How embarrassing... I've just realised one of my cut and pastes is wrong. Unless you have a very good memory, it should read (oops again):

Swimming clubs

edit

Hello O1ive. I have noticed that you have created a lot of short articles on swimming clubs based in London. I am concerned that at the moment, the articles do not meet the notability guidelines, as they are do not assert the importance of the material, which may result in the them being deleted. eg, historical, sporting notability, or notability due to sheer size of the club. Generally speaking amateur-level sporting teams do not warrant and article (have the clubs produced notable Olympians, for example?, or won many competitions). However, even if this does not occur, you could write an article about the competitive league, and have the clubs as subsections of the leagues. Regards, Blnguyen | Have your say!!! 06:11, 27 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

I accept your thoughts on deletion, I didn't know about the notability guidelines and was posting the pages as a starting block for the club members to insert their notable swimmers/achievements.Chris 10:26, 12 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Redirects

edit

On 03-Mar, you created a "soft" redirect from Tonbridge Robbery 2006 to Securitas depot robbery. You should do a real redirect in cases like this. The instructions for how are at Wikipedia:Redirect. I've fixed this one, but if you need help in the future, let me know. Thanks! -- JLaTondre 18:51, 1 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Category:Kent geography stubs

Please don't remove the space in the piping from categories (like here). It is deliberately there to put these categories at the beinning of the alphabetical list in their parent categories (i.e., before the letter A). Grutness...wha? 02:03, 5 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Wikitravel

edit

Is Wikitravel part of the "wiki group" or spam, it has a slightly different address and is not mentioned on the "Main Page", I can't link commons to it, or can you help with info how. Olive Oil   18:52, 22 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

If a link to Wikitravel (recently acquired by Internet Brands) is adequate or not depends on the article you are referring from and the article you are referring to. I think it is unlikely that a link will be interpreted as WP:Spam as long as the content the link refers to justifies the link. Wikitravel is, however, not a project of the Wikimedia Foundation and has no special status in relation to Wikipedia. You cannot link to content on Wikimedia Commons from Wikitravel. --Fasten 19:11, 22 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ashford District/Borough

edit

Hi Olive - appreciate your comment, thanks. Of course the correct title (if we are being pedantic) is District in strict local government terms, but many of the erstwhile Districts had been Boroughs before the big changes took place, and didn't like the term given them: they had Mayors and all that, and you cannot really be Mayor of a District can you? I don't intend to set up another article though. Good job you spotted it before I'd got through all the parish councils. Peter Shearan 13:30, 3 May 2006 (UTC) Reply

Black Lion S.C.

edit

This article was nominated for speedy deletion by BLNguyen as it fails to assert notability. At the moment, it is also a short article lacking context. It has been prodded meaning that it might be deleted unless you can add more information establishing notability within 5 days. What we would be looking for are members who have represented England and that sort of thing. Alternatively, you can redirect it to Swimming in Kent. Capitalistroadster 06:02, 5 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

I agree the article should be deleted as per the comments in the Swimming clubs discussion. Olive Oil   07:07, 5 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Please keep an eye of the Force Research Unit page -- there are a lot of inflammatory and possibly dangerous allegations, weasel words, etc. that are being thrown about there by extreme partisans. I can't always do so as I am very busy at work and can't always get to the computer. I trust your objectivity.

Kent Project - Count me in

edit

You can include me. Are you aware of these pages Portal:South_East_England and Wikipedia:WikiProject England. They are parents to your ones. I am trying to get people to join in with these, its a struggle! MortimerCat 17:42, 3 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I think you know I'm in considering my editing on the Portal:Kent. I am worried that there may be an overlap with the aforementioned Portal:South East England and also how much help from others we will get, especially as old Morti here has been having trouble getting interest in that project. But to be honest, I find people are more likely to get involved the more specific to their area, and even if the don't, the smaller area would be alot easier for the few of us to manage. I'll also ask if you think the things to do section on the Portal:Kent should really just be linked to the Wikipedia:WikiProject Kent. Anyhows, I'll carry on doing more general Kentish editing as soon as I get a bit more time KevinCarmody 16:14, 5 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

