Looking at the deletion log, I notice you seem to be making a decent number of G8 deletions for talk pages without corresponding articles. As a high school teacher or coach, he's not notable for that. As to anything else, the NYT obit gives nothing of note. Being a lobbyist or activist isn't itself notable. Look at WP:BIO and WP:RS for the sort of reliable independent sources you need to prove that he fits BIO. Remember that we are talking about Wikipedia's concept of notability, not what may be in your dictionary. There is probably a Sports Project here that might help you - if you use {{helpme}} at the bottom of your talk page and ask the question there, someone will be able to point you in the right direction. Aston Barclay Deletion

Hi, I have read your comments about your deletion on the Aston Barclay entry and feel that if Wikipedia is not to be a 'directory' then the rules around the inclusion of companies need reviewing. If a commercial entity is to be included, then thought should be given to that companies competitors and the detrimental effect that the inclusion of one but not all (or any other) companies in the same sector can have on said non-included company. I would ask that you review the pages of BCA and Manheim Remarketing and offer an explanation as to why these are considered worthy of inclusion when other companies in the same industry sector are not, even when the companies perform the same fuctions, within the same consumer market, to (largely) the same group of customers, within the same organisation and historical system. You have to be precise with wikilinks. British Car Auctions has the claim to be the largest remarketer in Europe, and Manheim Auctions has the claim to be the largest in the world. I'm not quite happy with their referencing, and have tagged them for improvement. The competition between companies is no concern here. A directory might need to be fair all round, but we record the notable - I actually knew British Car Auctions by name, not that is one of the criteria but it made it easier for me to find the article. Manheim I didn't know - do they operate in the UK? When those articles were created, the standard required for referencing was not so high (as is currently the case on many other language Wikipedias, in my experience), and it takes a long time to catch up with these things with so many articles. As I see your company, based on the info in the article, it doesn't have a claim to notability like the two others mentioned. There has to be a demarcation area, or we would have to include car sales down to the chap at 58 Acacia Avenue who parks his offerings on the main road with signs in the windows. If you want to campaign for a change in the rules and policies, please feel free to do so. BTW I've now added BCA to the BCA page. If you read WP:CORP for notability and WP:RS for what are and are not considered reliable independent sources, they should tell you. For references, no self-published things (including directory entries, own site and press releases), no blogs, forums or personal recommendations ("Dear sir, I thought I should let you know that the A40 I bought from you in 1970 is still going strong..."), no wikis (including us), and not AboutUs etc, or Facebook etc. Peridon (talk) 11:51, 7 November 2011 (UTC)

You might have done, but I can't find the evidence. That link at the SPI takes me nowhere, and when I looked up Sam Pepper, I ended up on a page about Big Brother which hadn't been edited by either (and didn't seem to mention Sam Pepper). I'd suggest getting the link sorted out so than the reviewing admins and clerks can see what you mean. Hang on, found it. Yes, I suppose it could be socking - I think it more likely someone just forgot to log in. Socking is more for when someone is really trying to look like a crowd, or evade a block, or interfere with a count-based process. Anyone can forget to log in, especially if they haven't noticed the 30 days box. I've just commented at the SPI that you've acted in good faith. If you do have any evidence that Bloober is really someone else, then go ahead and let us know. Keep up the good work - and don't worry, I slipped up by not checking their contribs before searching. I've set up the transwiki log over there, but I can't import the article as I'm not an admin there (it says). If you go to [[Wikipedia:Transwiki log]] at Luganda, and read http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Import it should be OK. Doing it this way saves a copy and paste of the article and a copy and paste of the history. If it doesn't work, get back to me and I'll do some more digging. Never done this before... numi post

Hi, I recently talked to user Acroterion about the Numi Organic Tea article I posted and they told me that you deleted it. As my first wiki entry I was wondering why it was deleted. My intentions were not to advertise, which is why it was supposedly deleted. What kind of information are you specifically looking for, and more importantly, what in particular is considered unacceptable? I already read some articles how on to start a wiki page and cite references, so perhaps I missed something? Thanks

Please sign talk page posts with ~~~~. Thanks. OK, the article wasn't as bad as the previous version, but it still came over as 'written by the company' not 'written about the company'. Look at WP:NPOV about neutral point of view. If you still disagree that the wording was not neutral - it can be the look of it rather than the intent - you can try again with it and see what happens. I would advise reading some other articles first, and then trying to make it more neutral. Put it in your userspace (ask if you don't know how) with '''DRAFT''' at the top, and then ask for advice and opinion. Most regular editors and admins are willing to give opinions. The Centaurus (building)

