Bulk Edits

Hey Opark77, I've been looking over your contributions to the Sopranos and there is something you might want to consider. Instead of making lots of small edits, it's preferrable (but not required) to do them all at once so people do not have to load and look at so many edits. Also, if you are doing a minor edit, check off the minor edit box at the bottom left of the text box. It saves others time by letting them pass over your edit and focus on more substantial edits. Sorry it took me so long to reply; I accidentally took your name off my watchlist so I didn't see your question. The intended result of a request for comment is to bring the problem to the attention of the whole community, rather than just the few people interested in editing a particular page. The intent is usually to demonstrate that other editors share your opinion of the problem (that you're not just being mean or crazy), and often that is enough to give the other editor some perspective. If the problem is not solved there, it will go on to a request for arbitration, which usually results in the user being blocked or permanently banned. Fortunately, it looks like that will not be necessary here, so the request for comment has served its purpose. It's always better when we can all get along. I'm ashamed to say I've never seen a whole one. I watched 10 minutes of a season 3 episode decided I liked it but wanted to see it from the beginning. I do have the first series on the shelf as of 2 weeks ago. inuse template

Seeing that you are doing a lot of work on The Wire's pages, you may want to use the inuse template. Wikipedia:Edit lock it's good for preventing edit conflicts. Without it if you are doing a half hour edit, someone else coming along and fixing a minor typo could mess up the whole job. For the same reason, I'll stay off the wire pages for a day or so to let you work.JeffStickney

Sopranos

Hi Opark77, thanks for the heads up on that Sopranos entry. I see you put back in the entry in Luxury Lounge (The Sopranos episode) regarding Artie and his cookbook. If you look at the recepie Artie is using, its "rabbit" in Italian; and he pulls out a skinned rabbit from the fridge to cook it; his wife warns him that most people don't like rabbit. This is referring to the rabbit he is shooting at in his garden; so I thought that all of these items should be linked in the summary. Lgreen 22:30, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

Opark 77, just a note: when you're making a large edit to an article, it's preferable to put an {{inuse}} tag on the article, save it, and then edit and save again. It prevents the history from getting filled up with your edits.

Thanks for all your contributions to The Wire articles! I do want to know, though, where you found the information that Lester is 30. I always assumed that he was at least 45-50 if not older. Page references for The Wire: Truth Be Told

I think that every inidvidual citation to the Truth Be Told book needs a page reference to go with it. My copy is unfortunately at home in the U.S. (and I am in France for another month). Thanks for the page references, I will go about adding them myself. As for the peer review, it's really not that odd; there are many articles up for peer review at a given time, and with limited attention directed towards them, some of the longer reads attract few or no comments. The Fleshy Part of the Thigh

Rather than for purposes of disambiguation the individual episode articles are titled with the show name as per guidelines from the wikiproject:television page. Lost characters

Thanks for your message. While I don't mind doing the odd copy edit, I'm purposefully trying to take a back seat from the article while season two transmits in the UK (currently, the last episode aired was "Dave"). As I stated on the Talk page, I think the list was better, since any spoilers were left to the individual character pages, rather than the main article. However, I think the rest of the article is shaping up pretty well. I've just copy edited the "Episode structure" section, as it contained info that was either duplicated elsewhere in the article, or pertained to TV shows in general and wasn't notable enough. Namond Brice

Hi Owen, In "The Wire: Connected," which aired on HBO last Sunday, they introduced the school-age characters and there were a couple of good tidbits about them in there. Namond is the son of Wee-Bey and was seen visiting him in jail. They revealed some bits about some of the other characters as well, but I didn't connect the names. One is a foster child with a mind for business (I think that was Randy but I'm not sure), one is living in a really desperate situation and is good with computers (pretty sure it was DuQuan), and the third is the quiet one, and the de facto "leader" of the group. At least three, maybe all four of them, are boxers in Cutty's gym.

Hello: please re-examine the information for the image you tagged. The image is clearly listed under the Screenshot fairuse template ("This image is a screenshot of a copyrighted television program...") and provides the source in the description: "John Locke (played by Terry O'Quinn) holds up the two opposing colors of backgammon checkers in part two of the pilot episode of Lost." This is used in the Lost article to illustrate the thematic element of the colors "black and white", and thus the image falls well within the realm of critical commentary. --Leflyman^Talk 17:15, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

