Norman Lind edit

Hi! When searching for Arne Kjelstrup on Atekst, I found the following picture caption: "Trening i Skottland før Operasjon Sunshine. Fra v: Arne Kjelstrup, Norman Lind, Jens-Anton Poulsson og Leif Tronstad. Fra boka: Tungtvannssabotasjen". So I created a stub for Norman Lind. Would you happen to have more information about him in one of your books? Thanks, Geschichte (talk) 12:38, 5 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Fine! I added something about Lind's role in the Operation Sunshine to the Lind article. Also started a separate article about Operation Sunshine (will probably expand a little, maybe more on the main targets for protection and operative plans, the air drops, the training, various dramatic episodes, the railway sabotage, the liberation phase, etc). Lise Lindbæk edit

With regards to the Lise Lindbæk article, this is interesting. Kind of depends on how you define "war correspondent", I guess. Manxruler (talk) 21:00, 5 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hello! Your submission of Lise Lindbæk at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know!

So that's why I had to question mark the otherwise very interesting DYK nom. Manxruler (talk) 21:18, 5 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for finding Gerda Grepp, and modifying the Lindbæk article. Might need to find another DYK-hook for Lindbæk. Any suggestions? Oceanh (talk) 03:29, 6 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. We definitively need a Lise Lindbæk hook, she's a very important journalist. Having been to lectures about Lindbæk by Sigrun Slapgard, I know her story quite well. How about her work for the Spanish refugee kids, or her narrow escape from the Nazi German invasion of France, or her book on Thälmann Battalion? With those first three suggestions the Spanish Civil War will need to be mentioned. Or her wartime efforts for the sailors of the merchant marine? Or the reconstruction of Finnmark? I'm quite interested in a Thälmann Battalion connected hook, something like: "... that female Norwegian war correspondent Lise Lindbæk wrote the history of the international Thälmann Battalion during the Spanish Civil War?" Manxruler (talk) 06:51, 6 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
By the way, evidently this: File:Bundesarchiv Bild 183-17036-0005, Spanischer Bürgerkrieg, Nordahl Grieg, Ludwig Renn.jpg is Gerda Grepp. Manxruler (talk) 07:35, 6 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Johannes S. Andersen edit

Hi. I just wanted to ask; do you have any info on "Gulosten" in your sources? Manxruler (talk) 12:04, 16 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi, yes "Gulosten" occurs several places in my books. I notice you expanded the article considerably yesterday and today. I do not have his autobiography, nor Bjørnsen's biograhy, and not Ulateig's book. He is mentioned in Moland's book Over grensen? (the index points to ten different pages), and in some other books I have. Maybe we should attribute the Max Manus quote to his own book (will try to find the quote, page number etc, and maybe more on Gulosten in the book Det vil helst gå godt). Will check if I can find something that is not already covered in the article.
By the way, you did a very good job on Lise Lindbæk, and on Odd Starheim! Oceanh (talk) 12:47, 16 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
That sounds like a plan. I only have Ulateig's book myself. I'll wait with the DYK nomination a little while, see what you can come up with. With regards to Lindbæk and Starheim; thanks, I try my best. By the way, I just remembered that there should be more about Starheim in another of my books. Will go look for that later today. Manxruler (talk) 13:00, 16 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
No luck on finding more on Starheim. However, I think this book should be a good source on Gulosten. Manxruler (talk) 16:06, 16 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
Moland's book (Over grensen?) has two relevant sections, one on the Bittern operation, and one on the assassination of Raymond Colberg. Added this book and five other books to the references. One minor fact corrected. Not too much new text added, because much of the relevant stuff from these sources was already in the article. Ulateig's book (Med rett til å drepe) was heavily criticized for containing inaccuracies (for instance by Moland); and the first and second editions were actually withdrawn by the publisher. Therefore I think extra citations are useful. Also, it might be helpful to specify which edition of Ulateig's book is used as source for the article (1st, 2nd or 3rd). Oceanh (talk) 00:19, 17 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your great efforts. Excellent work. Good point about the edition, my copy is actually the 2nd edition, I'll go add that right away. I think the article is DYK ready now, will go nominate it. Then I suppose the next step is GAN. Cheers. Manxruler (talk) 06:39, 17 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
The article on "Gulosten" looks quite nice now, after your latest improvements. Two issues: Sources "disagree" on his year of death (1968 or 1970?), I do not know which is correct. The infobox says "Ruth Johanne Andersen (wife) (1939-1945)"; now she was shot in 1944, but the killing was kept secret until 1945, not sure how such things are handled. I also collected some related information in a short article about the Operation Bittern. Oceanh (talk) 21:50, 17 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
Hmm... Yes. I see that now. I suppose we shall have to do a 1968/1970 thing with the death date. The marriage end date for Ruth will probably have to be 1944, even though Johannes wasn't aware of her death. Thanks for the great work, both on this article and the new ones you've just created. I think Operation Bittern should make a nice DYK. Manxruler (talk) 04:06, 18 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Norsk krigsleksikon edit

