Viktor Belenko

Hey, thanks for adding the info on MiG Pilot to this article. It's been in "Further reading" for a long time, but I never noticed it wasn't in the text itself, which it obviously should have been, given that Belenko is a co-author.

However, I got a notice "Your edit on Viktor Belenko has been reverted by Nthep." This suggests to me that you used undo or rollback to add your text, i.e., using undo or the like on my prior edit to bring into the editor the faulty text produced by the IP editor before me, and then replaced the IP's unsourced text about a possibly spurious unpublished book, with your sourced passage about the different, verifiably published, book. If that's what you did, please don't do that; it generates the spurious revert message to me, and includes my edit in the statistics as an edit of mine that was reverted (suggesting my edit was vandalism or otherwise inappropriate). A better way would have been to simply edit the section to add your new unrelated text.

Thanks! TJRC (talk) 22:45, 7 April 2015 (UTC)

@TJRC:, I only came across this article as the IP editor got in touch via OTRS to questioning your removal of their additions. Once we discussed the reason for this was the lack of sourcing and in the case of the unpublished manuscript whether that is even a notable event then the issue is resolved. That set me off looking for a source for MIG Pilot other than Amazon or Goodreads etc. I must admit I did use undo because the text I mostly wanted was in that reversion, I forgot that the use of undo triggers a notification (I don't know why I get loads of my own) but I did make sure that I didn't use the default edit summary which I think is more damming in being misinterpreted as a vandalism flag. So apologies for triggering the notification. Nthep (talk) 08:34, 8 April 2015 (UTC)
No problem, and thank you x 3 for: explaining the trigger; working things out with the IP editor; and improving the article by adding the MiG Pilot book. TJRC (talk) 15:10, 8 April 2015 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for April 9

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Pateley Bridge railway station, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page North Eastern Railway. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

A new reference tool

Hello Books & Bytes subscribers. There is a new Visual Editor reference feature in development called Citoid. It is designed to "auto-fill" references using a URL or DOI. We would really appreciate you testing whether TWL partners' references work in Citoid. Sharing your results will help the developers fix bugs and improve the system. If you have a few minutes, please visit the testing page for simple instructions on how to try this new tool. Regards, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:47, 10 April 2015 (UTC)

Stoke-on-Trent Notable People Revision

Thanks for your comment. I added the new section (now removed) because the article includes well-known residents in some fields, but not others, in a random way. I think that ideally the whole page needs reorganising with regards to how the notable people of Stoke-on-Trent are presented. Also, I didn't realise that there was a separate page on notable people of the city and haven't been able to find it since, so it's not very obvious. What is it called, please?Snoobysoo (talk) 16:08, 27 April 2015 (UTC)

The page on the city doesn't, imo, need reorganising in respect of notable people - it just ends up in edit wars over who is more notable enough to be on the main page. Anything over and above what there is, if appropriate, gets added to List of people from Stoke-on-Trent which is linked in the navbox at the bottom of the page. Any rubbish, and believe me I've seen plenty over the years, just gets deleted. Nthep (talk) 16:38, 27 April 2015 (UTC)
Yes, I completely understand the problem of notability wars. Having said that, notability within the Stoke-on-Trent article is dependent upon, by chance, being notable in a section already included, for example entertainment and music. So there is a large random element, which seems to be an illogical way of deciding notability. However, I will accede to the removal of my proposed section (my list in which was intended just as a starter for others to add to). The List of people from Stoke-on-Trent does indeed seem to be pretty comprehensive, though, obviously, it's not straightforward to find.Snoobysoo (talk) 18:03, 27 April 2015 (UTC)

Stadium edits

Dear Nthep, I will add more information to the stadiums soon. I almost added all the missing Chinese football stadiums, and after that I will add more information. I'd like to add references, but as you can see on my talk page on my IP 88.159.127.4, I am not allowed to use the reference to worldofstadiums.com anymore. One moderator said it might be spam, but it's just adding references to the pages/information I add. World of Stadiums is the only site I know with this information, but unfortunately I can't use them as a reference anymore. Maybe you can talk with User:Philg88 about this. Kind regards. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Groundhopping (talkcontribs) 14:14, 29 April 2015 (UTC)

Point taken, but you need to ask yourself, is the stadium really notable if the only reference to it is a dubious website? Nthep (talk) 14:41, 29 April 2015 (UTC)

Edward Adrift

Can you please move this back to my personal space? This is not vandalism, it is me trying to write an article which is still under construction.

