Please Use Edit Summaries

edit

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field. If you are adding a section, please do not just keep the previous section's header in the Edit summary field - please fill in your new section's name instead. Thank you. Paramount Theatre (Anderson, Indiana)

edit

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Paramount Theatre (Anderson, Indiana), and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://andersonparamount.org/about/history.htm. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot 05:00, 25 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Gruenewald House

edit

A tag has been placed on Gruenewald House, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the article and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. From Indiana

edit

You are doing a great job in expanding the Indiana connections in Wikipedia, and I see you've put a great deal of time and effort into it. I would encourage you to look at the pages you are adding categories to, as some of them are in dire need of editing and cleaning up.

We do seem to be at odds over of what the phrase "from Indiana" consists. I really think, by definition, a person from Indiana is either a native who is born there, grew up there, or made a substantial contribution to the state in living there. Because a person worked briefly in Indiana in radio, went to college in Indiana or has appeared in Indiana based theatre does not make them "from Indiana" or qualify as an "Indiana" anything. Therefore, I don't think a few of the persons you've placed in the category of "Indiana actors" belong there: Kevin Kline, Cynda Williams, George Peppard, and Jack Paar. I know there is at least one website that note these people because they attended school in Indiana, but that doesn't mean they are connected in any "roots" kind of way to be identified as part of the state. Also, while two of the Lane Sisters were born in Indiana, the others were not and did not live there, so they can't really be included as a whole. Wildhartlivie 07:48, 5 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Is there a particular reason why you are being so childish and immature in your response to a good faith criticism of a few additions you made? Removing all of your links isn't appropriate and most likely constitutes edit warring, which could get you banned from Wikipedia. I was not insulting, demeaning or belittling to you in the note I left. In fact, I opened it up with a sincere compliment on all of the work you have done. My only criticism was in the addition of people who are not Indiana natives or contributors, other than having passed through. Your response is really inappropriate. Wildhartlivie 04:20, 6 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
I'm afraid you are mistaken. I removed the Kevin Kline link, which you then returned. After you did that, I responded on this talk page in an effort to discuss that with you. And that entry on this page was not out of line in any way. You didn't respond to it whatsoever. And so, 14 hours later, I removed the links for the 4 persons whom I mentioned above. That is hardly removing them as you are adding them, since you added, then removed, scores of links to the category.
What you are not allowed to do on Wikipedia is direct a personal attack toward another editor, which is what you did when you used the edit summary of "since Wildhartlivie is the arbiter of all things Indiana I am removing the links I added." That is inappropriate and unacceptable by WP policy. As far as my personal perspective on it, it was childish and immature. It's regrettable that you have chosen to end your time on Wikipedia, but that is a choice that you are making. No one is forcing that upon you. However, if you can't accept good faith criticism, or good faith questioning of your edits - which is a daily occurence on here - without responding as you did, perhaps it isn't the place for you. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
