Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Lynn valley elementary

I didn't delete Lynn valley elementary, User:Od Mishehu did; it clearly says that at the top of the AfD discussion page. Since I'm not an administrator yet, I can't actually delete pages. All I did was place a speedy deletion tag on it, and an admin deleted the page because it seemed to meet the criteria for speedy deletion (see WP:CSD). The page did not assert notability (see WP:N), so I felt that it was a valid candidate for speedy deletion. As for the page being deleted in only 90 minutes, let's just say they call it speedy deletion for a reason.

Deletion discussions at AfD are supposed to be closed after a page has been deleted. Since User:Od Mishehu deleted the page but forgot to close the discussion, I did it for him. Again, I did not actually delete the page in question. If you think that the page shouldn't have been deleted, please feel free to take it to deletion review, and/or talk to User:Od Mishehu. That's okay, you just made a simple mistake, and I can see how you would think to ask me since I'm the one who closed the discussion. List of mammals

Lists of organisms use "of" (on a broad scale. I haven't taken the time to move the IUCN bot-generated country "in" lists yet), be it birds, plants or mammals. See Wikipedia:Featured lists#Biology and medicine for examples. Circeus (talk) 17:04, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

I take Featured Lists as a basis for the names, and the fact that organisms overall are in "of". The only reason that lists in Category:Regional mammals lists mostly have "in" is that they were generated by bots (from the IUCN red list data) into these improper names and nobody has had the courage yet to mass move them to their proper location. As you can see, all the organism featured lists use "of", except for bird of subnational entities, which use a "List of foo birds" format (I'm not sure why, though). Hey, thanks. I'm too humble to nominate any of my own articles. As for the cacti. . .I came across them a few years ago & assumed that they had been planted there as someone's idea of a weird joke. . .but then I found out that they grow as far north as Cape Cod, the northern limit of their range. I think the rest-stop you are referring to is the one that abuts the north side of Higby Mountain. Just north of Meriden? That has to be it. The First Cathedral

I don't have any other contributions to wikipedia other than The First Cathedral and its directly related articles, even those I've had to fight from being deleted. it just seems like its not meant to be.

suggest Merger not deletion

Hi Noroton -- You notified me that you had tagged Connecticut Hall (Yale University) for deletion because it duplicated Connecticut Hall. Thanks for identifying the duplication. They should be merged. You can see that there are references in the tagged one that are not in the other. I or the authors of the other page could merge the material, assisted by a merge tag on one or both places. So please put a merger tag on it, instead, and take away the delete tag. I will get to assisting with the merge, but I don't like to have the delete threat over my head. This has happened a few times with NRHP sites before, sometimes I have been the one identifying a duplication, and I have always seen it processed perfectly smoothly by a merger tag. Also, it is not your fault but there are some other delete processes which have been thrust upon me recently that were unpleasant, one being an unnecessary RfD whose outcome was Keep eventually; I don't like to have this one added to what begins to look like a rap sheet on my "record" too right now. You replied that you would remove the delete tag and you did, thanks. But then added it back! Could you please just remove it? The merge tag suffices. Also, the merger is not too terribly hard but it is not that simple either. There were other differences between the articles, too, that i didn't see at first and mention. Well I didn't say I don't like it, but you just copied what I, and others wrote, and made it look like you did all the work on the new page. If you plan on expanding the new page, then I wouldn't have any problem, but right now it is the same thing. What do you mean by "undo weight"? Isn't the history section suppose to be pretty long? I see you have done great work improving the List of museums in Connecticut. As you may be aware, this article was recently separated from List of museums in the United States. Yes I noticed that one had developed -good work. If you can get them all into the tables eventually I;d like to see all of the states look like this. I already put more work into them than I had intended and I hope others will use the iniative to develop them like Connecticut. I've put my share into them -I hope others will format the others like I did to about half of the states. As for where you could find a list of high schools I'm uncertain -perhaps you could google several of the High School districts in the state or something and see if they have any related documents which could be used an an official source to build the list. I'd be more than grateful if you help develop the other museums lists though like Connecticut. It makes wikipedia look rather poor if it only mentions one or two when there are hundreds. My god they're gonna make a hash of those museum lists -I thought date founded was important too . What is the point in a list if it doesn't provide some sort of summary or information -wikipedia isn't a directory -I;m glad you agree -it kinda worries me with what some peoples ideas are. Sortable tables. Just start with an empty table and build it up and enter whatever you want (each|| represents a column divide so enter the info between the pillars):

Thanks for your nice feedback. You've done a tremendous job organizing the museums in CT. I saw the sortable list for Alabama, which is great, although I don't like to pictograms for the type of museum. I agree that County should be added to your table, as well as directions for sorting at the top of the page.

