Speedy deletion nomination of File:Epidendrum powellii Schltr.jpg edit

A tag has been placed on File:Epidendrum powellii Schltr.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. September 2014 edit

  Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia. We always appreciate when users upload new images. However, it appears that one or more of the images you have recently uploaded or added to a page, specifically Draft:Charles Wesley Powell, may fail our non-free image policy. Most often, this involves editors uploading or using a copyrighted image of a living person. For other possible reasons, please read up on our Non-free image criteria. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. See WP:NFCC#9. --Stefan2 (talk) 14:50, 21 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

September 2014 edit

  Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but your recent edit removed a file deletion tag from File:Annualreportofbo1924smit 0467.2.jpg. When removing deletion tags, please be sure to either resolve the problem that the template refers to, or give a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, as your removal of this template has been reverted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia, and if you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you.   Please stop. Continuing to remove file deletion tags from file description pages on Wikipedia without resolving the problem that the template refers to may be considered vandalism. Request reason:

I have never created a wikipedia page before. I understand I have been blocked for issues regarding repeated speedy removal tags. I understand these are disruptive edits and harmful to the wikipedia community. It was not my intention to be disruptive. Every time I think I have gotten the copyright elements of a photo composed correctly, it turns out I am wrong. I will not remove tags to my images that I don't put in the description box. I didn't want my page to be reviewed without the images I wanted to include in my article and I am under the impression I am nearing the time for review (when I first uploaded my draft, I was told 3 weeks). I have been given fair warning. In a few instances, I wanted images to be deleted because I goofed up the uploads. I researched how to delete an image and I could not find a way to do it. It took me a few tries but I think I have the WikiMedia Commons images figured out...it's just the PD and Fair Use ones that need work. I thought a problem might have been that I did not associate my images with an article so I thought I needed to add "draft" to my article's name in the rationale description of fair use. Honestly, I'm doing my best. I am sorry for taking the time of the administrators in the management of this issue. Please forgive me. Panamaorchids (talk) 00:46, 23 September 2014 (UTC) @Ronhjones:Reply

Decline reason:

You're only blocked for 48 hours. I suggest you read about Wikipedia's image tutorials and help, so that when the block expires, you'll be able to use images correctly. PhilKnight (talk) 14:16, 23 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

{{unblock|I read the info you posted about article speedy deletion and I think the same applies to photo deletion. In one place I saw this, "If this project page does not meet the criteria for speedy deletion, or you intend to fix it, please remove this notice, ..." and that is where I stopped reading. I intended to fix the problem so I thought it was OK to remove the speedy delete tag. I should have read a little further. Additionally, I saw, "When removing deletion tags, please be sure to either resolve the problem that the template refers to, or..." same idea as above-I thought it was OK to remove the deletion tag because I thought I fixed the problem. Today, I see more information about "contest speedy deletion" and "do not remove this tag yourself." I would like to continue to edit Draft:Charles Wesley Powell and ask that you please consider removing my block. About the orphaned images notices, I thought once they were successfully added to a page the problem would be resolved. Also, you suggested I look into PD sources and I appreciate that suggestion. Yesterday, I did as you suggested. I found a photo on Flickr that I might use and I emailed the owner in Bogota, Columbia and he responded (cool).Panamaorchids (talk) 13:38, 23 September 2014 (UTC) @Ww2censor:}}Reply

{{unblock|You have been trying to help me with the image documentation for Draft:Charles Wesley Powell and I appreciate that. I truly thought when I was removing the speedy delete tags that I was following the proper procedure because I was fixing the issue by properly documenting the PD information. I left a page to verify I had the correct link inserted and when I returned to edit the page of my source, the image was gone. I thought I had the sequence of information addition wrong and not the fact that I removed the deletion tag. I am sorry for taking up your time. I have high regard for volunteers. I tried to ping the original blocker, but I don't know when administrators are online and I don't know if I did the ping correctly. I never attempted to ping anyone until yesterday and I don't know if I did it correctly. Regardless, I will not remove those tags. @ChamithN:}}

@Stefan2: I would like to include two Fair Use images in my draft article Draft:Charles Wesley Powell. The images have been upload but are described as "orphaned fair use." Please let me know if I understand the policy correctly: The images are due to and will be deleted. This is because Fair Use images cannot be added to a draft article. Therefore, the images will be deleted and will need to be recreated after the draft article becomes an article. Is that correct? Sorry to bother you, I am trying my best to follow proper procedure. Panamaorchids (talk) 16:04, 25 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Non-free images may not be used in drafts, see WP:NFCC#9. If the image otherwise satisfies WP:NFCC, you can request undeletion at WP:REFUND once the draft has been moved to the article namespace, should the picture have been deleted at that point. --Stefan2 (talk) 16:11, 25 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

@Stefan2: thank you for helping me. Panamaorchids (talk) 16:22, 25 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

@Ronhjones: Draft:Charles Wesley Powell I re-uploaded an image that was deleted because it was initially described as Fair Use. It now has a PD description. I think I have it properly described, now. File:CWPowellinHisOrchidGarden1924.jpg If you would verify it's done properly, I'd like to upload other images that were deleted due to improper description (using Fair Use instead of PD). Thank you. Panamaorchids (talk) 16:02, 29 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Almost there - suggest always use Template:Information at the top of the image page (copy and paste from one of the "white-boxes") - then just fill in after the "=" signs. If you created it from fresh (e.g. a landscape with your own camera - then use {{own}} as the source.) You need to add the exact url we can find the image page in the source, so that it can be verified where it came from, and that will then hopefully agree with the license shown. For Draft page - you can always use File:Replace this imageb.svg and say in the image caption that it will be filled in with a non-free image when approved. @Ronhjones: thank you *so much* for helping me. I think all my photos are properly documented. <3 Panamaorchids (talk) 23:44, 29 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

File source problem with File:Charles Leslie Pullen 1a.jpg edit

Thank you for uploading File:Charles Leslie Pullen 1a.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright.