Hi Oceanh. Great work on creating the article Norsk krigsleksikon 1940-45. Tons of articles use that as a source, well done indeed. Another source book series that it might be useful to have an article on is Våre falne. I've using those books quite frequently lately, them being on-line and everything. Manxruler (talk) 13:07, 23 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. I created a short article on Våre falne 1939-1945. It can easily be expanded, for instance along the lines of the corresponding article in the Norwegian wikipedia (most of the content there is taken from the introductory chapter in volume 1 of the series). Hi! Again you did a good job, on expanding Gerda Grepp. Thanks for the expansion! Agree that the article is ready for dyk. If you can come up with a good hook, feel free to nominate. Oceanh (talk) 21:36, 23 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
I'll see what I can do today. Can probably think of a couple of hooks. By the way, great work on Våre falne. And thanks for pointing out (through editing) that VF is actually an encyclopaedia. Both thumbs up. Manxruler (talk) 08:18, 24 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi! Looks good. Thanks for finding a hook and nominating the article for DYK. Oceanh (talk) 14:25, 26 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, it's nice working with you. Good job job on the latest articles too. Nice to have an article on the Grinifangene encyclopaedia. I think Welhaven's a very fascinating character, might have to have a look at expanding that one, if I can find the time. Manxruler (talk) 22:10, 26 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
Agree that Welhaven is fascinating. There is some more on him in nbl, and something from WW2 in nkl. Might find something in Seip's book from 1946, Hjemme og i fiendeland (the name index has 18 page references), in Ringdal's Mellom barken og veden (15 page references), or in Haarstad's I hemmelig tjeneste (15 page references), plus in books such as Krigens dagbok, Norge i krig and others. By the way, I noticed you did a great job running through a bunch of articles and create links to Norsk krigsleksikon! Oceanh (talk) 23:53, 26 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
Indeed. I believe I've got quite a lot about him in one of my books. Can't remember which one right now. And in Krigens dagbok as well, of course. He was quite central in the early phase of the German occupation, in several different ways. It was good fun tracking down the articles that needed Norsk krigsleksikon links, I'd do the same thing for Våre falne, but as there is much more work involved in that (changing from ref book to ref encyclopedia) I won't until I have a lot of spare time on my hands, which probably won't happen any time soon. Cheers. Manxruler (talk) 00:34, 27 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
Yes, also finding the urls for citations from Våre falne takes time. I was not aware of the online version until recently. Might have look at Welhaven if I find time and inspiration during the weekend. Oceanh (talk) 22:12, 29 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
Yes. I stumbled across the on-line version myself a while ago when I was going to use the paper version for an article. If you should start work on Welhaven then I might join in, time permitting. Manxruler (talk) 00:42, 30 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Quisling's gun edit

Hi Oceanh!

