"Sheesh! With this sort of nonsense overkill going on over a simple message, Wikipedia is on my 'don't go there' list!" User:Pfblair

Don't get discouraged. This is actually unusual.... unless it deals with something highly political (Obama or Palin) or groups with deep seated hatred (Israel vs Palestine or Michigan vs Ohio St.). I've only had one other "nonsense overkill" on an article. It was one of my first articles. An administrator couldn't care less if I was new, wouldn't teach or explain, and leave short hostile comments in history section. I took things to proper channels... arbitration dispute where I'd win and then eventually the admin noticeboard where the admin got rebuked. If things get out of hand, there are procedures to handled things. Wikipedia had thousands of editors and we are all people with our biases, temperament and idiosyncrasies.

I'm stepping into this mess because I think your message is valid and I'm a user of phpGedView.

To partially defend User:Ronz, it looks like he does alot to undo vandalism and linkspam/promotional edits. This is a problem in wikipedia. Editors either use their watchlists or software tools to highlight where vandalism and linkspam are added. If I was a linkspam hunter, I would probably have tagged your edit as linkspam because their was no references and it looks like self promotion. After that, well....

I think you should create a new article on webtrees after it is finally released. If you need any help, just ask.

As a user of phpGedView, have your tried any beta releases of webtrees? I haven't been following the development. I just know it's there and look at it more after it gets released. Bgwhite (talk) 06:39, 13 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

I've been a user of PGV since (I think) about v3.1 or 3.2...but my family disliked the UI. When the fork happened, I swapped to TNG, and suddenly I have 20 family users. TNG is less powerful (it's not my main storage, that's at home) and I'm figuring how to add a CMS to it. I also used 'manage' 4 other PGV instances, but they are now also on TNG. I've tried WT, but have no plans to go that way-I've just gotten the tribe settled to TNG.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Pfblair (talkcontribs) 09:49, 13 August 2010
The article has a history that might give you some perspective: archive.
I think that a proper article about webtrees would be a good solution, but you're likely to have problems showing notability. Start with a WP:STUB article. I'm happy to help. --Ronz (talk) 17:18, 13 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
