Peer creation edit

Oh, so you mean one can only be created a peer once? Can you back that claim up somehow?

How about for instance Robert Smith, 1st Baron Carrington? He was created a peer in the Peerage of Ireland in 1796. He was created a peer – again, apparently – with the same title, but in the Peerage of the United Kingdom, the next year. That seems to contradict your claim. There are more examples.

HandsomeFella (talk) 19:07, 17 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi again. Let me pick your argument apart.
  1. Robert Henley was created Earl of Northington by George III.
  2. An earl is a kind of peer.
  3. Ergo: Henley was created a peer by George III.
Also, please note that the name of the category is *not* "Peers of Great Britain first created by George II".
FYI, the redirect Robert Henley, 1st Baron Northington is placed in category Category:Peers of Great Britain created by George II. This would reflect his first creation, as Baron Northington, by George II, hopefully to your satisfaction.
I am now going to change the categorization of the main article back. Please discuss, with me or someone else, before reverting again.
Cheers.

I suggest we centralize the discussion at WT:WikiProject Peerage and Baronetage#Discussion about people being receiving multiple peerages.
Will you move it there?

Howdy. I recommend you consider modifying your point #4 at NCROY to Monarch (country), since an increasing number of monarchial bio articles are dropping Monarch of country via RM results. Just a thought. GoodDay (talk) 13:55, 30 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi, tried to stick my oar in and assist with the list in an area vaguely familiar to me, but got stuck after Grinfield and before Osborn. Richard Parsons, 1st Viscount Rosse edit

Dear Opera hat, Senior Editor III (34,301 edits). You are a far more experienced user than I am (~8000 edits). I had not realised this when I intervened on the redirect page Richard Parsons, 1st Viscount Rosse, which you created on 25 March 2019, by requesting its speedy deletion. It redirects to Earl of Rosse. I guess you thought it would help readers by giving them the opportunity to read about the context of the dynasty. However, it creates a circular link on that page. It also gives the wrong impression that an article exists about Richard Parsons, 1st Vicount Rosse, which is not the case. I felt disappointed when I followed the redirect. The existence of the redirect also discourages editors from creating the corresponding article as the link is not red but blue and it is less rewarding to convert a redirect to an article than to create a new article. I may be wrong. I see you have created many redirects of that type. What do you think about this? With many thanks and best regards, Johannes Schade (talk) 08:47, 16 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Dear Opera Hat,

You have edited the LSWR article to say that three sections were empty, which I think everyone could see. Are you planning to complete them? I was formulating some material for those sections myself, but I'll hold back if you are getting something ready to insert.

Or were you simply handing out homework for other people? Afterbrunel (talk) 09:49, 2 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
