The Guard-York. edit

Hi, just wondering why The Guard was deleted suddenly from the band list on the York page. They were certainly very well known on the York music scene in the 1980's, ironicly better well known than some of the other bands in the list! Look forward to your reply, cheers. Aston Villa edit

I have cleaned up the Aston Villa page as much as i could, and i was looking around to see who was good at editing articles i was wondering if you had sometime would you be able to or help me edit the history section down? And also help improve its Scale rating. (Everlast1910 11:58, 5 May 2007 (UTC))

Hey thanks for the pointer quiet a few! :). I have just extended the 82 Cup winning section to the best of my knowledge and use of a website which was written by a man who knows a lot about Villa i was wondering if you would be willing to help...as i have only started i would say in the last few days to really get into Wikipedia and don't know much about it and also creating things. And my English isn't the best.

Thanks Andy

Thank you very much and i will get onto find more references!

Thanks once again Andy

Derry City F.C. FAC edit

Thanks for the advice. Other than the prose, are there any other outstanding issues you feel would prevent the article from attaining featured article status? I think I have dealt with most of the structural and image issues, although the team photo still remains in the article. Both myself and SeanMack have emailed the photographer, however, and are awaiting an email which will hopefuly enable confirmation of permission.

Also, have you any idea what to do about a reference link that is now dead but stored in Google's cache? I fear it may not remain there on a permanent basis. (See my comment three paragraphs from the top of the page in the FAC from 12:26, 3 May 2007 (UTC).)

Regarding the prose, if you feel that there are any other specific areas that need better explanation, maybe you could point them out, or take the editing into your own hands if you so wish? Sometimes it can be hard to spot areas which a newcomer to the topic would find difficult to comprehend when you know the topic pretty much inside-out yourself and would take some of it for granted. Cheers. Danny InvincibleTalk|Edits 14:28, 7 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I had no luck with the archive site. Anyway, the FAC page was closed (by a bot, it seems) even though I had dealt with many of the points and was in the middle of sorting out the outstanding issues. Have you any advice on what I should do next? Your edits to the article were fine and very helpful, by the way. The only part to which I re-added text was:
The club won the 1964–65 Irish League and subsequently became the first Irish League team to win a European tie by beating FK Lyn 8–6 on aggregate in the European Cup. The Second Round did not take place, as the IFA claimed that Brandwell was not up to standard, even though a game had been played there during the previous round.
Other Irish League teams had won individual European ties (i.e. either the first leg or second leg but went out due to an inferior aggregate score) as far as I know, while Derry were the first to win a tie on aggregate. I thought better clarification may have been needed so I inserted "over two legs" after "European tie". Also, the Second Round did actually commence with Derry playing Anderlecht in Belgium for the first leg. The second leg was not played though and Anderlecht were awarded a 'walkover'.
I think it is generally accepted the the worst of the Troubles took place during the early 1970s. Rioting, street-violence and death tolls peaked around 1972. However, I've left "despite significant improvements in the overall security situation over the years" out as the fact that the RUC ruled the area safe to stage football again would suggest an improvement anyway. Danny InvincibleTalk|Edits 06:12, 8 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I think it might be worth keeping the mention of Aston Villa in the jersey section. It explains why the colours of claret and blue in particular were first chosen. Danny InvincibleTalk|Edits 19:37, 30 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well, it got there at last. I just wanted to say thanks very much for all the continuous help and advice you gave. Cheers. Danny InvincibleTalk|Edits 13:07, 11 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Palermo edit

The word is singular but always used with a plural article (e.g. i rosanero). In fact it is a bit curious, as all other teams refer to their nickname changing both article and word in the plural form (e.g., i rossoneri, i giallorossi, and i rossoblu too, as blu is invariable in Italian). I don't really think there's one particular reason different than the fact that i rosaneri would sound a bit weird in Italian. --Angelo 12:00, 27 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re: MCFC and grammar edit

With regard to the example you gave, I agree that "Manchester City was founded..." would sound odd. However, "Manchester City Football Club was founded..." sounds perfectly normal to me. As the name implies, discretionary plural is a matter of discretion and, by extension, opinion. Also, with regard to the run-on sentences, I guess that's just a by-product of my upbringing as a writer of complex English. It seemed logical to make the paragraph flow better. I was just being bold with my editing. Glad you appreciated some of the other edits though. I hope my work gets properly acknowledged someday. Oldham categories at Cfd edit

The question of whether 'Oldham' cats should be renamed to 'Metropoloitan Borough of Oldham' has been taken to CfD, see Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2007_June_9#Oldham. As far as I can tell, this renaming proposal would apply to Wigan, Stockport and all other metropolitan boroughs - UK-wide - that share a name with a town. Your contributions would be welcome. re Adminship? edit