• With all due respect, please stop annoying me by re-inserting inaccurate tags and filling my talk page with excess template text. The image you have tagged was already examined by an admin, and returned. See additional discussion at Awyong_Jeffrey_Mordecai_Salleh's talk page. If you feel that the image is still lacking what you deem enough "Fair Use rationale" please be ever so good to add it yourself based on the extensive discussion already made. • Opark, please take this with due consideration, I'm sure you consider it "improving the article" to remove images, but I consider it a failure to understand some basic Wikipedia principles. Rather than tagging images you deem not to meet your standards for fair use, perhaps you might consider focusing on actual editing of article in areas you're familiar with. It's clear that the images chosen are discussed in the text, and that the images are identified as to their source. If you feel that's not enough, I'll again suggest: add the missing info yourself. Incidentally, you might want to note that I'm been editing on Wikipedia since 2003. I'm well familiar with policy; stating "Please remember that we assume good faith here at wikipedia" comes off as pedantic. (You may want to note that WP:AGF points out, "Accusing the other side in a conflict of failing to assuming good faith can, itself, be a form of failing to assume good faith.") Finally, users are given leeway in editing their own talk pages, and allowed to remove comments they feel are inappropriate. Users are advised not to remove warnings without cause, as this may be seen as uncivil; however, the excessive template you placed on my page was not such a case. Removing it was most certainly not vandalism, and your claim as such seems to indicate some misunderstanding of policy.

Hi, I hope you don't mind me commenting here. I switched the tag from no source to orphaned fair use on this image a while ago and noticed this discussion when I was following up. According to Wikipedia's fair use policy, criterion 10, images claiming fair use must contain article-specific fair use rationale. It is the responsibility of the uploader or those placing the image in articles to provide the rationale, as they are the ones claiming that the image is protected under fair use. As with all images that do not comply with the fair use policy, if an image claiming fair use does not contain fair use rationale 7 days after the uploader has been notified (since this image was uploaded before 13 July 2006), it may be deleted without further warning. One Arrest (The Wire episode)

There's a problem with the "Title Reference" section that I can't exactly figure out. Though the name of the episode is "one arrest" there are two arrests by the case squad during the episode. One is of Bird and one is of Kevin Johnston, the one eyed drug runner. Either there is a philosophical reasoning for this or it's a screw up. –– Lid^(Talk) 10:59, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

Technically, as the creators would know, it's irrelevent if they released Johnston as the arrest applies only to the inital arrest. Anything after that is being released from custody. In addition to that, seeing as he was being cuffed, resisting arrest, and carrying a large amount of product, he would had to have co-operated of his own free will to be released but I can tell you he wasn't as he had seen the entire case squad and their dealings. It's actually probably a plothole as to what happened to him, considering we see later on that you can easily make phone calls from prison to snitch, so the One Arrest title is one big confusing fuck. If we can find a David Simon quote on this it would be appropriate. –– Lid^(Talk) 14:37, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

Not a problem, you're doing an excellent job. I must say that List of The Wire episodes is one of the best LOEs I've seen. The Wire articles are all really well done. If you're interested, a discussion happened concurrently with the removal at Wikipedia talk:Fair use#Screenshots .282.29. The threat of removal is over for now, but it's kind of interesting. Every month or so the editor who removed the images tries to do it to another LOE, a big discussion takes place with no results, and then things die down. - Peregrine Fisher 23:02, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Great - I'm not so much into it either but from what I've seen its quite good. Of coourse Telly Savalas tried to play me in On Her Majesty's Secret Service (film)!!! in 1969. Its just the content seemed very inadequate let alone the style of writing. Some series have far better articles and more info on each of the episodes that some entire series articles on wikipedia!!! Hi. You just just caused me a major edit conflict at the Carnivàle ep list. ;-) Anyway, I have just made my final pass on the list and want to take it to WP:FLC very soon, possibly tomorrow. I have asked another eager Carni fan to read over the summaries just to make sure I have not left any grammar mistakes, but six eyes are always better than four. So if you want to read over the article again or leave some other suggestions before the Featured reviewers slap me on the wrist, it can't hurt and certainly is appreciated. I feel this article has everything that a Featured List needs, but I feel I'm a little to close to the subject and need independant input for whether the copyrighted image at the top adds anything to the list or should be removed, and whether the individual plot summary <ref>s that you have added (thanks!) should use the "url" parameter to link to the ep summaries of the HBO website. – sgeureka ^t•c 23:47, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks a lot for your note there! I suspect you're right about a sort of systemic bias in the creation of articles about specific shows and networks rather than the general concepts and processes underlying broadcasting that is created because fans and enthusiasts are more likely to write articles than industry insiders. (Incidentally, I thought it rather weird that several people have Wikipedia entries purely because they work as commissioning editors and are therefore considered major media figures, notable enough for an article...but nobody thought the role of commissioning editor itself was worth making an article for! I'm looking for an English expression...

