The Wikipedia tutorial is a good place to start learning about Wikipedia. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and discussion pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~ (the software will replace them with your signature and the date). Again, welcome! Speedy deletion nomination of User:Paul I Spheniscidae edit

A tag has been placed on User:Paul I Spheniscidae requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section U5 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to consist of writings, information, discussions, and/or activities not closely related to Wikipedia's goals. Please note that Wikipedia is not a free web hosting service. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. User page edit

Sorry, but your user page does not conform to Wikipedia's user page guidelines. It is intended for basic information about yourself and your Wikimedia-related activities. Although a lot of freedom is allowed in personalizing your user page, it is not:

The user page guidelines have additional information on what is and what is not considered acceptable content. Thank you. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 05:03, 20 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

May 2020 edit

Hello, Paul I Spheniscidae. This is your user talk page; the purpose of this page is for notification and communication with other Wikipedia editors. It is not a workspace for articles in progress or self-promotion. Please use your user sandbox or the draft article space to practice editing or create new articles. Thank you.   Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to introduce inappropriate pages to Wikipedia, you may be blocked from editing. If you need guidance on how to create appropriate pages, try using the Article Wizard. You may possibly have originally started editing honestly believing that using Wikipedia to play around and post hoax pages would be acceptable, but you have continued to do so after it has been made perfectly clear to you that it isn't. You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for abuse of editing privileges.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  FASTILY 22:54, 20 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

Absolutely unacceptable. An indefinite block with no expiration time is clearly a pretentious and provocative attempt at moderation. My user page was clearly a humorous absurdity. After a through reading of the wiki rules, I concluded that I have committed zero rule violations. I would kindly request any moderators to evaluate the fairness of this sudden and perfidious block. It honestly seems like a trigger-happy mod has decided to abuse his/her authority on a user who has no committed any rule violations, per se.Paul I Spheniscidae (talk) 23:57, 20 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

Please read WP:UPNOT, WP:NOTWEBHOST and WP:NOTHERE. All of your non-talk page edits were to create your humorous user page, with no edits to the encyclopedia. Wikipedia is primarily a project to write an encyclopedia. User pages are meant for telling the community a bit about yourself in the context of your Wikipedia editing or use. It isn't a space that you can use for any purpose. If you have contributions you want to make to this encyclopedia, please tell what those might be. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 01:03, 21 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

I realize this must be a touchy concept for some - but there is nothing in the rules that prohibit humor.

1. I have not vandalized an existing page on Wikipedia, or placed false/hoax information on an existing page. 2. All my edits were conducted in my personal domain (my user page). 3. When I was told to stop editing my user page, I stopped promptly. I was redirected to the sandbox, where I assumed I could draft articles. 4. I was not given an opportunity to appeal the deletion of my user page, as it was done within the span of minutes. Fast work by some trigger happy moderator. Paul I Spheniscidae (talk) 00:16, 21 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Paul I Spheniscidae, there was nothing to appeal - your userpage met speedy deletion criteria and was deleted, and I can't imagine anything you could have written that would have changed the deleting admin's mind. There is indeed nothing in the rules that prohibits humor, but WP:UPNOT and WP:NOTWEBHOST, as linked by 331dot above, both apply - this is not the place to host your joke article. Also, I will note that brand-new editors are given much less leeway with their userpages than long-established editors (in fact, the speedy deletion criterion applied here specifically says that it's for Pages in userspace consisting of writings, information, discussions, or activities not closely related to Wikipedia's goals, where the owner has made few or no edits outside of user pages). If you've shown that you're actually here to build an encyclopedia and then create an silly userpage, people tend to be more lenient about it, but if that userpage is the only thing you're working on, we're not going to keep it around. If you actually want to contribute, please follow 331dot's instructions above and tell us what areas you plan to contribute in. creffett (talk) 14:05, 21 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
