok, I'm new here, and I'm just learning this thing, and trying to understand what this Wiki-Freedom thing is all about. I created a page for my band Far From Close and you deleted it. I didn't mean it as "blatant advertising" . . . I meant it as a starting point to record it and archive it for posterity, and fans of the band . . . I understand now I can't start a page about myself (this seems to be correct from reading through the Wiki rules).

Many of our fans have expressed interest in seeing a Far From Close Wiki page . . . if a fan of the band wants to set up the page on their own, will it be deleted? a LOT of other bands have Wiki pages set up already by fans . . . this is all I was trying to accomplish, and didn't mean it as spam etc.

Also, can you email me the content of the page that you deleted . . . I spent some time on it and would like to retrieve the code . . . Thanks. here's the deletion info: [1]Farfromclose

Ok, I've sent the email. Addhoc 15:20, 17 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

User Account Creation Questions

Hello Addhoc, I am a (currently) anonymous user that was thinking of creating an account, but I have a few questions…

1. Will edits I that I have made previously to creating an account be counted as sock puppetry?
2. Is a username that specifies that I am a fan of a fictional character, an acceptable one?

Thank you,
143.43.8.48 23:05, 17 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi there,
  1. No, that wouldn't be a problem.
  2. Yes, should be ok.

SQL Return Codes

Thanks very much for removing the speedy delete tag. I think it is important we have these codes, as they are favorite interview questions for IT people, and many people writing SQL refer to them all the time. I have also added some context, as you mentioned. I will try to improve this. I'm sure other people will too. These articles have to start somewhere. Also, an encyclopedia should contain technical subjects too, and not just personal histories. Wallie 16:52, 18 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

URGENT UPDATE:

Hi Addhoc. Can you help me. The person who put up the speedy delete tag which you later removed, as the context was there, has moved the article to wikibook. He earlier put up a stronger deletion message, even after I had strengthened the article further. Moving the article to wikibook seems like a cunning method of doing an instant delete to me. Obviously it is out of the way, and can be easily removed from wikibook. I cannot understand why he is doing this, but it is very disruptive. Wallie 23:38, 18 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

No problem, RHaworth has also nominated the article for AfD, so the article and link to the nomination should remain until the AfD is closed. Addhoc 23:45, 18 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
At the time you wrote the above Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/SQL Return Codes was clearly tagged {{db-author}} and it had never been added to the AfD. Does not that look like a withdrawn nomination to you? My apologies, I was not logged in when I did this edit, but it was I. Do you really think that the article belongs here rather than on Wikibooks? -- RHaworth 04:12, 19 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
So what happens now? You have been reverted. Can anyone just shunt articles off to wikibooks? It seems that RHaworth is using wikibooks as a personal trash can to despose of articles he doesn't like. I have repeatedly tried to reason with him, but he just seems to do whatever he wants. Wallie 16:31, 19 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
I've unblanked the article - I would suggest you follow the advice of the wikibooks template which says "if this page can be rewritten into an encyclopedic article, please do so". Addhoc 16:38, 19 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
OK and thanks. Wallie 17:58, 21 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Deleted article for Positron (video game)

I understand why the article was deleted as there wasn't much to it but it was a stub that just needed expanding. The game is pretty generic but only the first wave (which was the only screenshot in the article) resembles Space Invaders... the subsequent waves follow a unique psuedo random pattern. It was also notable for its extreme speed and multiple laser bolts on screen (as described in the article). It was a well known and big selling game for the BBC Micro and Electron (for which it was one of the very first commercial games available) although I'm not sure sales figures are available anywhere. It was the first published game by Gary Partis who went on to become one of the best known and well respected BBC/Electron programmers. With a full article, it would justify its place on Wikipedia... certainly as much as many other games. If possible could it be reinstated? It wasn't created by me but it was on my list of things to expand and I will get around to expanding it eventually! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Retro junkie (talkcontribs) 21:26, 21 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

RfA response (KieferSkunk)

Hi there. I noticed that you just changed your Neutral vote to an Oppose vote, citing that I have a lack of experience and a vague answer to the first RfA question. I just want to ask, is my answer really still so vague? I updated it earlier today with much more specific areas of work. And if it is still vague, would you please give me an idea of what kind of information you're looking for? Thank you. — KieferSkunk (talk) — 21:06, 22 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Block on User:24.164.136.207