Hi. I am slowly getting ready to nominate another Carnivàle article for WP:GA. The prose doesn't need to be "brilliant", so a copyedit is not required. But I am looking for an English expression for a header and all my dictionaries aren't helping. Specifically, I need to know a term that summarizes all the things that can be applied to the body that aren't usually a part of it, e.g. tattooes, contact lenses, fake beards and prosthetics. I personally doubt that the wikiproject templates should be removed from the talk pages of the merged articles. They can be used to notify other editors to use sandboxes to practice building up the articles' notabilities. Then, when the articles have become notable, they can be restored.

Oh dear, I notice that vanity-page requesting IP user got to you as well. He requested that I create a bunch of those articles as well. I did Susan Strickler, Darin Goldberg, and Robin Burger, but only Susan Strickler survived nomination for deletion. If any of your articles requested went through that, you have my deepest sympathy. I moved the page back because fictional characters who are nearly always called by a nickname get the article at that nickname, even when their real names are known. See Comic Book Guy and Paulie Walnuts for examples. Carnivàle copyedit

Characters of Carnivàle just successfully passed GA, highlighting a slight problem with in-universe writing. I took care of it and also rewrote related parts of Mythology of Carnivàle, which will have its GA review in about one or two weeks. I would like to go to FTC as soon as possible afterwards and ask whether your offer for a copyedit is still up. Eh, what the heck. Excuse my impatience, but I have changed my mind a little because uni stuff is coming up and it's better to have the FTC off my mind then. WP:FTC seems mainly concerned with comprehensiveness of the topic, which Carnivàle surely is (as a topic). So I'll focus on getting the Characters article up to speed so that I can (still) consider FA later, which may take some time (a week, a month?). FTCs can also go for a while, so the sooner I apply, the sooner I get the results. If the prose is objected there despite the GA pass (unlikely), there is still time to fix it. You are half correct. The image is irreplaceable because it is a fictional character. But the image is only used in the Elizabeth Bracco article to show how she looks. Since she is a living person it is deemed replaceable by WP:NFCC. Garion96 (talk) 14:28, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

You could probably do that but I don't know how. I mean, for the season boxes it would be no problem but it would probably look silly if the episode and season boxes are different colors. Of course, you could create one template for each season but I don't know if that's advisable. There's probably some way to color code it, though. If you know a code geek, bring him out now. I actually have no idea how the boxes work, that stuff is a big mystery to me. Removing spoilers

Hi Opark 77 - your edits removing "spoilers" from Transitions (The Wire episode) was raised at the administrator's noticeboard (see Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#Removing_spoilers.) It doesn't matter what you have decided the policy should be for The Wire pages - Wikipedia has a general policy on spoilers. After the episode has been made viewable via On Demand or anything other legal means, the plot is verifiable and should be included in the article. Don't edit war over such content, please. By your logic, we should not include the information after the episode has been broadcast in the United States because it would "spoil" the show for viewers in other countries. I've been meaning to ask you about your findings also. The Vincent Ward one was a mistake. But here are pics of Alan J. Wendl and John Badila: [24] [25] They are similar looking, I guess. But if you watch the episode again, I think you'll agree which one is which. I've been wanting to ask you how you have made your findings. For example, how do you know that Sophia Wang was the "Six Flags girl" and not Christine Lee? I would guess that we are both guessing combined with the best info available.

When McNulty reads the article it says "M. Scott Templeton and Alma M. Gutierrez". Also, when Templeton is on Nancy Grace, it says "M. Scott Templeton" at the bottom of the screen. MrBlondNYC (talk) 18:30, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

I'll be happy to try a rewrite of Final Grades (The Wire episode). As the fourth season finale, I think it's notable. I also think it's the most mind-blowing, gut-wrenching 80 minutes of television ever produced. The plot summary has to be rewritten, basically from scratch, though. I don't have the season 4 DVD yet (I live in Europe so I buy R2 DVDs and it was just released here) but I know there's a commentary track for that episode by Simon. That will probably be helpful. The math from my edit is correct, the current sentence implies a discount of 80 percent rather than a mark-up of 20 percent as any figure multiplied by less than 100 percent yields a number less than the original figure, and if you multiply any figure by more than 100 percent you get a number larger than the original figure. Do you need to complete the proposal process before you can begin a Wikiproject? The above WikiProject The Wire was recently started by Creamy3 but I'm not sure about its validity. WP:COUNCILs job is to create a directory of wikiprojects. Hi Opark 77. I just wanted to address some of your concerns about all of those users with the word "creamy" in their usernames who were a part of WikiProject The Wire and then were not. They are a part of a group known as the "Creamy Army", a group that I started. When they saw that I had started a new WikiProject they joined it. Seeing as how none of them are active members of Wikipedia and how none of them are familiar with The Wire I told them to take their names off of the project's "members" section. They're good people, but they aren't too interested in making articles or contributing constructively, so I told them that I'd like to go on with the project without them. I really don't know what I'm doing on Wikipedia. That much is obvious, since you deleted my "nonsensical, unsourced" section on A New Day (The Wire episode).