I wish to edit this article in peace. The nominator has been harrassing me recently and I have the right to non-jnterference while this is in my userspace.-MacRùsgail (talk) 16:55, 15 May 2015 (UTC)

Not now it has been nominated for deletion (as per #4 of WP:USERFY#NO). You can continue to work on the article in mainspace while the deletion discussion continues. If the result is not to keep the article then I will userfy it for you at that point. Nthep (talk) 16:59, 15 May 2015 (UTC)

Kempthorne Docklands

Thanks for the edit to Stoke on Trent removing a strange link. I have concerns about the entire article concerning "Kempthorne Docklands", and I would be interested in knowing what you think about it. I have placed my concerns on its talk page.  DDStretch  (talk) 10:57, 24 May 2015 (UTC)

Draft:عبدالجليل الأربش

Hi Nthep. Regarding the above, the procedure for translating articles applies to those in the mainspace only, not drafts. For what it is worth the page is a memorial to somebody killed in the explosion described in the linked article--Jac16888 Talk 21:59, 3 June 2015 (UTC)

Franklin Road Academy

Nthep. You suggested that I setup a sandbox for review on a page. I've done so and was wondering if you could review and approved. My sandbox is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Comptonsteven/sandbox/Franklin_Road_Academy Thanks in advance. Steve [[Comptonsteven (talk) 03:38, 24 June 2015 (UTC)]]

@Comptonsteven:, this looks to be pretty much the same as you amended the article to be. I'm sorry to say it still reads like an advert - for example the number of times it says "we . . . " and it is completely unreferenced except to the schools own web site and social media outlets. Does it help if I remind you that Wikipedia is for articles about subjects, not by them. What is needed is what other have written about the school, not what the school says about itself. Nthep (talk) 14:55, 24 June 2015 (UTC)

Nthep, I agree with some of what you are saying. However, please consider that according to Wikipedia, that it's purpose is to benefit readers by acting as an encyclopedia, a comprehensive written compendium that contains information on all branches of knowledge[1]. What I'm trying to do is to make sure that what is on the page is a factual reflection of the programs and academic makeup of the school based on the idea to provide such knowledge (much like an encyclopedia). I actually made the original Wiki page years ago and a lot has changed in the makeup of the school since that time. This is consistent with other schools on other WikiPedia pages and just contains facts about the makeup of the academy. So, I hope I'm not too far off. I hope you consider again this viewpoint. 17:13, 25 June 2015 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Comptonsteven (talkcontribs)

Steve, I agree with the purpose but this has to be backed up by establishing that information presented is written in a neutral tone, non-promotional and is verifiable by reliable, authoritative and independent sources. Your draft doesn't really manage any of these and it mostly a rehash of the school's website. While the website is ok to use as a source for a limited set of information e.g. straightforward factual information like the location, principal's name it should not be used as a source for anything else. To put the objection in it's rawest state - for every claim made on the page, verify it with a citation from a reliable, independent source. Otherwise all we have is the school's own opinion of itself which is almost inevitably biased - consciously or unconsciously. Nthep (talk) 16:34, 26 June 2015 (UTC)

@ArvinKH: The moment the logo was created also created a copyright on it, copyright registration is not necessary in most countries. As it has been published on a website, evidence is needed that the copyright holder(s) agree to it being used elsewhere. Please see WP:CONSENT for the process to follow to enable this. Image swap

Hello. You have deleted a low-res version of File:Zhejiang Television.png, but I think the current hi-res one is unnecessarily large. It only needs to be clear enough for use in the article infobox. Please could you restore the original and delete the newer version instead? Cheers. Green Giant (talk) 09:51, 9 July 2015 (UTC)

Hi, sorry about that - Iwas processing a huge backlog of F5 deletions so I wasn't really studying the detail. I agree the current version is far too large for a non-free logo but I also think the original is too small. I've put the image on a bot list to reduce which should occur in the next couple of days.
