Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. PRAHLADbalaji (M•T•AC) This message was left at 20:45, 17 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Stan VanderWerf edit

The article Stan VanderWerf has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Cahk (talk) 09:17, 18 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Citing sources edit

In this series of edits you added a number of external links to the Stan VanderWerf page. It appears that these links are intended to verify the content of the article, but to do that, you should use citations, not external links. Please see Wikipedia:Citing sources for information on how to do that. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 01:22, 23 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Got it! Thank you WikiDan61! I'm working on finding citations to replace some of these now. It looks like many of them have been corrected or removed by other wiki editors. This is helpful information. Thanks, again for the insight! PeytonRose (talk) 17:04, 24 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

VanderWerf edit

I see you've contacted several editors trying to explain your creation of the Stan VanderWerf page, citing his "Medals of Honor". There is in the United States a Medal of Honor; it is the highest award available to a member of the military, and its receipt is generally counted as a strong sign of notability at Wikipedia. VanderWerf has not been awarded that medal. The medals he has won (based on prior versions of the article) are lesser medals that do not generally automatically denote notability. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 20:02, 25 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, WikiDan61 for helping me better understand. Didn't realize that the only the Medal of Honor was good enough. So, why would other service Medals like the ones I found on Tom Cotton's and other veterans be included in their page and not get flagged for removal? Shouldn't they all be removed? Thanks, again for your help!

No, other medals need not be removed. If a person is otherwise notable, then a properly-sourced narrative of their military record is an appropriate part of their biography, but the medals alone are not sufficient to establish a person's notability.
