Do you have a question? -- Luke (Talk) 21:28, 19 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Yes, thanks! I'm completely new here, but there is an article about me (Tim Rishton) on the site. I'm not desperately keen on it (I think it was put there by some of my students) - maybe you could tone it down a bit? - but at any rate since it's first there it could perhaps do with updating a bit. For obvious reasons I don't want to start editing it myself. Main update is that the Director of Studies post at Lancaster in the UK from 2005 that is mentioned in the article lasted until 2009, when I bought a remote farm in a Norwegian valley and returned to concert playing as well as some visiting teaching at various Norwegian universities.

I don't think there'd be much objection to you doing that edit, so long as you can give a reference. Unfortunately, you don't count as a reliable source. (Nor do I when discussing me and my doings...) Look at WP:RS, and make sure you stick to WP:NPOV and don't promote the joys of living in Norway, or the quality of the wool from your sheep (or whatever). It's when, for example, pop singers try to edit out their time in rehab, their 16 children and the conviction for benefit fraud that we get a bit twitchy. I'll leave the helpme up in case of an other opinion. (space intended) Peridon (talk) 22:09, 19 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
I would add to add a note who you are on the talk page (as it suggests in the first paragraph at Wikipedia:COI#Overview) - editors will prefer someone who is open. Actually the bit about Lancaster University (just down the road from me...) is not referenced, so you could if you want, remove it as unsourced. As Peridon says keep to referenced data - a quick Google threw up http://www.recordedsound.no/english/about_us/staff/development.php, http://www.rscmbradford.org/tim.html, http://www.classicol.com/Organ/About.cfm?ID=2171, http://www.concertartist.info/organ/consultants/tim.html - maybe there's something there that can be used as a reference. Obviously don't use you own web site as reference if you can help it. Personally, I'm not keen on the "see also" section as they are not links. There are three external links - I would question the second and third - maybe use something from them and reference them. Link#1 is your official site and has the right to remain.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 00:29, 20 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