I see that you deleted The Centaurus (building). Is there a particular reason as to why the article was deleted? The summary says promotion/advertising. If that was the case, could the article have been cleaned up or perhaps brought to attention at AfD first? OK. The tag was spam, but there was also a notability issue in my mind. The article was very promotional - as this sort of article usually is. The referencing doesn't show notability - one is a company site, one a directory listing, and the Dawn one (the uncertain future one) doesn't work. The first version of the article (2006) estimated completion to be in 2008. The last version estimated 2012. Next year - who knows? I am wondering for whom it is 'necessary' to have an article about it. The builders, the owners, the architects, the estate agents? Two admins (Fæ and I) have considered it suitable for speedy deletion - I feel the same would have resulted at AfD. If you want to rewrite and reference it, I'll move it to your userspace. Article Deletion 'George Eliot Rambeau'

In response to the deletion of the article 'George Eliot Rambeau' I submit that the importance and relevance of the article is twofold: First...it enhances the 'Appearances' section of the article 'Morpheus' in Wikipedia by highlighting the neo-classical Grecian play format of a modern poetic creation entitled "In The Arms of Morpheus". This play was created in 1969 by the Central Texas poet Johnny Robert Gidley who used the name George Eliot Rambeau as a penname for its first publication. Secondly...this same Johnny Robert Gidley is a singer/songwriter who performed with his band, The Salados, as the backing group in the 1960's with Jerry Naylor...the person who replaced Buddy Holly in the rock group 'The Crickets...an historical and importat fact of musical history. In addition, Joe Treadway, Naylor's father, who was very prominent in the West Texas musical scene of the late 50's and early 60's was Johnny Robert Gidley's manager and produced his group, The Salados' first recordings. I believe these facts are very significant and should be considered as worthy of inclusion into Wikipedia's vast store of information. Sorry, I don't see them as significant. Notability doesn't rub off, and being on a tour with Naylor may mean nothing much. A trouble is that you don't give useful references. Birth records are only of interest where there is controversy - otherwise we just assume that people have been born. The ISBN 978-0-615-53121-2 doesn't come up as being in any library, and is not even found on Google. There could be an error in the number as given. The play is self-published, so far as I can see. This means that the level of coverage required to show notability is higher than if it were published by a recognised professional publisher. I don't see any mention of it having been performed. I'm afraid it's not easy reading the article - it's too dense and over-detailed in places. I don't think I've missed anything in it, though. Peridon (talk) 19:36, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for your response. This was the first article I have written for Wikipedia and I have had to learn on the fly about how to use the proper codes and references. I believe this article could be salvaged with your guidance and be of much benefit to the music and literary fields and historical records. Joe Treadway and Jerry Naylor were not of huge significance but my connection with them I believe was and is signifacnt. The book "In The Arms of Morpheus" is in libraries and although it's true that it was self published is an excellent example of 'Morpheus' in Grecian Mythology. Please sign posts with the four ~ things - it puts a signature and timestamp on. For those of us who use bot powered archiving, it helps greatly, as the bot then knows where things are. As to bad editors, I can see your point in creating it, but I'm afraid it wasn't what we call 'encyclopaedic'. It's more the sort of thing that we have in policies and essays already. (Essays are sort of commentaries on policies, and they are written by very experienced editors. They aren't 'law' like policies, but explain how things should work.) OK. "The Company provides the complete opposite experience..." - would you expect to find that in an encyclopaedia, or in a brochure? "attracts a more health-conscious crowd" - you have to back it up. "offering" - that's a killer. "the best traceable ingredients" - brochure-speak. (BTW 'traceable' doesn't mean 'good' any more than 'natural' = healthy. Deadly nightshade and hemlock are perfectly natural. You don't say where these ingredients can be traced to. Just my nasty mind at work...) Your references are either not independent (company site, and one that uses another killer, 'we'), and the other one is a plug for someone who worked on the branding (or something like that. Demolition job over, look at WP:CORP and WP:RS. If you can get somewhere near CORP, find the RS to prove it. Then let me see the refs. No blogs, forums, wikis, personal letters, people who worked on the setup, interviews where the CEO has had the questions in advance and the PR Dept wrote the answers - you get the picture. I like the sound of your menus and am trying to think where I saw the name. Wasn't Canary Wharf - never been there except through in a tube. Deleted Article "Lorne MacFadyen"

