Speedy deletion nomination of Charis Books and More edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Charis Books and More requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company, corporation or organization that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Charis Books and More moved to draftspace edit

An article you recently created, Charis Books and More, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. March 2021 edit

Hi Nyeboah! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Lorenzo Kom'boa Ervin that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia – it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you. – 108.56.139.120 (talk) 02:16, 10 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I'm 108.56.139.120. I noticed that you made an edit concerning content related to a living (or recently deceased) person on Lorenzo Kom'boa Ervin, but you didn't support your changes with a citation to a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now. Wikipedia has a very strict policy concerning how we write about living people, so please help us keep such articles accurate and clear. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you! – 108.56.139.120 (talk) 02:16, 10 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Comments re: Maori Holmes edit

Thanks for reaching out, glad to help. My sense is that, yes, this article meets WP:GNG. I spent a few minutes searching and came up with three refs that certainly meet the standards for independent, reliable, in-depth sources: https://www.inquirer.com/news/maori-holmes-seen-magazine-blackstar-film-festival-20201212.html https://deadline.com/2018/02/array-ava-duvernay-collective-hires-maori-holmes-tilane-jones-1202291473/ https://whyy.org/articles/how-one-woman-expanded-a-philadelphia-based-black-film-festival-to-the-international-stage/

Since she created a notable organization, that also contributes to notability. In my experience biographies of Black women are most likely to be challenged, so the bar is higher. I would encourage you to spend more time searching Google. If you have access to JStor, search there--Google can be tricky with producing older sources.

Remove all the unreliable sources from the page and rewrite the article *only* using the reliable ones. Even if the page is a WP:Stub, that's preferred to a long article with questionable sources. Then, go ahead and WP:Move the page to mainspace. You don't have to submit your article through Articles for Creation.

Finally, here are some tips for sources and reliability: 1) City newspapers and mainstream media organizations/mass produced magazines (like the three links above) tend to meet GNG; 2) Try not to cite unreliable sources in your articles--in my experience as a new page reviewer, more sources attract more scrutiny. A well-sourced article with just 3-4 references is better than an articles with 20 sources that only has 2 that are reliable. 3) Most blogs or online magazines don't fact-check and thus, are generally treated as unreliable.

If you're confused about how to move the page once it's rewritten, hit my talk page! And let me know if you have further questions.

@Citrivescence: thank you! this is tremendously helpful. I'll spend some time re-writing it w/ just the reliable sources. Nyeboah (talk) 20:58, 16 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

I have sent you a note about a page you started edit

Hello, Nyeboah. Thank you for your work on Norberto Roldan. User:Netherzone, while examining this page as a part of our page curation process, had the following comments:

Thank you for creating the article on this Filipino visual artist. The article looks great, and I had two thoughts on how it might be developed. If one or two additional museum collections can be found, a section on collections could be added. Also, if there is a copyright free image of him or a representative sample of his work can be found, that would be nice for our visually oriented readers. Thanks again for the article.

To reply, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Netherzone}}. Please remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. (Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.)
