Do not threaten Wikipedia editors

edit

Your edit-summary threat "DO NOT REMOVE. IMPROVE THE MATERIAL, OR YOU WILL PAY. I AM SERIOUS" here crosses a serious line. On its own it could be grounds for your being blocked by an admin. Please temper your comments, make no more threats and work here in a civil manner. --Tenebrae (talk) 15:00, 27 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, despite the anonymity? How can you threaten an anonymous person. It's obviously a figure of speech. Still I agree, but I expect wikipedia administrators and editors are obliged to do the same and do not get free passes as they have done and continue to do so for too long. I'm sick of revision squatters who instantly revert changes rather than improve articles. It's an endemic problem and could be described as a tyranny.PeterHarlington (talk) 15:36, 27 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
I hear what you're saying about anonymity, and Wikipedia takes threats seriously since, as we all know, a determined enough person can track an IP address back to a single computer.
I'm concerned about such label-throwing as "revision squatters." Each article and each case is different and each edit has to be taken on its own merits. As I noted on the Thor film's talk page, I respectfully disagree with your edits, for reasons I gave there. I do have to ask, since you sound as if you've run across revision issues (you describe it as "an endemic problem") whether you have been editing for longer than just since yesterday. --Tenebrae (talk) 15:46, 27 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
Who cares if I have edited before? Yes my submission was a poor starting point and I now think I should have submitted the changes to the talk page first and will do so if I want to edit an article in future.PeterHarlington (talk) 15:50, 27 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
I have to say, "Who cares if I have edited before?" is unnecessarily rude. That could have been said in much more civil way. And why not? There's no advantage to being rude; if fact, people work with each other more readily and agreeable when they're polite with each other. Regardless, I'm glad you're willing to discuss things on talk pages, and I'm happy to end our conversation on a positive, forward-looking note. Thank you for taking the time and showing the willingness to talk things out. With regards, --Tenebrae (talk) 16:08, 27 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
And I have been treated extremely rudely by a cohort of administrators and even someone from the Wikimedia FoundationPeterHarlington (talk) 16:38, 31 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
I understand English may not be your first language, so to answer your question, I did not say you threatened more than one editor. I used what is known as the imperative form to state, "Do not threaten Wikipedia editors" as a general statement. --Tenebrae (talk) 17:02, 31 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
I know how it works: you admins do all kinds of shit (and do) and regularly get away with it. Screw you people is all I can say after this. You must have a lot of fun shitting on regular editors. PeterHarlington (talk) 17:23, 31 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
I'm not an admin, and I thought I answered your question politely. If English is indeed your first language, I apologize. I was judging from some of the sentence constructions and from your earliest posts at Thor (film), which seemed to indicate your are from Norway. --Tenebrae (talk) 17:29, 31 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Final warning

edit

PeterHarlington, please be aware that the edit summary mentioned above is a gross violation of our rules. Because you engaged in discussion, I'm not going to have you blocked, but you absolutely must not threaten editors again. It's unacceptable on Wikimedia projects. However, you should know that any Wikipedia administrator can block you for this (or any other) offense. Philippe Beaudette, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 01:57, 28 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

By the way, I'm also going to delete the userpage you created. It's unacceptable in an environment that requires you to work with other users. Philippe Beaudette, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 02:13, 28 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
Page is now deleted. PeterHarlington, please do not recreate a page merely to attack the contributions of other editors (or anyone else, for that matter). If you have a serious concern about someone's editing behavior, there are a whole variety of options you can pursue. The first one, though, is simply to talk it out civilly and patiently with the other editor on their talk page or the article's talk page. Note that you shouldn't immediately jump to accusations of bad faith, criticizing other editors, etc. If you don't gain traction with direct discussion, you can proceed with dispute resolution. If you're willing to act calmly and civilly to pursue this matter, I'll help you do that. If all you want to do is threaten and bluster, then you'll end up being blocked shortly. Your call. Qwyrxian (talk) 02:25, 28 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
Final Warning? It was my first. I can list how you people have made a big mistake here and have overreacted (and I will do so). Each of these questions needs to be answered and each discussed point addressed:
- Where was my first warning Philippe Beaudette, Wikimedia Foundation? How can I get a last warning when there is only one incident and the incident Philippe Beaudette, Wikimedia Foundation refers to is the same as for the first warning? (This question is addressed to Philippe Beaudette, Wikimedia Foundation
The next are addressed to Qwyrxian and Philippe Beaudette, Wikimedia Foundation
- I have been threatened myself and am being threatened now? Hypocrites much? Over the space of a few days, I have been set upon by a league of administrators as can be seen here. I have not even yet posted one reply before this administrator Philippe Beaudette, Wikimedia Foundation has created a "Speedy deletion nomination of User:PeterHarlington" before I have even responded ONCE. How does that sound for Wikipedia etiquette and due process?
"If all you want to do is threaten and bluster, then you'll end up being blocked shortly. Your call. "
On the contrary, there was one so-called "threat" to an anonymous individual. But, having seen this page, I am now faced with multiple threats and User Page Vandalism WITHOUT TALK OR DISCUSSION....You see how this has panned out? All of you people are DOING WHAT I DID, but you have been around far longer than I *and should know the rules of behavior better*.
I am requesting that a warning be posted on this user's Philippe Beaudette, Wikimedia Foundation User Page for the Vandalism of my User Page; the inconsistency with the "Final Warning" as described above (where was my First Warning or was it one and the same? And warnings from whom?); Also, the threats made about Page deletion, Speedy Deletion notices before I even posted ANY RESPONSE at all. <- Definitely EXTREME case of Bad Faith by Philippe Beaudette, Wikimedia Foundation. It's a disgrace. PeterHarlington (talk) 15:25, 31 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
How can I be a member of a cabal of administrators, when I am not an administrator? The Mark of the Beast (talk) 17:45, 31 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
Sorry I didn't respond to this earlier. I deleted the page because I saw it on the list of pages tagged for speedy deletion as being possible attack pages. After reviewing the page, I felt that it did, in fact, qualify as an attack page, especially when taken in connection with the threat you made in an an edit summary elsewhere. So, 2 separate editors, myself and Philippe Beaudette, considered it to be an attack page. As for the issuance of a final warning, while I didn't issue it (Philippe did), I agree with it because you directly threatened another editor. Yes, I understand that you didn't mean that seriously. Most likely the reason it was a final warning was due to the nature of the problem. Not every bad behavior goes through a series of "stages" (from first through fourth/final warnings). In some cases, editors can be blocked without warning if the offense is grievous enough. Since you've now stated that you meant it as a figure of speech, and you know that you can't use such language on Wikipedia, there should be no problem for the future, right? As long as you're willing to edit civilly and collaboratively, I have no problem with you, nor should other editors. Note, also, that Philippe and I are not threatening you; how could we enforce site policies if we couldn't give warnings to users and tell them that their behavior could lead to being blocked? That's quite different than making a threat of violence (real or figure of speech), and I hope you can see that. Qwyrxian (talk) 09:48, 1 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of User:PeterHarlington

edit

Please do not make statements attacking people or groups of people. Wikipedia has a strict policy against personal attacks. Attack pages and images are not tolerated by Wikipedia and are speedily deleted. Users who continue to create or repost such pages and images in violation of our biographies of living persons policy will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Thank you.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion," which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. How are editors and administrators held to account for their bad behaviour and abuse of ordinary editors, then?PeterHarlington (talk) 16:36, 31 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

I have reverted your edits to Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/IncidentArchive713. Please don't edit archives, as they are historical information. If you disagree with what was done, there are a number of places to discuss the problem. The Mark of the Beast (talk) 17:48, 31 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