Various points. One is that a 'wiki' is a community acting together as a group - Wikipedia is a wiki. An individual page here is an article. You can create wikis at wikimedia - there's one for Terry Pratchett fans, for example. More to the point is that there are two reasons for deletion. The first was the tagged one - copyright violation of an IMDb profile. Please see WP:COPYVIO. Text published elsewhere cannot be brought onto Wikipedia unless it's public domain (age, or certain other reasons), or it's licensed under Creative Commons (see COPYVIO). Apart from that, the film that is the claim to notability is, according to IMDb, not yet released. Some producers, directors and actors have sufficient notability for an unreleased thing to count as notable. A film by someone with a very short article starring an unknown is not going to count as notable here until it's released, and gaining critical response and/or other reliable independent coverage - WP:RS. And yet again, sorry, but we are not the place for helping someone to get work. We wish you luck (well, I do anyway), but we are an encyclopaedia. We don't record the up and coming. We record the arrived and the past it. I'm afraid I spend quite a bit of time explaining to people that they aren't (or their pride and joy isn't) notable by our standards. If they're blatant and rude, I don't mind doing it. Otherwise, it's the downside of being an admin. (Just as vets have to kill little fluffy things on occasion...) For you, it's too soon. If the film is a roaring blockbuster success, someone will have written the article before you get time. If it isn't, keep going. Get the coverage. Actors used to keep scrapbooks of newspaper cuttings. Do it for stuff in print. Collect links as well. Paper coverage is valid - and it gets checked by our library connected editors - just as much as the easier to check web stuff. (That gets checked too - I found one case where someone had created two online newspapers simply to reference a tale that was a load of cobblers anyway, and which was discredited by someone who knew the terrain concerned as well...) Hi Peridon, That's totally fine - I was just creating the article on a whim - I honestly didn't know there was so much to it! I will do as you say and wait a while until the films are released - I hope you understand that all I amm trying to do is have something for employers to look at when they hear of me but I completely understand and respect the fact that you have to keep everything under strict rules to keep the site reliable. I'm not sure what I will be able to write instead as I am very inexperienced with creating wikipedia articles (this is my first) so what I am really asking is, is there any information on my page that IS usable under the current circumstances? Just so that I can have a page there, online for me to edit in the future? If not I would truly appreciate your guidance towards getting to that stage. At present, nothing much unless you have good coverage. This must be in good sources - no blogs, IMDb, forums, wikis, or anything editable. Not the Balerno and Currie Herald Tribune (founded 2011). Look at WP:RS to get an idea. Why not IMDb? Because it's often supplied by the subject (apart from the Adolf Hitler profile...). See how the film goes. Administrative tools

I wasn't aware that admins viewed differently. We get extra buttons - Delete and Protect/Unprotect (that one says Protect if it isn't, and Unprotect if it is). Also, there are things I've never done even though I'm an admin. Uploading images is one. I went and photographed something once, and found that while I was out someone had uploaded their photo of it. I've not bothered since. As to protection, a protected page has a little padlock in the top right. The colour means the level of protection. Anyone can see them. The ones you do see are Black (that's protected from high up - mostly on policies and such), sort of Brass colour (fully protected), and Silver (which looks black until you see the real black one and means semi-protected. They're at WP:PP. If you're meaning the actual thing that appears for setting levels, it's just three boxes. Two are for Edit and Move, and allow setting for All users, Block new and unregistered, and Administrators only. The time period can be set too. Sorry - didn't find this. You should post messages on talkpages, not userpages. As to your page, I don't think there's much point in trying to re-create it unless you can show that your company meets WP:CORP, and you can back this up with independent reliable sources WP:RS. Some advice: you'll get more interest from your Facebook page (the one with the info on) if you get the spelling right ('your' not 'you' for the possessive form), and give a more informative telephone number. The internet IS world wide, and telephone numbers may appear in more than one country. Some little old lady in Upper Slobodia might be getting telephone calls meant for you. Also, you say to visit your website - but for me there wasn't a link to it. It it doesn't work yet, leave it out. Three Ravens business

I've just read the article on The Three Ravens and seen the [awful] image of the centaur there... I made my feelings about removing the image clear on the article's talk page, but did not take any steps to actually do this myself (yet) given the original poster's apparent insistence on keeping it there (ew). However, I am teetering on getting more involved-- please let me know if there is anything more you think I should do to help push the point. I am at your service & command on this. I have given the talk-page text a careful reading and what I get from it is that the interpretation of the story has having such a creature in it may in fact exist in an academic journal, but I get no suggestion that the image itself does so. And then let's look at the image-- honestly, why would it? What is far more likely is that the person in question read the interpretation, drew a picture, posted it on Wikipedia, and now insists that it remain there-- and insists on it simply because he/ she read such an interpretation once. The art itself is [American] high-school level at best, and even a journal editor with severe myopia wouldn't publish it. The only real question is how do we keep it from being added back once it is removed, and it looks like steps are being taken in that direction at last. Will keep in touch. I just revisited the Three Ravens page-- a couple of weeks ago I went ahead and tried to remove the centaur image, and once again the "artist" who created it undid my edit and reinserted the image. And it still makes me wince. Were you ever able to get the uninvolved admin's participation that you mentioned? The editor who keeps putting the image back seems to need reminding about the principle of consensus and the pointlessness of engaging in an edit war. I hope you are able to assist. Thanks! I re-wrote the article that you said should be fixed. Now, there's a discussion going on about whether the page should be deleted or not. About the company, it's one of the best companies in its field... On Wikipedia we can't really show that by describing the company. I added a couple of links in the article and they were removed by an administrator. Links removed

