Uploading an image edit

I have been searching Wikipedia-commons for a way to upload an original photo to my article: Laytongku. Although I have searched several pages I still cannot find the right thing to click on for this. As a result my search has led me to this Talk page. I also understand an InfoBox has first to be established in which to insert the photo...can someone lead me to find the right section for instructions for adding an Infobox?Palukiwa (talk) 21:10, 12 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

You dropped this post on a number of pages asking how to upload images. Just click on the Upload file button about halfway down the left side of the screen or click on the link I've just given and follow the Upload Wizards steps. Very easy. After the image has been uploaded you can place it on the article page by using the following code: [[File:Name of file you uploaded (inlcude the .jpg or .png extension as appropriate|thumb|The caption for the image]] You can always place a {{help me}} tag (click on the link to see how to use it) on your talk page if you need some assistance. Good luck. ww2censor (talk) 21:50, 12 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

I started to place a photo taken by a friend who gave it to me to use on a Wikipedia article and which I uploaded as thumb But it caused a discussion since although it has a copyright but free use for me I don't know how to explain it. I would like it to be the head photo of my article: Draft:Telakan Karen of Laytongku. What should I do. I don't want to get into trouble with Wikipedia but I really want to use this photo since I was there when Jean Michel Frederick took it and offered it in an exchange with photos I took at the same time.Palukiwa (talk) 22:07, 14 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

When it seemed Wikipedia questioned my use of the first photo I selected I uploaded a second photo; File:Telakan villagers in traditional dress at daily tasks in Laytongku.jpg and on my Draft:Telakan Karen of Laytongku it is only shown as a caption (no photo) so I assume photos do not show up on Drafts...am I correct in thinking that? If so then perhaps I can continue working on my draft article. Thank you in advance for any info you might seem worthy for me to know on this. I want to be discrete in the photos, very few, I wish to use so as not to overload the article with them. So they have to tell at least 1,000 words each.Palukiwa (talk) 22:15, 14 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

The problem is not that images don't show up in drafts. You need to specify a file that actually exists. You say that you uploaded File:Telakan villagers in traditional dress at daily tasks in Laytongku.jpg, but that file does not exist. In fact you uploaded File:Telakan Karen villagers in traditional dress at daily tasks in Laytongku.jpg. --David Biddulph (talk) 04:48, 15 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

I see I left out the word Karen...my errour. Thank you for pointing this out since in my written notes to add the photo I left out the word Karen so when I went to place it I typed it incorrectly. I will try again and see what happens. I am also working on resolving the issue concerning the Sacred Elephant Tusk photo.Palukiwa (talk) 15:25, 15 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, I got my photo uploaded. I also managed to place it on my article as I wish. Thanks for the detailed info.Palukiwa (talk) 09:37, 13 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
I want to thank you for your wonderfully detailed info concerning uploading a photo and adding it to my article Laytongku. It was so simple once I studied it and tried a few tests. If you wish to reply please do so on my talk page.Palukiwa (talk) 09:46, 13 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
Good stuff. No problem and there was actually no need to make a new post to my talk page because it is usually better to keep all of a discussion in one place, so I've put it back here and replied, as my talk page notice asks. You can also always just hit the "thanks" button near the top of a difference page display that you get to from the history of a page or from you watchlist "diff". When you reply to a post you can drop a {{talkback}} notice on their talk page to let them know. Yeah, it can take some time to learn the ropes, even after 11 years I still learn new stuff. Cheers but ask again if you need help or post the {{help me}} tag on your talk page. ww2censor (talk) 13:06, 13 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia seems to have a network similar to the N'avi of the Pandora Planet...so I am answering you here as you indicated and I have a question since you have the logical and simple directives for what I need right now. How do I attach a second photo to my article Laytongku? I read the directives as were given but ...too many works and too many terms I am not familiar with but no logigical simple directive like you know and have mastered.Palukiwa (talk) 20:30, 13 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

You just need to get the syntax right, as explained to you above. When you tried you had spaces where you should have had the "pipe" character (|), see this difference. --David Biddulph (talk) 21:14, 13 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Concerning the photo

File:Sacred Tusks in the Telakan Karen Sanctuary in Laytongku.jpg

I have received an Email from Jean Michel Frederick giving me full use of all his copyrighted photos but exclusive for me to use and not to be considered 'Free Photos" for any other to use. He inicated also he would endeavor to work out the details with Wikipedia directly over this weekend or 18 September 2017 latest.Palukiwa (talk) 15:18, 15 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

