Purushottam Institute of Engineering and Technology(PIET), Rourkela (Odia: ପୁରୁଶୋତ୍ମ୍ ଇନ୍ସତିତୁଟ୍ ଓଫ୍ ଏନଗିନୀରିନଗ୍ ଅଣ୍ଡ ତକେନୋଲୋଜିି), (Hindi: पुरुषोत्तम अभियान्त्रिकी एवं प्रौद्योगिकी संस्थान, रौरकेला) was established in the year 1999-2000, to impart degree courses in engineering under the Purushottam Education & Welfare Trust. The prime objective of the Trust has been the promotion of facilities of technical education for people of west Orissa and around.The institute is accredited to NBA affiliation,with ISO 9001:2000 certification & is affiliated to Biju Patnaik University of Technology(BPUT) under AICTE.[1]


Academic Structure

The college offers 4 year undergraduate B.Tech degree program in the following engineering disciplines of:

  • Computer Science & Engineering
  • Information Technology
  • Electrical & Electronics Engineering
  • Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering
  • Applied Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering

It also offers 3 year postgraduate degree program in MCA, 2 year Master degree in MBA and 3 years B.Tech degree for diploma holders under lateral entry scheme with the approval of AICTE New Delhi, recognised by Govt.of Orissa and affiliated under Biju Patnaik University of Technology,Rourkela.[2]

Admission Procedure

The students are admitted through OJEE/AIEEE National level entrance test. There is also provision of Lateral Entry of 10% of sanctioned intake for Diploma holders directly to the 3 rd Semester in their respective branch of study as per the BPUT guidelines. All students admitted to the Institute shall have to abide by the rules and regulations of the Institute.

The Institute offers the following intake for the Degree of Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech)[3]

The administrative structure is de-centralised and clustered, giving way for efficiency and development.

Students's Empowerment

Robotics Seminar

The task of evaluating faculty members is given to students. Evaluation is conducted once a semester to keep track of academic performance of faculty members. The students also evaluate the facilities on the campus. The Registrar, as the head of the Governing Council, sees to it that all difficulties are removed for the benefit of the students. The management strongly believes that the the students should have the first say on what they like and what they don't like.

Curricular activities

These activities are designed to promote logical thinking, team work and leadership.[18] To promote creativity, programs known as “Talent Time” are conducted to encourage students to exhibit their talents during the hour. The “Talent Time” program is held once a month.The institution conducted an annual festival named "ABHIVYAKTI 2011" & ATMA TRISHA 2010.

Sports and games

The institution has a focus on sports and games. Students are guided by the director for sports, a physical training director and members of the faculty. Students spend at least an hour every day in games.

The annual sports "PIET Fiesta" is college-level event conducted in February. Inter-house games are also conducted. Games are compulsory for students residing at the hostels. PIET has won the prestigious"Padmanava Cup" [19]-an annual inter-collegiate Cricket Tournament where engineering institutions and universities take part in Odisha.

Library

The college has a central library with more than hundred foreign and Indian magazines and thousands of books,it has almost 16,000 unique articles related to various text books, reference books,abstracts & indexes, reports, encyclopedias, data books, standards (National & International) Journals. It has got online journals from IEEE & springer link to facilitate the students with future research activities.[20]

Wi-Fi Campus

The College has got excellent Wi-Fi access, it serves well internet facility with speed of 100mbps.The campus is connected to wireless internet system from STPI(128 kbps) & Reliance optical fibre (2Mbps) that helps sharing of internet to students & teachers for accessing e-journals & question banks.

Placement