Are you familiar with the anecdote that when Quisling was arrested and they confiscated his gun, they found it to be sticky because of all the liquorice he kept in his pocket? I believe I've heard this a couple of times, but I'm unable to find any information at all about it on the internet. Since you write a lot about WWII in Norway from a variety of sources, I figured you might know something about it. Thanks, decltype (talk) 18:57, 29 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi! I am not familiar with such an anecdote. Checked some sources on his arrest (Hemming-Sjöberg (1946). Domen över Quisling.; Høidahl (1988). Quisling - en studie i landssvik.; Dahl (1992). Vidkun Quisling - en fører for fall.; Heradstveit (1976). Quisling - hvem var han?.; Eriksen; Halvorsen (1987). Frigjøring. Norge i krig. Vol. 8.; Voksø (1984). Krigens dagbok.), but these sources did not mention confiscation of a gun, as far as I could tell. I do not have any particularly relevant sources on anecdotes from this time, though. Oceanh (talk) 22:12, 29 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
Well, this has always been presented to me as a true story, I think the first time was by my history teacher in upper secondary school. Now that I think about it.. the way it was told, the gun had been completely ruined by the liquorice, it could not even be fired. It was the lack of mention on the Internet that lead me to question the truthfulness of it. Thank you so much for checking this out for me! Regards, decltype (talk) 23:34, 29 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Double-triple nom edit

Hi! I just wrote up Elisabeth Welhaven. If Eva Nansen is expanded some (and if it's possible to expand Maren Sars much further) they could be combined into a triple DYK nom centered around their contributions to "Christiania's first salon". Or would you like to have a different hook for Eva Nansen? Geschichte (talk) 12:15, 31 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi! Good idea. Go for the triple nom! I might try to help with the expansion, if needed. Oceanh (talk) 12:22, 31 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. The nom is up. By the way, when you discovered "new" persons who were imprisoned at Grini (like Gunnar Haarstad), could you perhaps add them to list of Grini prisoners? Thanks in advance, Geschichte (talk) 22:06, 1 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the nomination! Added a few extra entries to the list of Grini prisoners. I easily forget things like this. Oceanh (talk) 00:50, 2 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Welhaven edit

Hi. Are we going for creation on 26 January (not sure if that's going to be accepted), or expansion on 30 January? I can come up with a hook if you like. Manxruler (talk) 16:55, 31 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi, great job on Welhaven from your side. Fine if you can come up with a hook. If nominated today, "Created 26 January" will be fine. ("Expanded 30 January" is also an option, if nomination comes later.) Oceanh (talk) 17:01, 31 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
Ah, yes. I didn't want to risk it so I called it a 30 January expansion and nominated it. Hope you approve of the hook. I guess we could move it to 26 January and call it new. Manxruler (talk) 17:28, 31 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
I'm moving it. Just got confused by the problems they were having over at DYK. Manxruler (talk) 17:32, 31 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
The hook looks fine, except someone might complain on the length if they count the dots (... ). Maybe too much geography (Norway + Norwegian + Oslo + Norwegian). One or two is probably enough, so I can try to offer a shorter alternative. Oceanh (talk) 18:47, 31 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
Very well done with the alt. You're right, of course, there were waaay too many Norws in the hook. Manxruler (talk) 22:19, 4 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
Ok thanks, my contribution to this hook was only minor. By the way, thanks for supplying photos of Cecilie Thoresen Krog, Hjalmar Welhaven and Thorvald Lammers! Oceanh (talk) 22:09, 6 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I've noticed you around for some time... Mainly at Norwegian sporting articles, therefor I was wondering if you would join the Norwegian Ice Hockey task force, which I recently created? Thanks for the invitation. I think I have never contributed to ice hockey articles, have no sources, and know very little about this sport. Even in those sport areas I contributed most (orienteering, handball, skiing, and olympics), I do not join projects or task forces. Wish you good luck with improving the ice hockey articles though! S-box? edit

