A bit off-key

Hello! Thanks for the friendly note -- that was pure pianissimo! Ecoleetage (talk) 19:35, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

Roger Miret

No problem - thanks for helping. Someone claiming relation to Roger e-mailed us to compin about outright falsehoods in the article. When I checked it out I noticed that the article was little better then nonsense and was entirely unsourced. Since really nothing was salvageable deleted it. A good article on this person is likley posible, but it would require some actual sources instead of nonsense. ---J.S (T/C/WRE) 23:34, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Help on Zulu Wikipedia

Hi! I've seen that you can speak Zulu and I want to ask you for help on that Wikipedia. Nowadays it's without people working there and, if you help me translating some phrases, we can improve that Wikipedia. Could you help me there, please? --Jeneme (talk) 07:58, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

Vandalism

OBM - would you mind keeping an eye please on user 90.218.111.106 They seem to have vandalised at least 4 articles over the course of a day - most recently Johnny Vaughan but also Francis Bacon. Cheers. Contaldo80 (talk) 14:49, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

Removal

Hey,

I think the reason i remove the word born is that with out it looks more like a biography with just the birth and in some cases death dates. The removal of the birth location was wrong on by behalf. What i have done in some cases is just move the infomation into a seperate sentence to "Unclog" the birth and death brackets.

Thanks for bringing this to my attension

Cheers, Chandlerjoeyross (talk) 09:40, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

I seriouslly forgot about the message. Sadly i feel that it has became an automatic responce. From now on all edits to do with the removal of "born" will come with the edit note. You no my reasons but i will stop making those edits.

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Pineapple Express plot

Now I have seen the film I have stripped it right back to the actual plot details rather than the jokes. Darrenhusted (talk) 14:07, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

Whenever I go to the cinema I look at the plot on the WP article and see what can be done, the problem with comedies is that people want to put in the jokes (Superbad being an example of some people recounting jokes). I think I am like you in that if I started to apply MOS to all film articles I would drive myself mad. But trimming plot can be useful, and you don't need refs. The other thing is spoilers, people will keep trying to take the last two lines out of plots or post spoilers. But it doesn't stop this being fun. Darrenhusted (talk) 14:24, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

Paul Gustafson

Hey there,

I've had a look at the work you've done in the test bed and I have to say I think you've been very fair. Whereas I do think the History section warrants a little more detail (and you should perhaps mention that an athletics career was in the offing here), I agree that it gives added weight to the subject's angling, writing and teaching activities, which are more notable. I am grateful also that you have appreciated the mixture of comments given by all of the uninvolved editors, not merely the ones who agreed with you. If this version of the article becomes the current revision I think we can agree that it is a fair compromise.

The only (minor) suggestion I would make is that an infobox be added under the photograph - that way there will be a quick reference point for users who would have been interested in just a stub, with more detail provided for everyone else in the actual article. This might then cater for both viewpoints given on the talk page.

Thanks again for keeping an open mind and for your help improving the article. All the best, John Mason (talk) 22:52, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

Hi Onebravemonkey, it looks like things are going well based on the above. That's great. Unfortunately, I am very busy in real life at present, and don't think I can really take this on at present. Good luck, though! --Slp1 (talk) 22:31, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
Hey Onebravemonkey, I have to say that your revision looks much better than the current article, it's much more neutral and has removed many of the irrelevant trivial detail which bogged down the article. On a technical note, Citations should be in the {{cite web}}, {{cite book}} etc. format, and duplicates should be reduced to single listings referenced multiple times, in the <ref name=XXXX> format. I'd be happy to take care of this though, if you aren't completely versed in the reference styles :) – Toon(talk) 11:37, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
You've done a good job with the refs, although you are right, books should be listed in a bibliographic section rather than referenced, since they aren't really beign used to reference anything. Also, the MOS generally puts inline citations after the nearest punctuation mark, just t make it a bit neater. Other than that it looks good! – Toon(talk) 20:40, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Yup, and guess who all the dear sockpuppets almost certainly are... so... just keep that sense of humour and don't lose real faith. --Geronimo20 (talk) 10:13, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

Your rollback request

Hello Onebravemonkey, I have granted your account rollback in accordance with your request. Please remember that rollback should be used to revert vandalism, and that misuse of the tool, either by reverting good-faith edits or revert-warring with other users, can lead to the tool being removed. For practice and additional information, you may wish to see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback. Good luck. Acalamari 16:05, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

The few sources I listed at the AfD were simply a way of my saying "I found these in less than 20 seconds... can't notability be shown?". I have since found more... and am still in the process... but since I have have no COI with this, I have begun sandblasting and rewriting the article to remove POV, Peacock, and unsourcable assertions. When I am through I hope it will then be nicely encyclopedic... and will most definitely ask you to look in and opine. This one is being a real pain, but I may be able to do it. I figure I am about 30% done. Wish me luck. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 10:04, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Inre your response on my talk page... Look immediately below your comment. The statement made there by the nom is just as helpful as the bickering and battle at the AfD. Sigh. I will do what I can. If I can find something, I will add the source. If I cannot, I will remove the assertion. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 17:53, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

It was a total pain-in-my-butt to weed out the fluff and find proper sources. I think he might now been seen as having a very minor notability... once I pulled his own HUGE ego out of the article. I can do no more, and my fingers are tired. I will accept your opinion, as I now have to get to work. Best, Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 20:04, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Joe Cocker

I'll tell you how the vandalism remained on Cocker's page for so long - you failed to notice it, you blithering idiot ! Mind you, so did I !?!*! Therefore, I will eat three bags of sherbert dabs in one sitting, whilst reading the Pussycat Dolls autobiography - surely enough for any vaguely sane person to take in one session. Best wishes (and anyhow - how come no Wiki article on said dabs ??),