Thanks for your kind words. I thought quite seriously about it several months ago, then rather went off the idea. Recently I've been wavering a bit. Unfortunately, some things in 'real life' are popping up at unpredictable times (for example, I've been unavoidably off-wiki for a few days now after about ten minutes notice), and so I don't think now is a good time. A couple of months should see that problem off, then perhaps it'll be time for another look. Again, thanks. Regards, Mr Stephen 08:54, 15 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Your message edit

With regards to the message you have left on my userpage, I notice you have not left any on jhamez84's yet he violated 3RR. Have you actually checked my edits? Would you please tell me which ones are unreasonable. I think the one on the Lancashire page about the Palatine boundaries are particularly important since Jhamez84 is actuall making a claim that is not back up by a citation (or at least open to interpretation). Instead of throwing your wait about maybe you should do something constructive and try to resolve the dispute, since I have willingly enetered into discussion on the talk page. Instead of making threats why don't you go there, look at the arguments and express your own opinion. 88.104.88.173 19:21, 19 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

WikiProject Ice Hockey Newsletter

Dear Oldelpaso/Archive 5! You are receiving this newsletter because you have signed up as a member of WikiProject Ice Hockey. The purpose of this newsletter is to update on the goings on of the project, as there have been major changes, and a lot of new recognized content in the past few weeks. If you are an inactive user, you probably won't recognize the new and improved state of the WikiProject!

From the project, Maxim.

Article Improvement

By Maxim

Upon some discussion on the WikiProject talk page, the Article Improvement Drive page was revamped by Krm500 and Maxim. It was renamed Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice Hockey/Article Improvement, and it includes two section. The first section is called articles in dire need of improvement. It list articles, usually important, that are in very poor shape. The second section is called requested help. Users list an article they request help improving a certain article, which will facilitate collaboration, which is the aim of any WikiProject. There is one article currently listed there, Henrik Lundqvist, here. The goal is to at least get it to Good article status.

Diacritics

By Maxim

In the past few weeks, there has been quite heated discussion about the use of diacritics in article name. The current guideline is using diacritics in the pages of articles of all player names which require them, but redirects are exempt.

Task forces

By Maxim
There have been two new task forces started within the WikiProject to coordinate major topics.

Sweden Ice Hockey task force

This task force was initiated by Krm500. Its current goal is to improve Henrik Lundqvist to Good or Featured article status. It covers all Swedish clubs, leagues and competitions and associated articles, players and coaches that are Swedish, or have played/coached for a Swedish club, and arenas in Sweden. They plan to eventually operate as a sort of a sub-project, which will have its own articles for creation, ranking importance and quality of articles, and co-ordinate article improvement. Its current members are Krm500, Bamsefar75, and CLAES.

New Jersey Devils task force

This task force was initiated by Bsroiaadn. Its goal is to improve New Jersey Devils to Featured Topic status. Although it currently meets the required article count, the task force wishes to improve it further. Its area of coverage is very similar to the Sweden Ice Hockey task force. Its members are Bsroiaadn, JHMM13, FutureNJGov, Sportskido8, Michael Greiner, JRWalko, and Soxrock.

Requested Images

By Maxim
After discussion on the WikiProject talk page, Serte created a page for Requested Images. The page encourages users to license images for use on articles. The page also has section to request images for players, arenas, game situations, miscellaneous, and team and league logos. The page has been quite popular; since it was created on July 21, there have been six completed requests. There are four currently outstanding requests:

Article assessement completed

By Maxim
On July 12, Kaiser matias announced that he had completed assessing all the articles with a {{ice hockey}} tag, sorting them into Category:Unassessed Ice Hockey articles. Kaiser matias has ranked about 9000 articles in that category, and most were stubs, and "have no information at all", according to him. Everybody is encouraged to expand the stubs into real articles. This effort took around 5 months. A big thanks goes to Kaiser matias from me and all the project.

List of Aston Villa F.C. players edit

Thanks for moving that back. I didn't realise you were an administrator. You saved us a lot of work going through the WP:RM process. I have talked to the other contributor and he only wants what is best for the artticle, as do i. If the consensus and status quo of WP:FOOTY is to have it as List of... then we are quite happy for it to stay that way. If i'm honest i had not thought about the fact that the name could be miscontrued like you said it could. This is despite the fact that i got Victoria Cross to FA and so should know all about it! Thanks again. Woodym555 21:35, 9 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

As an aside, you couldn't pass judgement on the list could you? Need as many comments as possible, given your experience, your opinions would be welome on the FLC. Just wondering if you could give me any advice on how I could impove this article? Buc 16:38, 12 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your feedback. Could you piont out the blog ref to me. Yes I agree the "Style of play" and "off the pitch" sections are pretty poor right now because I just don't know and can't find any info to put in there. I thought the bit about his comment to UEFA could be used as an example of a feature to his personality, but I'm not sure what. As for the season sections, I'm going to ask all the members of WikiProject Football about what they think is the best idea and I'll use the most popular. Buc 16:23, 13 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
