Copyright and paid editing edit

Hi: if you have any questions for me, please address them on-wiki unless there are privacy concerns. I tagged an image you uploaded on Commons as a copyright violation because it was one: you were not the creator of the work, and thus you don't have the right to release it under a free license. If you know the person who does own the copyright, you can use this tool to release the license the image as a compatible license.

Additionally, if you have a connection to the subject you should declare it per WP:COI. On top of that, if you have received compensation or expect to receive compensation for your actions on Wikipedia, you must declare them per our paid contribution disclosure policy. Note that disclosure is not enough: editors must also comply with the policies and guidelines of the English Wikipedia. TonyBallioni (talk) 17:17, 3 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

  • Hi again. I hate to bother you, but I do have a few followups, and unfortunately if you do not explain them, we might have to block. File:Allan.Peiper.AUS Ballarat 2009.jpg, which you uploaded on Commons you claim to be your own work. Now, I can't find another version of it on the internet, but it looks like it was an image of him taken in private while he was doing some event. This to me suggests one of two things: it is either a copyright violation that you did not take, so it needs to be marked as such on Commons, or you know him either personally or professionally and took the picture yourself and uploaded it. If you are his employee or contractor, it might also be copyright even then if you took it yourself, depending on your agreement. Finally, you really do need to disclose what your relationship is to Mr. Peiper and if he or someone else has paid you to edit his article. Please do not edit again until you have done so. TonyBallioni (talk) 18:36, 3 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Tony. I took a lot of photos - at a championship cycle race (Australia) in Ballarat in 2009. I have not used that picture (of Allan Peiper) anywhere online. I have used and uploaded many from that race several years ago, of riders from that same race see link https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=adam+hansen&dcr=0&tbm=isch&source=lnt&tbs=sur:fc&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj6vMOTurzYAhWhF8AKHf9uCqgQpwUIHw&biw=1366&bih=613&dpr=1#imgrc=A35hNMFqlMs26M: I own some bicycle brands (squadra / omerta / pdm / outback / flashingpedals / as trade marks also in several countries. The image of Allan, is from 2009, and I used the copyright use BMC AG approved image (you've suggested is in breach, etc) so I simply added my own photo, albeit out of date, but more relevant, than the image that's used elsewhere. Allan, nor BMC AG are employed by me, nor am I employed by them. If the allegations are from yourself, I'd expect a greater degree of common sense. No one has paid me to do anything. I know Allan well enough to say hello. He is, or was, a famous cyclist, so yes, I was a fan of his ability, hence the photo taking. I also photographed the team riders he was working with, that day. PDM888 (talk) 18:53, 3 January 2018 (UTC) I forgot to mention, that I often upload my images if they are of reasonable quality, to wikipedia for any use by others.Reply

Edit warring edit

You are involved in an edit war on Alan Peiper. You made changes that were then reverted. Per Wikipedia's BRD model, you should discuss any further changes you wish to make. Since you have not been previously informed of this rule, I will assume that you are not aware that Wikipedia has a three-revert rule: if you revert edits of other users more than three times in a 24 hour period, you may be blocked to prevent further disruption. I will warn you now: make no further reverts to this page or you will likely find yourself blocked. Discuss the changes you want on the talk page. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 17:38, 3 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

  • Please don't email me with questions that can be handled on-wiki. You may be disappointed, but you are editing against the judgment of three, maybe four editors. Drmies (talk) 22:32, 3 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

I'm not involved in any edit war, as you describe. A simple polite "message" to a new person, would have helped and been sufficient. My annoyance, was borne out of "work in progress" which you kindly explained, could be solved by work elsewhere (sandbox). As a new person, albeit, a previous wiki person (PDM88) I'd simply forgotten about. It appears "the rules" are instigated as appropriate, by others with admin power, which is fine. It's how the manner, in which it is unleashed, and wielded, which, is what, I would question. You mention the judgement of three maybe four editors, in which i refer to the above point..... I will not email you again. I'm easy going, and I will ensure, that, I give no reason to argue, factually, or the opportunity, for others to act in the manner, I have encountered, so far. Today's a new day..... PDM888 (talk) 09:54, 4 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Citing books edit

a question regarding the sources of material for verification of edits, re cycling related pages, etc. I have found that many online databases, are not so accurate. I have some published volumes of cycling teams, riders, and races, that span the years between 1972-2008. They are UCI published and endorsed volumes. I have not found these listed when I've tried inputting the ISBN numbers, searching for a published book reference. The only book links I have found, re these volumes, are of a US commercial online business, and I'd rather not promote or incur the wrath of wiki keyboard ninja warriors!

Any suggestions or thoughts? PDM888 (talk) 16:02, 8 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Yes, locating them in an online database would be ideal, but physical books can be cited using Template:cite book. What are the bibliographic details of the volumes? title(s), publisher name, publication date(s), ISBN numbers? Let me know if you have further questions. Scottyoak2 (talk) 20:16, 8 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the information that you sent to me regarding the books. I was only able to find them at bol.com but I you could cite them in a non-promotional way like this:
{{cite book
 |last1=Harens
 |first1=Herman
 |author-link1=
 |date=
 |chapter=
 |title=Wieler Jaarboek
 |trans-title=Wheeler Yearbook
 |url=https://www.bol.com/nl/p/wieler-jaarboek/1001004002059328/
 |type=Paperback
 |series=
 |language=Dutch
 |volume=2003-2004
 |edition=19th edition
 |location=
 |publisher=Uitgeverij Elmar
 |publication-date=March 2004
 |page=
 |pages=
 |isbn=978-90-389-1494-7
 |access-date=9 April 2018
}}
I've shown how to use the citation as an inline reference here. If any editors have issue, simply remove the URL from the citation.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Scottyoak2 (talk) 11:37, 9 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