Hi! Do you think Se og Hør's award "Årets TV-navn" is worthy of a succession box (the box at the bottom of articles)? It certainly has a popular appeal. Geschichte (talk) 11:25, 4 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi! Will leave the judgement to you. "Årets TV-navn" seems to be a prestigious award, awarded annually by the readers of the largest weekly magazine in Norway, normally reported in media independent of the awarding magazine, but unlike "Gullruten" not mentioned in encyclopedias such as Store Norske Leksikon as far as I could tell. It helps documenting the notability of the recipients, and a succession box as a navigational aid also helps creating context in Wikipedia. I am not particularly familiar with the mention of s-boxes in guidelines (only briefly mentioned here). The project Wikipedia:WikiProject Succession Box Standardization seems to deal mostly with formatting standards, while the project Wikipedia:WikiProject Awards and prizes seems to cover award-related articles, lists and templates. Oceanh (talk) 10:32, 5 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
I'll add it then. The thought is that not only "official" awards should be covered, and Se og Hør is certainly a large publication. It would be a different issue with some random newspaper. Geschichte (talk) 15:26, 6 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

I added it. Large, gaping holes in our coverage of TV were revealed. At least SNL is no better... Geschichte (talk) 16:03, 6 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

OK, fine. Oceanh (talk) 22:33, 7 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Vi vil oss et land edit

Hi! Seeing as you have written quote a lot about culture/literature, you don't by any chance have access to more background information on the phrase Vi vil oss et land? The most basic of facts are missing: What is the poem's actual name, and what book was it published in? It's a potential DYK. Fascinating how such extremely different groups have adopted the phrase (I mean, the Fatherland Party used "Norge for nordmenn" too, a slogan with miniscule appeal compared to this). Geschichte (talk) 22:38, 9 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

I wrote a short stub on Sivle's collection Bersøglis- og andre Viser from 1895. I do not have the original book, but a reprint is found in the 1925 edition of his "collected works", Skrifter. Oceanh (talk) 11:48, 10 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I noticed the expansion because the two articles were on my watchlist, and nominated them for DYK as they seemed to be suitable candidates. Good quality contribution to martial arts articles from your side! Oceanh (talk) 19:33, 19 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the invitation to Wikiproject Martial Arts. I normally do not sign up on particular wikiprojects or task forces, but made a minor contribution to the project by adding two former DYK articles on judokas to the list (Shokichi Natsui, from 2008, and Aurélio Miguel, from 2009). Proposed Merger of Haltenpipe in to Gassco edit

Oceanh: Recently, you created the page Haltenpipe. I have since nominated this page to be merged in to Gassco page. The information on the Haltenpipe article is valuable, but doesn't quite constitute its own page. Thank you for your contribution! --ANowlin: talk 14:56, 22 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

I have considered your merge proposal. In my opinion it is not a good solution to merge the individual transport systems (pipelines) into the Gassco article. If the Gassco article is short, it should be expanded in a different manner than focusing on the domestic Haltenpipe pipeline. The Haltenpipe is a "minor" fraction of Gassco's total responsibility. The Gassco article doesn't even mention many of the important export pipelines owned by Gassled, such as Statpipe, Norpipe, Europipe I, Europipe II, Vesterled and Langeled. You are now a Reviewer edit

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 23:53, 15 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Source question edit

I feel dirty for having used Folk og Land as a reference over at Johannes Kringlebotn. The following facts are referenced by FoL:

  • Birthdate (corroborated by the Norwegian athletics statistics page)
  • Places he lived. Fatherhood. (I added a brotherhood, because of same father + same places they lived)
  • Membership in BUL (corroborated by the Norwegian athletics statistics page)
  • Membership in two organizations, support of the Liberal Party
  • Writings in two newspapers, starting date in Folkeviljen
  • Small prison sentence

What I did not add:

  • Supreme Court sentence. Touchy material coming from such a source.
  • Him being first deputy to Parliament. Not corroborated by NSD POLSYS.