I am working on creating pages for some nature centers in CT, but I often find a link in one place leads me to add links to other places. I find myself pulled in many directions! I read through them, and still can not get over the feeling that the library's mention in the articles is mostly trivial. However, I have reviewed several library AfDs and see that merging libraries into their town's libraries is somewhat common. I would not be opposed to this and am going to say so on the AfD page. US Museum discussions

That's great that you are adding to the museums in Maine and Rhode Island. I think the sortable columns layout offers more information and is flexible so that visitors can sort the way they like it, so I feel that the ME page is more useful than the RI page. Defunct museums cats

Thanks for taking a look at the Defunct Museum cats issue. I probably jumped the gun by drilling down on those cats. I also think adding the defunct museums on the bottom of the state pages as you have done is a good spot. Right now, I don’t support a separate page for them though. I think users would be better served if they were incorporated in some way with the main lists of museums. Thanks & I appreciate your dialogue on the museums. Museum lists inclusion criteria

Your rewrite of the inclusion section looks good. See what you think of the General Information section I added to Talk:List of museums in Alabama and the last paragraph on defunct museums.

What about aquariums, planetariums and zoos? If we do not address this, they will be added over time. This was an issue we faced before. I know it should get some more comment on the discussion page, but guidance should be added one way or the other.

Lastly, I think “regions” in many cases is unclear & very subjective, potentially opening up the page to issues going forward unless we clarify what the regions are in advance. Counties are more definitive. I don’t have a strong opinion on this, I’m just war gamming out how I think these pages will develop over time & anticipating problems.

Thanks, I'll start doing it then. By the way, as to the regions: I'd like to try them out. If there's a disagreement about regions, it seems to me it can be solved simply by listing the counties that are in each region. If regions are vague, I don't see that as a major problem, because I don't think it will cause major confusion. Any reader really confused can look up the town link, which often comes with a little map (at least they do in Connecticut) or maps are available on the web. The "region" is named just to give people an idea that certain museums are in the same general area. If needed, it wouldn't be too difficult to list the Alabama counties that we could put in each of the regions I name in that listing. My intention is to leave the "region" column empty in most states and maybe someone from that state would fill it in. I might fill in the equivalent of "Birmingham area" for major cities in a state, but again, I don't see vagueness as a problem initially, and if it becomes a problem I think it can be worked out. Connecticut Museums

I found this website you might find interesting: www.ctmuseumquest.com This is one guy's quest to visit all of the museums in CT. There are over 300! He's written some very entertaining articles about his trips so far, along with great photos. (Most of these museums should post photos like his on their sites!) Museums Lists

I have no preference for regions anywhere but in CT where people are familiar with counties, so please use whatever system seems best to you. Each state has its own way of grouping areas that I am unfamiliar with. As for photos in the museum listings, I like them because they add interest to the article, but they are not necessary and can go if they take up too much space. Let's leave them in for now. Old Jail Museum

It seems redundant to add a List of jail and prison museums when the Old Jail Museum disamb basically served the same purpose (disamb's are lists). It seems to me that Old Jail Museum could have been modified to serve whatever purpose you were looking to accomplish. I created a series of redirects to the Old Jail Museum page to ensure it encompases all jail and prison museums. Hi. Thanks for your comments on my wordings at the Mantanmoreland ArbCom workshop. I hope that the first point of my reply to FloNight covers your concerns - I am deliberately using fairly harsh language and suggesting only draconian measures to enable the committee to determine what sort of support this promotes, and how responses like yours might temper them... That isn't to say that I am anything but sincere in the principles and solutions I have proposed, but they were not written to be adopted in that style or tone.

I respect the mature approach you seem to have taken to our clear disagreement, and I especially value the kind words you left on my talk. It's always reassuring to know that even though as individuals we disagree with each other on the merits of issues and content (even to the extremes), we can still agree on process as Wikipedians 100%. This is exactly why this pedia concept works so well; I know there are dozens (perhaps hundreds) of talk conversations going on at this exact moment in spaces just like this one, and because we learn we can trust each other, I feel I need to worry about content less, and just trust the editors like you and I at the pagespace. I have respect for what you've said, and though we do disagree, I value the clash of ideas which engenders our trust more than I value being right. I won't lie. I stopped reading a few days ago, intentionally, just to take a break. You're right, it *does* feel better when one stops beating one's head against a wall. I had started on a (much more NPOV) review of the Naked short selling page but have been swamped with real life, and to be honest I rather doubt it will make a difference. A lot of the POV editing is extremely subtle in this article, almost impossible to detect unless one knows the subject. I rather doubt The is helping matters much with his edits; I'm finding the article more confusing now than it was before, and he is certainly no subject matter expert. I cannot help wondering if more obvious POV would come out of the other articles.

