Speedy deletion nomination of Northern lights (rap group) edit

Thank you.

A tag has been placed on Northern lights (rap group) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. AlexHOUSE (talk) 16:58, 19 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Northern Lights edit

Hello. Regarding the deletion of the article you recently created-- there are a few guidelines for the creation of articles here on Wikipedia, and they can be confusing at times. The main issue with the Northern Lights article is that while it may well be an actual hip-hop group, they do not appear to be notable enough to merit inclusion in the encyclopedia. Notability goes hand-in-hand with reliable sources, as they establish the subject's importance in the first place. Generally, the subject must be covered and talked about extensively in reliable, independent, third-party sources like newspapers to be considered notable. In the case of Northern Lights, the only sources provided were from a local newspaper and two blogs. The other main issue with the article is that it appeared to be written by someone with a close connection to the subject (you), which creates a conflict of interest. The best thing to do would be to wait for the Northern Lights to become more well-known, and when they are, a Wikipedia entry is bound to be created on them. Go ahead and read the links I've provided, as well as this guide to creating your first article. If you have any questions at all about anything, please don't hesitate to ask me either here or on my talk page. Thank you, and welcome to Wikipedia. AlexHOUSE (talk) 18:54, 19 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
