Zabriskie: Notability of Historic Figure Peter Zabriskie of Hackensack edit
My edit of the page Zabriskie has been challenged over the Notable person Peter Zabriskie of Hackensack New Jersey. I have not undertaken to write the Wiki page for him as I am obviously too close to the subject to be objective, but there is much written about Peter Zabriskie in publications on both commercial and governmental pages. Just a cursory web search of Peter Zabriskie Hackensack Revolution turns up 3-4 pages of titles that mention him. He is a subject in several books on the American Revolution, which was primarily fought on New Jersey soil and so on Peter Zabriskie's lands, and in his influence. That Peter was a host to General Washington was not his only documented accomplishment, he was also captured by the British in the process creating a war slogan that rallied the troops, "Here's a toast to King George! King George Washington!" He further commanded troops a colonel in the Revolutionary forces, and further still after the war remained as a Judge for New Jersey and was elected to be a Signatory on the Constitution for his home when it came the New Jersey for Ratification. All of this is written in published works where I have read and absorbed it. I have referenced my readings with my edits. Yet my detractors remain in disagreement with me. The Official U.S. Government records of Peter Zabriskie's correspondence with General Washington are public as is his signature in the New Jersey records for the U.S. Constitution held in Trenton. Which I had corrected to show in the digital forms Peter Zabriskie spelled as you see it here, and not misspelled as they had it. Standing on personal copies of Peter Zabriskie's correspondence and signature we have had, but now is with either the Bergen Co. Historical Society, or the Smithsonian.
In George Washington's own personal correspondence when it is read reveals that the time spent with Peter Zabriskie was more than just a night of retreat from NYC, it was a critical turning event in the war as General Washington left and returned to Peter's home having been enroute to Fort Washington which was a terrible rout. My editor's lack of American Historical knowledge is only more evidence that the already published accounts should be reinforced on Wiki "Notable" pages.
