Proposed deletion of Bradford Billet

The article Bradford Billet has been proposed for deletion because, under Wikipedia policy, all newly created biographies of living persons must have at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article. The nominator also raised the following concern:

Bradford Billet Page Copyrights/Restore

Hello CanadianLinuxUser and Gene93k,

I recently created the Wikipedia page for Deputy Commissioner Bradford Billet at his request and utilized his official biography with his full permission, however, it was subsequently removed due to "copyright violations." These violations were due to the fact that the page itself is very similar to his biography listed on the NYC Mayor's Commission for the UN, Consular Corps and Protocol's (UNCCP) website. This is also taken from his official biography.

I am actively working with Deputy Commissioner Billet to develop this page further so that it may contain information beyond just his biography; this additional information will include items and articles he has had published as well other aspects of his personal career (the intention is for this Wikipedia page to be about the individual Bradford Billet as opposed to his Deputy Commissioner position) or any other items he wishes to include.

It is my hope that the Bradford Billet page can and will be restored so that I can continue my attempts to raise the online profile of the UNCCP across several platforms and make our commission more accessible to the consulates, missions, and other diplomats based in NYC who utilize our office.

• If the article is restored or recreated, it needs to cite reliable published sources independent of the subject. Bradford Billet's official biography comes from a primary source. Such sources are generally not acceptable for proving notability for inclusion in Wikipedia. I found the apparent copy and paste while trying to find reliable sources to support the claims in the article. You can contact OTRS to prove permission to use the text for restoring the article. But, it may be better to start over with a biography of Billet based on what reputable media say about him. • Gene93k (talk) 17:02, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

Autobiography

Some more advice: you say that you are writing about Mr Billet "at his request and... with his full permission." This comes perilously close to autobiography, which is strongly discouraged for reasons explained at Wikipedia:Autobiography. You should read that carefully, and in particular you (and he) should understand an important difference between Wikipedia and sites like LinkedIn and Facebook: if you write an article you will not own it, others can and will edit it, you will not be able to insist on your preferred version, and you may encounter Wikipedia's Law of Unintended Consequences. Getting started creating new articles on Wikipedia can be tricky, and you might like to try creating a draft version first, which you can then ask for feedback on if necessary, without the risk of speedy deletion. Bradford Billet

Bradford Billet is the Deputy Commissioner and Chief Operating/Administrative Officer in the New York City Mayor's Commission for the United Nations, Consular Corps and Protocol; through his holding this position, Mr. Billet is responsible for diplomatic and consular, legal, intergoverntmental and public affairs for UNCCP.

Honors

Bradford Billet has been recognized as an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) by Queen Elizabeth II for his work in the wake of the 9/11 Terrorist Attacks, which included identification of victims and missing persons.