All I wanted to say was to warn people not to watch the commentary on this episode (which is on Disc 3) until they've watched all of the rest of the episodes on Disc 4, because Robert Chew, reveals a "major plot point", which I didn't want to say what it was (the death of a major character). Disc 4 hadn't even come from Netflix is for me, and the way that goes, I thought it would be appropriate to watch commentary on Disc 3, without having to worry about this.

There is a whole page on Wikipedia called Spoiler, if you have no clue what I'm talking about. Roger Ebert's essay on Million Dollar Baby seems to be a big "source" for this discussion.

I don't know. Maybe I was just upset.

You seem like an authority, but if you think it's inappropriate to give this warning on Wikipedia's page for this episode, then so be it. I mentioned it on the discussion board for the episode on imdb, and also on Robert Chew's page.

If you think it has merit, do you have any ideas how I can make it less (or not at all) nonsensical and how to properly source it?

Anyway, thanks for listening. I didn't really know how this works at all, and I didn't know how to find somebody that does.

Hey, I noticed you've created articles for the non-Weiner Mad Men writers. Good work. With the exception of Rick Cleveland, who is now a writer/consulting producer, I'm afraid they're all fairly obscure. Robin Veith is a she and was nominated for an Emmy for her co-writing of "The Wheel." Also, I think Andre Jacquemetton & Maria Jacquemetton could do with one article since they haven't done anything individually. Jeffrey Stepakoff

Jeffrey Stepakoff is an American television writer, producer, and author.

Education: He earned a degree in journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After graduation, he began working at an advertising agency. He graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a Master of Fine Arts in playwriting in 1988. He teaches at Kennesaw State University as Assistant Professor of Screenwriting since 2006.

Stepakoff’s ticket to television writing came through a Carnegie Mellon contact who was involved with ER. The contact helped introduce him to an agent and David Milch, creator of "Deadwood" and NYPD Blue. The 1988 Writers Guild of America strike prevented Stepakoff from working right away. Although he was offered a job as a scab writer for CBS's Charles In Charge, produced by Universal Television, he turned it down. When the strike ended, he was offered another job by Universal to write for Simon & Simon. His credits include Zoe Busiek: Wild Card, Major Dad, Dawson's Creek, Tarzan, Hyperion Bay, "C-16: FBI", "Flipper", "Sisters (Creative Consultant), "The Wonder Years", "Major Dad", and "Simon & Simon". Stepakoff also created pilots for 20th Century, Paramount Pictures, MTM, Fox and ABC. He developed and wrote major motion pictures, including Disney's Tarzan and Brother Bear.

His book BILLION-DOLLAR KISS: The Kiss That Saved Dawson’s Creek and Other Adventures in TV Writing [29], a revealing account of his experiences in the television industry, is a critically acclaimed one.

Membership: Stepakoff is a member of the Writers Guild of America, the Writers Guild of Canada, the Screen Actors Guild, and IATSE, and is a voting member of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. He currently resides with his wife and children in Dunwoody, Georgia.

The Wire critics/awards section needs some aid

I was just re-reading this article, having done some work on it a long time back (and finding some very old talk page posts of mine in the process) and while I see a common complaint theme of over referencing (largely regarding plot development having 2-4 references when effectively only requiring one - the episode itself), the bigger problem I stumbledupon was that the Acclaim section has been sent to the back burner.

What I mean is that the critical section seems to have been largely uneditted since before the fifth season, began, and the series entirely ended. The analysis goes upto season four, and then general calls for greatest show of all time that were based on the first four seasons. However at this point it makes zero mentions of the fifth season, or the critical reception of the fifth season, and then to a more significant extent because it has been ignored since the end of the fourth season it contains zero critical analysis of the series as a completed whole.

Less important, and more related to consistancy, but the awards section is inconsistant in its usage of winning awards and nominations using a largely unfamiliar italics/bold system I do not believe exists on other articles. It should probably be shifted to a format in the shape of:

• Best Television Show Ever Awards
  • Won
    • Best yadda yadda yadda
  • Nominated
    • Best blah blah blah.

I see you are a little busy with Simon's latest project, but on an FA that you have put such time into it seems a glaring oversight which I would do myself but there are certain... circumstances... that hinder my post-season four Wire knowledge currently that won't be rectified for a bit. –– Lid^(Talk) 11:06, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