The links have been removed indiscriminately. There are some that are linked to web pages that are not blogs, You Tube, Word Press etc., quite legitimate, but they have been removed. If it is true that it is non u to link to other Wiki pages, which I did on about 3 occasions, what is the reason for that? May I ask the person who removed the links, if you know nothing about the subject matter of the article, please leave it alone and go and play somewhere else. If the links were functioning and not frivolous, or self promoting sites, what is wrong? It takes time to do these things and it costs me a lot of money spending so much time on what I believe to be a worthwhile contribution to the history and ongoing contribution that this artist makes to South African music.Johnno777 (talk) 14:22, 26 November 2011 (UTC)

Actually, it was yesterday. You can assume what you like, but I am not party political and threatened the three main parties with legal action if they continued to mail me or deliver leaflets to me. (They have stopped. The smaller parties took notice of my first instruction of 'don't'.) Please read WP:POLITICIAN where it will explain to you that, so far as Wikipedia is concerned, being a candidate does not confer notability. There are possible exceptions - someone who gets into the final ballot for President of the US would undoubtedly have a certain notability (and would probably be notable anyway if he/she/it could afford to do it...). If Mr Charalambous can meet the requirements of WP:BIO for something other than his candidatures, he may indeed merit an article. If he gets elected MP, then he is automatically notable. As consolation, I have tagged (before I became an admin) or deleted (since) articles on many candidates for all sorts of positions and from all sorts of parties, and in many different countries. I treat them all by the same standard. I do not reside in any of the constituencies Mr C has stood in, although I have been to them (but not in election times) and have also been to Broadwater Farm. I’m afraid that your comments clearly betray your political bias. I’m not and never have been a supporter of Mr Charambalous or his party and am never likely to be so, but I do wish to read about him. Someone whose personal anti-politician views are so visceral that they take the extraordinary measure of threatening legal action against candidates for delivering campaign literature (If you ever tried to you would lose by the way as they have an absolute right to do so even if you don’t want them to – in fact by threatening them, if it was at an election, you may be guilty of an offence yourself, - strange but true.) Since you cited the WP:POLITICIAN I’ll remind you ‘…although such people can still be notable if they meet the primary notability criterion of "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject of the article…’ try goggling him.

And no the fact that you appear to be using Wikipadia to advance some weird personal agenda by deleting content is not a consolation to me it’s just frustrating especially when you have deleted something I wanted to read.

I ask again please undelete this perfectly reasonable article that I would like to read – even if you are not interested in politics or politicians others are.

I've taken a look at the original article, "goggled [sic]" him, and find he does not yet meet WP:POLITICIAN. Clearly, it is his pre-candidature work that would have had to recieve significant coverage that would make him additionally eligible. That page had recently been moved, but originally existed at Ceremony (novel) and was, before the unhealthy addition of some plagiarism, a fine little article. Before attempting to re-create the article, you MUST find the reliable independent sources to show notability. Read WP:RS about the sort of sources you must provide. I am sure that you know your subject well, and I am of the opinion that the quality of the work seen in the pictures could mean that the company has notability, but neither of these actually prove notability. Only the references from independent sources will count for this. I do not mean letters from satisfied customers, I mean coverage in the press or other independent media. Regarding Growards

Hello Peridon, do terms or words in wikipedia always need to be represented in an english dictionary? Regarding many of your entries, this does not seem to be a necessity. Growards is a new term used in at least my business circles in sweden, it has a connection to online marketing and viral growth, calling it a hoax is both absurd and insulting. This term will surely be more acknowledged in the future and i can find no logical reason to hinder it as an entry. If the description was vague or my language bad (english is not my native tounge), i can of course improve the entry.

Can you provide reliable independent sources (WP:RS) for it to show fairly widespread use? Merely being used in your circles wouldn't be enough for notability. If it is only going to be a brief definition, perhaps Wiktionary would be a better place - or, if the term is used in Sweden, in the Swedish Wikipedia. A search for 'Growards growth -growars -broward' didn't give an example of this word in your meaning, so far as I could see. Most of the hits were people by the name Groward, and a lot of the rest appeared to be those places that somehow suck in your search terms to draw you in. It'll disappear out of the search engines in a week or two. You seem genuine enough about this - but we do get a lot of hoaxing, and when we get something that we can't trace (and which is made out of two existing words...), we tend to go for hoax as the simplest explanation. (It's mostly kids or late teens, either testing our reliability or just being little nuisances.) When you can provide the refs, OK. Till then, it's not notable. (Nor would the 'discovery' of America have been, until the Seville Times and the Madrid Herald Tribune had reported on it...) Peridon (talk) 20:34, 30 November 2011 (UTC)