Feel free to remove anything that's unacceptable. Geschichte (talk) 12:53, 22 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

re:Agnes Mowinckel edit

You're welcome. I regularly check your contributions to see if I can add photos to them. I find many of your articles very unusual and interesting. Quite neat that the latest one made it to the Main Page. Best of luck with the GA nom, I'll contribute to the degree I'm able. Manxruler (talk) 23:28, 24 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Your photos are much appreciated!
I am not too familiar with the GA process, so it will be interesting to see what issues come up. Think the most challenging might be English prose, and what to include in the article. Also a bit unsure what language to use for title of plays: Original title, English title, or Norwegian title. Since the sources normally give the Norwegian title (in a few cases also the original), those are the only that can be verified directly. Oceanh (talk) 20:30, 27 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
P.S. By the way, congratulations with the Master degree, and also with your first book! Did not notice until now. Oceanh (talk) 18:19, 28 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, it's nice to contribute. With regards to the GA process, the GA folks will give feedback on exactly what needs to be done. I would say that it's probably best to use the English titles, because of WP:UE. Something that is really appreciated in the GA process is if one has a native English speaker give the article a thorough copy-edit.
Thanks! It's been a crazy year, finishing my Master's and writing that book, at the same time. Glad to have that done. Now I might be able contribute a bit more regularly again. Cheers! Manxruler (talk) 08:53, 29 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Marinens Flyvebaatfabrikk aircraft edit

Hi Oceanh. Just expanded the article you started on Marinens Flyvebaatfabrikk M.F.1. The book Marinens flygevåpen 1912-1944 covers all the M.F. aircraft. On a couple of points my source disagreed with yours, and seeing as the book I'm using is focusing solely on the Royal Norwegian Navy Air Service, and Hafsten is an authority in the field, I trusted that. Just DYK nominated the article, and I'll try and see if I can't go over M.F.2 tonight or tomorrow. Pretty soon, though, I'll be mostly incommunicado as I'm in process of moving to a different part of the country. Cheers! Manxruler (talk) 23:58, 12 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Great job!! Vera Henriksen's two volumes of Luftforsvarets historie are interesting, but cover each of these models only briefly, while your addition is a lot more detailed. Oceanh (talk) 06:33, 13 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. That's what I figured, Luftforsvaret is after all something far more extensive in both time and subject than just the RNoNAS. I'll see if I can work on M.F.2 before I'll have to start loading the moving lorry with boxes. Manxruler (talk) 11:24, 13 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
M.F.2 now expanded and nominated. Could you wait with creating more M.F. articles until I'm back in business in a week or so? I have to get back to packing now. Manxruler (talk) 12:09, 14 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Agnes Mowinckel, again edit

  • Hello, in the Agnes Mowinckel article, is "instructor" a mistranslation of "director", or is it an entirely different thing?
  • I still don't get a sense of why and how she was famous. For example, if she was a major director, then the first sentence should use that adjective (or a similar one), and then explain why she was prominent.
  • The article still reads too much like a list of hr roles and productions, and doesn't explain her claim to fame well.

Thanks • Ling.Nut 01:12, 24 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

  • Yes, "instructor" was the wrong word. It was a translation of the Norwegian: instruktør, which normally means "instructor", but in theatre it more often translates to "stage director" or "theatre director". Have tried to correct this. The use of the word "instructor" was obviously confusing.
  • For being famous, ... well, the article does not use the word "famous" at all. As a stage director she was an innovator, or at least she introduced modern concepts into Norwegian theatre. She was responsible for a large number of productions, many of which were successful, or innovative, or led to debate. At the same time she was an outsider, she had to fight for her ideas, and was met with resistance. So she was a disturbing element in the theatre world, anecdotes about her were numerous, and she was frequently caricatured. She was often used at special occations, either as director or actress, but theatres seldom "dared" to sign her up for long contracts.
  • The article mentions about eighty of her roles and productions. On average that is less than two assignments per year, over her active career. I agree that parts of the article then reads much like a list. Might try to add more stuff on a selection of these mentions, over time, in between other tasks.
Anyway, thanks for useful input. Oceanh (talk) 21:03, 6 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Victim or survivor? edit

