Your Proposed Article

I have moved your article you wanted me to review to WP:AFC to get another opinion on it. Articles that go through that process rarely get deleted and I would like another opinion on it, you can edit it there. The link is... Jimmy Wright (Professional Golfer). Thanks!  JoeGazz  ▲  23:54, 25 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Re. email

Hi there,

You sent me an email about Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Jimmy Wright (Professional Golfer).

I hope you won't mind if I reply here - for several reasons; firstly because it's easier to link to things here, secondly because this way other reviewers can see the reply I've given, later.

As it happens, I am not going to be on Wikipedia much in the next few weeks (at least), and so it is very likely different editors will look at any resubmission.

So - to answer your question,

If the article is about yourself, please do not write it - see WP:AUTO.
If it is a friend, colleague, someone you work with, etc - then please read WP:BESTCOI and note that the main advice if you do have a COI is to not write the article yourself, due to the great difficulty in staying neutral.
  • As to referencing: all facts in Wikipedia need an appropriate reliable source - the reader should be able to "check the facts".
So, we would need a reference for born Dec. 1, 1939, on a farm in Bentonville, Ark, that At the age of 10, he moved to Enid, Okla etc.
This may seem demanding, but if we cannot verify the facts, then if someone later changes something (for example, changing the date of birth to 1901) how would we know which was correct?
  • Reliable sources are, for example, mainstream newspapers, books, major news websites (CNN, BBC News). Not blogs.
  • Primary sources (such as the persons own website) could be used but a) only for simple, neutral facts (not for any claims), and b) they do not help show "notability".
  • For inclusion, an article must show "significant coverage in independent reliable sources" - see WP:VRS.

...and, to preempt your next question...yes, there are lots of 'bad' articles on Wikipedia that do not meet these requirements. However, that just means they need fixing - please help. The existence of other bad articles is not a good argument for adding more. See WP:OTHERSTUFF.

Some articles on Wikipedia were created long ago, and standards change; others, we simply have not yet got around to fixing or deleting.

For good articles to compare against, see WP:FA and/or WP:GA.

I hope that helps,  Chzz  ►  15:22, 27 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Sorry so long before I got back to this. The image of Jimmy Wright was taken by The Concession Golf Club Staff where he currently works. There is no copyright for it. What code would I use? I was looking but not sure. How would I code the image? Thanks Mike
