Invitation to join Women in Red

Thank you for creating several articles on women and their works over the past few weeks. We have become aware of your contributions thanks to research undertaken by Bobo.03 at the University of Minnesota.
We think you might be interested in becoming a member of our WikiProject Women in Red where we are actively trying to reduce Wikipedia's content gender gap.
You can join by using the box at the top of the WiR page. But if you would like to receive news of our activities without becoming a member, you can simply add your name to our mailing list. In any case, thank you for actively contributing to the coverage of women (currently, 17.41% of English Wikipedia's biographies).
  • Our priorities for February:

Black women Mathematicians and statisticians Geofocus: Island women #1day1woman Global Initiative

Invitation to participate in study

Hello,

I am E. Whittaker, an intern at Wikimedia with the Scoring Team to create a labeled dataset, and potentially a tool, to help editors deal with incivility when they encounter it on talk pages. We are currently recruiting editors to be interviewed about their experiences with incivility on talk pages. Would you be interested in being interviewed? I am contacting you because of your involvement in Wikipedia’s Women in Red project. The interviews should take ~1 hour, and will be conducted over BlueJeans (which does allow interviews to be recorded). If, so, please email me at ewhit@umich.edu in order to schedule an interview.

Thank you Ewitch51 (talk) 20:24, 11 June 2018 (UTC)

ArbCom 2018 election voter message

Hello, Oscar .. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)

Wikipedia blocking update?

There was a brief discussion on User talk:Jimbo Wales about the blocking of Wikipedia in Venezuela a week ago (archived here), after which I saw the message at [1], but that hasn't been updated since the 15th, when it said the block was 72 hours and not known to be official. I haven't found anything in English on newslookup.com or at netblocks.com (after the initial report that inspired the Haaretz coverage) that tells me anything. If you get a chance, could you let people know at User talk:Jimbo Wales whether there has been any change? Wnt (talk) 11:59, 19 January 2019 (UTC)

Hi Wnt, the block was lifted on Friday, it began in total silence, likewise has ended. But today it was reported the blocking of Twitter and Instagram in the city of Caracas, so the possibility that we will be blocked again is latent, adding to this the implementation of a draconian law by the National Constituent Assembly. We are looking at the possibility of using a banner for readers in Venezuela (in Wikipedia), in order to alert them to the increase in digital censorship that we have been victims of, cheers --Oscar_. (talk) 21:12, 21 January 2019 (UTC)
If you have the chance, you should post this update and new information to [2], and also to Jimbo's talk page. If you don't object I could post an update (crediting you) about this conversation to Jimbo's page myself, but it would seem better for the people there to hear it from the real source. Wnt (talk) 01:40, 22 January 2019 (UTC)
Wnt, we're are working in another statement, it's not my decision to change the previous one without local consensus, and since the block of other sites continues, we're alert if they censor Wikipedia again. Regarding talking in the Jimbo user talk, you're free to post my message there but the WMF are already in contact and monitoring the situation with us, cheers --Oscar_.