My ideal scenario would be to have active county projects, eg Kent, East Sussex, where the actual collaboration and editing would take place. The South-East Portal would be a meeting point for the county projects, for general discussions and where we can get outsiders to review the work. But we do need a few people to take an active part. MortimerCat 20:01, 5 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your comments guys. I agree people are more likely to be involved with their own area of interest. I've done most of my work based on the Ashford area, expanding out to cover Kent. What are your areas of interest? (Kevin I assume Ramsgate, any more?) I like the idea of expanding the work on SSSIs (I worked on Cobham Woods including the {{Infobox SSSI}} and creating {{SSSI Kent}}), shall we agree a way forward? Olive Oil 08:33, 6 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I live just over the border in East Sussex, but I do sneak into Kent occasionally when no one is looking. I have put my suggestion on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Kent which is probably where we should continue these discussions. MortimerCat 13:12, 6 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yes - thanks for your message. Please count me in on all things Kent - my specialism is the Vale of Kent and the Maidstone area (I'm originally a Sutton Valence boy despite my user name) - --Boxley 14:40, 7 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Just a note. I think it would be a good idea to put this up on Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals as it is a new project. It also has the potential of gaining other interested wikipedians. Simply south 20:39, 10 February 2007 (UTC) Reply

AfD nomination of List of places of interest in Kent

edit

An editor has nominated List of places of interest in Kent, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not"). Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of places of interest in Kent and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. I have created a Image:Kent_flag.svg as a replacement to the kent_flag.jpg which has a lot of artefacts. The new image is SVG and can be edited using inkspace if needed. - Richard Thompson 18:06, 19 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

History of Kent

edit

Hi, I have been in contact with an archaeological firm that had done a lot of research into the history of Kent in the Springhead (Gravesend/Northfleet) area. They unearthed temples at Springhead and produced and article on their site [1]. The company has given us permission to use the content, data and images from the site if we want to expand the History of Kent article. They did make the stipulation that if images are used from the site, along with direct copies of content and data that a copyright should be attributed to 'Channel Tunnel Rail Link' as they were the company that paid for the original work, but have given full permission to be used. Is this something that can be done? I know you seem to do a lot of work on the Kent portal so thought you may be the best person to ask, I am still a fairly noobie on wikipedia. Richard Thompson 10:11, 20 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well done Richard, what format have you got their permission? - Olive Oil -ŢάĽɮ - 10:18, 20 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
I have it written in an email, I can forward it on if you require? Richard Thompson 10:20, 20 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
A copy of the permission can be placed on the articles talk page, however we should have GFDL permission, see Requesting copyright permission, in particular the How to ask for permission and the example requests on Example requests for permission, and the original article can be cited - Olive Oil -ŢάĽɮ - 10:39, 20 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Can we not make use of it underWikipedia:Fair_use? If not, I will email back to make sure it is ok to use under the GDFL Richard Thompson (Talk! | Contribs) 11:14, 20 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Hello. Olive Oil asked me to take a look at this conversation. I am pretty sure text cannot be used unless it is released under GFDL or the public domain. Images could possibly be used under fair use, but you should take a look at the fair use rationale page and see if your images would qualify. (Wikipedia has been getting stricter about fair use images.) Also, images that require attribution in articles are not usually allowed. You could, of course, use the information as sources for your own edits to the article. Hope that helps. --Fang Aili talk 14:28, 20 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
I think another email would be best for the photos, as Fang Aili said paraphrasing the article in an edit, with the reference, would be best for the text - Olive Oil -ŢάĽɮ - 14:38, 20 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thats fair enough. I will email to see if they will grant us use to use under the GFDL else will take your suggestion, thanks. Richard Thompson (Talk! | Contribs) 14:36, 20 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Having your own page deleted

edit

If you create a page, and before anyone else edits it you decide to have it deleted, like what seems to have happened with Category:A-Class Kent articles, please put a {{db-self}} at the top of the page, in stead of blanking it. This will attract an administrator to it to have it deleted. I've marked this one for you - since you blanked it, that's enough. Od Mishehu 11:35, 20 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks - Olive Oil -ŢάĽɮ - 11:38, 20 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

How do i design assessments on a wikiproject template? Simply south 23:22, 23 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'm not sure what you're wanting to assess, are you assessing an article following the inclusion of {{WikiProject Kent}} or are you wanting to create a new template? - Olive Oil -ŢάĽɮ - 10:29, 24 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Not exactly. Iwas wanting to set up an assessment process for the WikiProject i am managing. Simply south 12:33, 24 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
I copied another template,
  • use {{WikiProject Kent}} if you wish,
  • paste it to your chosen new template page
  • change any references within the new template from Kent to your Project
  • save and post your template on talk pages