Harald Slåttelid was at Grini, did not die there, but was executed at Trandum. Still, is it right to call him a "Grini concentration camp survivor"? He was arguably a "concentration camp victim" of sorts, even though he did not die there. Geschichte (talk) 20:48, 29 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

I think we can not call him a Grini cc survivor if he was executed. He is clearly not a survivor, as a survivor is someone who survived the war. For instance, we would not call those who died in Natzweiler for Grini survivors, even if they spent some time at Grini. In the case of Slåttelid, he was brought directly from Grini's cell "Fallskjermen", on the morning of 1 March 1943, to Trandum to be executed the same day, so he is actually one of those that were executed while incarcerated at Grini. Oceanh (talk) 11:42, 30 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
Victim, then? Geschichte (talk) 22:41, 30 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
It is obviously a matter of definition, and I do not have access to a precise definition of the terms. We can at least call him a Grini prisoner. He was sentenced to death in a "trial", and as such was a victim of actions from the German occupants. But maybe the term "concentration camp victim" should be reserved for those who died or suffered severely from causes directly related to the camp, such as maltreatment, illness, lack of nutrition, torture, killing without trial, etc? Being held eight months in a concentration camp, then sentenced to death, and executed two days later, does that make you a "concentration camp victim"? I tend to agree with your initial comment, but why use the term if it is unclear? Oceanh (talk) 02:12, 31 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

More DYKs edit

Hi, thanks for nominating Harald Slåttelid. I just DYKked Ørnulf Egge and Roald Halvorsen. If you can help with expanding Operation Almenrausch, I will 5x expand Peder Furubotn, and I will also look for information on Samuel Titlestad. That will be a five-double DYK. Geschichte (talk) 23:26, 3 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Great! Will see what I can find. Oceanh (talk) 07:32, 4 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
I haven't found satisfactory sources to write up Samuel Titlestad. Sorry. Geschichte (talk) 15:59, 10 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
That's ok. Maybe you should add a notice on the dyk nominations entry, or strike out your request to put the nomination on hold, as the dyk nomination has penetrated into the "red zone" without being reviewed. My sources on S.T. are largely based on books by his son (T.T.), and I prefer not to start an article based on those as the only source. Oceanh (talk) 02:27, 11 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Why edit

Why are you moving stuff to DYK prep 2 and stuff, when DYK prep 1 is not yet full of stuff? -- Cirt (talk) 14:59, 6 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Because I got an edit conflict when I tried to put it in prep1, as sombody else was busy in preparing that slot. I recon both have to be filled anyway. If both slots are only half filled and you are in a hurry, you can always move the hooks from one slot to the other. Oceanh (talk) 15:06, 6 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
If you are doing stuff like that, and both preps soon get filled with stuff, that sounds good to me, n stuff. -- Cirt (talk) 15:28, 6 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Book or encyclopaedia? edit

Hi Oceanh. You're good as these things. Is this book an encyclopaedia, or does it count as just a book? It consists of hundreds of short bios on Norwegian officers, so my gut feeling is encyclopaedia. What do you think? Manxruler (talk) 13:11, 28 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi! Not sure what to say about this book, which appears to be a biographical dictionary. According to my dictionary it may well be regarded as an "encyclopedia", as it probably is a reference work that treats comprehensively a specific branch of knowledge, with articles usually arranged in alphabetical order. As the choice of citation style, I often prefer the template {{cite encyclopedia |title=... |encyclopedia=... }} for a source of this kind, where the name of the article is put in the title field. Oceanh (talk) 21:32, 28 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thanks! Yep, your estimation of the content of the book is correct, alphabetically ordered biographies of something like 1,400 Norwegian officers. I'll cite it as you suggest. By the way, this book means I've got info on pretty much everyone who was an officer in the Norwegian armed forces in 1929. If you write an article on such a person, I can look him up.
