Informational gain from Wikipedia edit

  • [ [ whatever ] ] to link to other Wikipedia pages
  • [ [ desired Wikipedia page | word/phrase that will appear in article ] ]
  • { { convert | measurement | original unit | converted unit |sp=desired language spelling } } unit converter
  • use common name in article, not scientific
  • look for plagiarism first, and make sure that the site is not just using the Wikipedia information
  • categories and interwiki links are needed
  • genus, species, and binomial names need to be italicized and species names need to also be bold in taxoboxes
  • use { { harvnb } }, remove brackets from footnotes

Welcome edit

HOWDY DOO! I am so excited that you have joined Wikipedia! I hope you are too! This should be the best time of your whole life. Wikipedia is full of information and interesting articles that should help you expand your intelligence, which is extremely "cool," so the kids say now-a-days. I predict that in the near future, Wikipedia will take down Facebook and Twitter, just like Facebook did to MySpace. When this happens, you can be one of the "cool cats" that had a Wikipedia page first! GROOVY!

Have a fantastic time! :D

Data Base edit

I'm not sure what your intent was regarding the addition to the data base. Please review and adjust as necessary.--JimmyButler (talk) 22:26, 23 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Disambiguation link notification edit

Hi. When you recently edited Gambusia affinis, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Brood (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

On plagiarism edit

http://books.google.com/books/about/Poeciliidae.html?id=UccfSgAACAAJ says "Source: Wikipedia". Many new books and web sites copy from wikipedia (and they may do so if they mention the source). But you don't need to rephrase what was copied from wikipedia. Cheers. Materialscientist (talk) 04:54, 31 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thank you, I must have read right over it. I have already had plagiarism problems with other information.

Editing edit

I've not logged on in at least a year... and on the first day back, low and behold, I find a student still tweaking their article. Maybe should make it FA. I'll go back and edit your course grade! Nice! Cheers, --JimmyButler (talk) 16:56, 15 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open! edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
