Disambiguation link notification

Hi. When you recently edited Shajith Koyeri, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Sound editor (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Thanks

Thank you for correcting the {{DEFAULTSORT}} template on my user page. I put it on there before I truly understood how to use it. Eventually, I forgot it was there. How did you know to edit it? Allen (talk) 11:20, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

You're welcome.
Using the DEFAULTSORT template instead of the DEFAULTSORT magic word makes the page you use it on appear in Category:Pages which use a template in place of a magic word. There are a number of wikipedians who keep an eye on that category and others like it to find out which pages are in need of a bit of help. — Paul A (talk) 14:07, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

new to wikipedia

Hi there Paul A,

I'm fairly new to wikipedia and recently made my first edit, to the hugelkultur section of the compost article. But I see that you undid my edits, and you've been doing this a long time, so I must have messed up. Could you tell me what I did wrong? I thought that my contribution was new information put forth in neutral tone, and I thought I properly cited it. If you could help me understand how i could have made that an acceptable edit, I would be most appreciative.

I am very interested in hugelkultur gardening, and i think it deserves a full article, because it goes way beyond being a mere subtype of compost (the water retention of hugelkultur has allowed people to build vegetable gardens that the only water they receive is rainfall, enabling people to place gardens in places previously thought to be unfarmable). I'm slowly writing a complete article on hugelkultur (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Hugelkultur), perhaps you could take a look and give me some pointers.

Thanks, ABE — Preceding unsigned comment added by 150.131.64.1 (talk) 17:21, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

I have not undone your edits, or anyone else's, on the compost article. I have made only one edit to that article recently, which was much more minor, and not in the hugelkultur section.
Assuming that you're User:AbeColey when you're logged in, then as far as I can see nobody else has undone your edits either.

Lois and Clark listed at Redirects for discussion

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Lois and Clark. Since you had some involvement with the Lois and Clark redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion (if you have not already done so). --George Ho (talk) 05:46, 2 February 2012 (UTC)

MSU Interview

Dear Paul A,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 07:26, 12 February 2012 (UTC)

M.D.

Hello, Paul. After your edit to M.D. was reverted by Woohookitty, you should have started a discussion to seek consensus, instead of reverting his revert. Please see WP:BRD. Obviously, the two of you disagree, and that disagreement is not going to be solved by reverting each other's edits. You need to get other editors involved and determine a consensus approach. Thank you. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 12:06, 27 February 2012 (UTC)

Punctuation

Hi Paul, just to let you know that, when you changed the punctuation here, you inadvertently changed a file name, so the image disappeared. I know it's easily done, and I've done it myself a few times. Hope you don't mind me pointing it out. Cheers, SlimVirgin TALK|CONTRIBS 06:20, 6 March 2012 (UTC)

ISO

Hi, Paul,

Can you help me with building an infobox on my International Symphony Orchestra article? Also, how to make it so the search term "ISO" goes to that page, too?TheKurgan (talk) 14:02, 15 March 2012 (UTC)

I've added the appropriate infobox to the International Symphony Orchestra page. For instructions on filling out the details, refer to {{Infobox musical artist}}.
I don't think it's possible to make "ISO" point directly to International Symphony Orchestra; there's so many other ISOs a person might be looking for instead. But I have added International Symphony Orchestra to the ISO (disambiguation) page. — Paul A (talk) 01:48, 16 March 2012 (UTC)
Hi, Paul. Fixed the links/citations and removed the citation tag. Thanks for the assist!TheKurgan (talk) 14:15, 16 March 2012 (UTC)

Your last name

Hi, Paul. Recently you helped me with my new page International Symphony Orchestra. Thanks much for the help! I'd like to take a crack at pronouncing your last name. I'm sure I would botch spelling it, but I'm usually very good with pronunciation...:)TheKurgan (talk) 13:58, 19 March 2012 (UTC)

Question

Is the page Low Viscosity in compliance? I would like to follow all the rules so that it is not deleted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by LowViscosity (talkcontribs) 07:36, 2 May 2012 (UTC)

Redirect

The old Low Viscosity page was deleted because of capitalization, which is good, but now the old one comes up when googled and there's no redirect, is there any way this can be changed?? — Preceding unsigned comment added by LowViscosity (talkcontribs) 16:29, 2 May 2012 (UTC)

The best way to change it – being something that should be done anyway – is to make sure that the proper page has relevant links to it from other pages on related topics. At the moment it's not linked to from anywhere, which signals to Google that it's not important and needn't be ranked high in the search results. — Paul A (talk) 01:33, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

Good revert

...on that personally-identifying information in that biography. (I'm skipping giving the link, but it was pretty recent.) Administrators can (and I have in this case) use WP:REVDEL to remove that info from the public record, you're welcome to ask me or other admins to lend a hand if you come across similar sorts of inappropriate information on Wikipedia. Thanks! --j⚛e deckertalk 01:29, 20 June 2012 (UTC)

Well, that was a naive comment on my part, you know that better than I do. My apologies, but still, thanks. Cheers, --j⚛e deckertalk 01:31, 20 June 2012 (UTC)

Hey Paul, thanks for fixing that typo for me in my link. I must have been bleary eyed and didn't see it. I could not make the link work. Now I see why. LOL, Thank you. Whitelitr (talk) 04:09, 21 June 2012 (UTC)

Italics in title

Thank you for the pointer that DISPLAYTITLE is a magic word, not a template, and uses a colon, not a pipe, and for fixing my recently-edited articles where I used a pipe. —Anomalocaris (talk) 18:47, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