Hey, I thought I'd pop by, and ask if you'd mind if I reduced this block to say... a month or 3. For a few reasons... I'm on the same network as this user, and, I know, that the IP addresses generally don't stick around for more than a couple/few months. Also, while that user was quite relentless in his harassment of tyler, they did manage to get in quite a few good edits. Anyhow, thanks for your time, let me know :) SQL(Query Me!) 11:57, 24 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

RfA thank-spam

Thank you!
Thank you for your help in my RfA. It hammered home a few things I need to keep in mind while admining and passed with a final tally of 40/0/4; two people forgot to vote in time, leaving me short of that exquisite number :-(, but I'll just have to fudge the next vote about me. Adminship feels slightly august but not particularily exalted, so I shall endeavour to consider it a toolkit and make sincere efforts to know what I'm doing before using it. Help with Nonspeedy Deletion Process

Upon examination of article Tyler Thomas, during my New Page Patrol, I noticed that the document had some very unbelievable claims . Upon investigation of this I found that while the site does exist, much of the article was a fabrication so I nominated for AfD. I also informed the author of this. Is there anything else I need to do? Thanks, VivioFateFan (Talk, Sandbox) 05:53, 26 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

If you have a look at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tyler Thomas, it appears this section was completed by Zetawoof. That said, well done in finding this article, which certainly should be deleted. Addhoc 10:54, 26 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Speaking of which, I wanted to ping you about Wikipedia:Mediation Cabal/Cases/2007-10-26 Lake Ontario Waterkeeper -- what's the next step here?--uɐɔlnʌɟoʞǝɹɐs 17:21, 29 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
If the AfD result is delete, then I guess I'll be explaining about DRV to StevenBlack. Otherwise, if the article is kept, I'm not sure. If there is still disagreement about the 'supporters' section, then perhaps I could assist finding a compromise in this area. I think I'll try to concentrate on article content, and not worry so much about user conduct. Personally, I doubt there are sufficient grounds for a user conduct RfC, however, obviously the process is available if editors want to use it. Given that all of the parties have now 'voted' keep in the AfD, hopefully there is less disagreement now, compared to when the article was first started. Also, more editors have got involved, which often makes finding compromise easier. Because there are now more editors, I think the best place for discussion will probably be on the article talk page, instead of the medcab page. Addhoc 17:48, 29 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Ok, thanks. I don't see much in the way of content dispute now, except for the issues of tagging messing up the article appearance. Not sure what will happen with that going forward...--uɐɔlnʌɟoʞǝɹɐs 18:00, 29 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

No problem. Thanks for the support. I was just wondering if Snakese's oppose count? Cause frankly, that kind of reason isn't really a good reason as many admins are on wiki-break. OhanaUnitedTalk page 19:15, 31 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Editor assistance

I found your name on the editor assistance page. Currently there is an ongoing issue with User:Crawdad22 on Atkins High School. I've tried talking to them, but their response wasn't very promising. I'd rather see them become a productive editor than a problem. Perhaps a 3rd-party opinion to help them understand wiki would be helpful, or any other suggestions? Thanks. Thanks / Question

Two days ago you assisted in an editing problem on Northport, New York. Thank you. Unfortunately Russellmba was back the next day. At least his edits attempted to be less blatantly bias and I'm not currently requesting further intervention, but I was curious if you could explain for my own knowledge what specific action you had taken and how he was able to edit again after the page was semi-protected. I just want to understand it. Thanks. --Fife Club 13:53, 1 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

The semi protection was designed to stop him abusing multiple accounts, not to prevent him editing altogether. Could I suggest you have a look at WP:DE for guidance in dealing with disruptive editors. Addhoc 16:30, 1 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

My rfa

Thanks for voting in my Rfa, which I withdrew from yesterday. Though I did not get promoted, I see this Rfa as being a success nonetheless. What I got out of this Rfa will help me to be a better, all around editor. Because of this Rfa I have decided to become better in other areas of editing. I'm not going to just be a vandalfighter. Though vandalfighting is good, being active in all areas of editing is even better. Have a nice day.--SJP 22:55, 1 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