I have contacted the Bangkok Post for the procedure for re-publication permission of two photos of the Sacred Tusks on their news article: Ancient carved tusks stolen from Karen village, 10 June 2017 for my Draft:Telakan Karen of Laytongku in case Jean Michel Frederick prefers not to release his photo as a 'free' to be used by anyone and since I do not want to pressure him on this hope the Bangkok Post will release theirs for my use.Palukiwa (talk) 21:12, 15 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Citing a Source Is there any restriction concerning the number of times a source can be cited in a Wikipedia article provided that the source is a reliable published work with a Library of Congress ISBN number and copyright is held by the user who wrote and had the work published and who is creating the Wikipedia article? In other words - Is one allowed to use their own publication as source material?Palukiwa (talk) 03:42, 16 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Additionally - If the work is published in England and eligible to be accepted in the Bodleian Library (all books or papers showing they are printed in England are eligible to be placed in the Bodleian) or Thailand in conjunction with Oxford, England by The Siam Society what makes this work eligible to be used by Wikipedia in a Wikipedia article. Is the author able to cite his own book as a reference source. What means does Wikipedia approve this work to be acceptable source material? In other words what does Wikipedia require the author to do to make his own work acceptable since the author holds the copyright and is willing to allow it to be cited even if using the same quoting word for word in the Wikipedia article as is in the published work? On the other hand can a self-published work be used as a source if it is available and found in a notable college, university or public library? What notations are required for citation?Palukiwa (talk) 04:15, 16 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

I have removed the File:Talaku Karen of Laytongku, Siam Society & Oxford Edition, Theaum Press.jpg. As the writer, publisher and editor of Theaum Press I hold the copyright, however, when a similar edition is forwarded to and is published by the Siam Society Journal and entered into the Oxford University archives at the Bodleian Library it will be used for citing and referencing. I only added my published and copyrighted edition for Wikipedia administrators to be aware of its existence and know of the future SSJ publication in Bangkok, Thailand. It has served its purpose on my draft to date.Palukiwa (talk) 20:41, 28 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

In addition it may have been noticed (though now deleted and not available for review.) that the File:Talaku Karen of Laytongku, Siam Society & Oxford Edition, Theaum Press.jpg was published by Theaum Press and dedicated to Dr. Lucien M. Hanks a former long time, deceased in 1989, member of The Siam Society, Bangkok. It is therefore a private U.S.A publication with all copyrights in place and all owned by its writer, editor and publisher: Tzaims Luksus, FRSA creator of Theaum Press, Old Bennington, Vermont, USA. It has been sent to the Library of congress with an application for an ISBN number now pending. Another similar edition will be sent to The Siam Society, as they requested and look forward to, for inclusion in one of their forthcoming journals.Palukiwa (talk) 21:21, 28 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Felix Yusupov edit

In case you didn´t notice, the talkpage comment you made was to a discussion that had been quiet since 2007. Nothing wrong with that, but in general, comments in very old discussions are (even) less likely to be noticed by anyone. Good luck with your editing! Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 07:23, 29 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

I didn't notice the discussion had been closed since 2007 but of course discussion concerning Felix Yusupov and Rasputin never seems to have an end and back, perhaps around 2010 I thought the Wikipedia article should include some information to doubt Yusupov's involvement in the murder of Rasputin. There is so much evidence against it. This spring Oxford Today, the magazine of the University of Oxford, published an article about this event. At about the same time there was an auction of Prince Felix's personal items including the famous uniform he wore at a masqued ball in London. As a result many letters came to the surface but it also came after John Browne's book: The Secret Accounts of the Imperial Family of Russia with details how the British Secret Service organized the murder without the assistance of Felix Yusupov. The sites that "Oxford Today" sent out were www.bit.do/yusupovoxford and www.oxfordtoday.ox.ac.uk. The latter I checked before writhing this and new evidence has been published in Oxford Today in an article called: "Organic Chemistry of Cyanide in Rasputin's Murder." It also lists the earlier articles concerning The letters coming as a result of Danziger's original article in Oxford Today. Unfortunately the real story will never actually be believed even if several times revealed since the fiction has become so great it now is considered fact and proves that if a lie is repeated often enough it becomes the truth. Well not really since the truth is always the truth and a lie is always a lie. This is so true in the story concerning Prince Felix Yusupov and Rasputin and will continually boggle the minds of the intelligent scholar. Whether any of this true information is edited into the Wikipedia article Prince Felix Yusupov is probably neither here nor there since the public probably want it as it stands so they don't feel having been duped through all of these decades. Yet it does throw a shadow upon the value of the Wikipedia article as it stands.Palukiwa (talk) 14:45, 29 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:Eldest Talaku Karen villager and new found Phu Chaik of Laytongku.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Eldest Talaku Karen villager and new found Phu Chaik of Laytongku.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{permission pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion.