In any case, I have responded to your BLPE1 message, both on my page and at the notability talk page. Thanks for keeping me in the loop; it's probably one of the few reasons for deletion that I pursue fairly rigorously. Risker (talk) 04:03, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

One Event

Thanks for letting me know about the discussion on the shortcut. I'm not actually fussed about the matter, but since it was proposed that One Event should be moved from policy to guideline I've thought that Gorgan almighty was right, but nobody has been pushing it forward so it has largely been left to me. I don't know the full history of the section, but it does appear to have been contentious from the start and it's place on the BLP policy page appears to be more by the will of a few than the consensus of the community. Wikback commentary

You know, I've done commentary like this in the past (at least you did it off-wiki and not in the middle of the discussion or on the talk page, as I think I did many months ago). Running commentary like this is funny (I remember now, it was Giano's arbcom bid and his talk page that I did a commentary on), and I'm sure when I did this, it was funny as well. But I've since concluded that it doesn't help (though I'm sure I too will do it again). It gives the impression of juveniles playing a game. I know that this is not the case (though the mob rule accusation is less easy to discount), and there are many grown adults participating in these discussions, and that people of all ages can be humourous, but some degree of gravitas is needed. The link in question was one of dozens inserted by a role account: an intern working for a museum, and adding external spamlinks to some new publications of the museum he/she worked for. Art and Social Issues

Good work on this whole sad/silly mess (I agree about the Cadmus item, as you may have noticed). However, your language, "You can make edits that support your interest in getting out the word about valuable museum holdings and programs, but not to the extent that WP:NPOV is violated." could be misinterpreted by our over-eager young intern as permission to spam, because he/she means well. Just letting you know I did some work on articles related to Danbury in the last few weeks, mainly as a result of several trips there with my son in December.

• Meeker's Hardware — created, DYK with photo on Main Page.

• John Rider House — created, photo added to Danbury Museum and Historical Society as well.

You can thank my son for the rail stuff ... he's the railfan. Actually, I hope I can get back to Danbury and reshoot Main Street with blue sky and green leaves ... I hate that ugly snow at the edge of the street.

Those photos were all taken on three separate weekends in December. I had promised my son we'd go to the Apple store at Danbury Fair the weekend after Thanksgiving, and that led to the mall pics. Then after that we went downtown to see the Metro-North station, and that got us that pic plus the Railway Museum. I promised him we'd return when it was open, and we did that two weeks later. It's a very kid-friendly place. I took Meeker's then as the light was better, and Main Street. Finally we came back to see the Metro-north station again once after Christmas, and that's where I got the Rider House (in low light, but Photoshop took care of that).

We passed through again on our way to Rhode Island over President's Day weekend (I wanted to finish doing the county high points of that state (having finished Connecticut's several years ago, and he wanted to go to the Kingston station to see Acelas whizzing by. He's also a big Family Guy fan (well, so am I), and wanted to find Quahog and maybe meet the Griffins. So we spent a night in a hotel outside Newport, and did all these things ... as well as taking whatever pictures of National Historic Landmarks in Newport that we could. Not perfect conditions for it (Bellevue Avenue will have to wait), but at least the parking wasn't problematic.

On the way back, we got one CT NHL for that list ... Capt. Nathaniel B. Palmer House in Stonington. I'll add that when I get to it in my photo backlog.

Another county highpoint opportunity coming our way means that we'll be going across Southern New England again next month (Pine Hill, the highest point in Cape Cod, is on a National Guard base behind a firing range, so someone got together a huge trip by negotiating access with the base (used to be easier before 9/11), and we'll also be able to get Manomet Hill in Norfolk County (on the property of a nuclear plant).

So it occurs to me that, if it's greener and nice then, we can get some more CT pics. I'm thinking Waterbury (which we pass through on the way) could really use a photo showing that view from I-84 ... everyone crossing Connecticut that way knows it. Main Street Historic District (Middletown, Connecticut) also could use a good contemporary photo (I was thinking, last time, I wonder if this is a historic district, and lo and behold it is). And it might be possible to get a good roadscape of CT 9 (a highway which, if it were your first impression of Connecticut, you'd think it was as sparsely populated as northern Alaska).
