Ranking in 2012 European Men's Handball Championship edit

Hi

Is there an official source for the final ranking in 7-12 places? An anonimous editor has switched HUN and POL between 8th and 9th, presumably because POL has a better record than HUN. Is that right??--Nitsansh (talk) 01:28, 26 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi. There are still not official rankings for 2012 Euro. But if they rank teams in the same way they did before (as shown on European Handball Federation website) Hungary should be ranked ahead of Poland. It doesn't matter that Poland won more points, because Hungary finished fourth in their group. Hungary is compared only to fourth placed team from group II (Germany), and based on points they are awarded 7th or 8th place in competition. Nightfall87 (talk) 10:11, 26 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Regulations sometime change between championships, although it's rare... unless there is a RS that says otherwise, I think we better stick with the rules as they were last time we know...--Nitsansh (talk) 12:25, 26 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Maintenance of Portal:Current events/Sports/Sidebar edit

Hi Treki

Thank you for helping with the maintenance of the sidebar. However, it's very important to make sure that events are listed in the day-to-day section before deleting them from the sidebar. If you are short of time or don't know how to do that probably, it's OK for me if you just copy the sport and the event headline, exactly as it appears in the sidebar (excluding the dates).--Nitsansh (talk) 17:39, 2 February 2012 (UTC)

OK, thanks. I forgot day-to-day section.Treki (talk) 10:56, 3 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
Also, it should work in reverse direction. If you add a multi-day event to the day-by-day section which is not included in the sidebar, it should be added there (latest example: 2012 European Futsal Championships). And another small correction: the dash (–) character should be used to seperate dates rather than minus (−).--Nitsansh (talk) 13:46, 3 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Current events/Sports edit

Hi, I'd say a revival of that page is a must. I wasn't very much familiar with the lay-out and such, so I haven't added any information on there yet, but I have been working on something similar in my own user page in May and the first part of June. I stopped the daily updates as soon as the Euro 2012 started, but with the calendar I created information from June could be easily added to the list. I'm thinking of creating the July calendar soon as well. Please have a look at May 2012 and June 2012. LindaSportGirl (talk) 00:22, 25 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi Linda.
Listing by sports and listings by dates are completely different layouts... it will take a lot of work to do the transformation... I was used to the day-to-day format, and if you want to change that it will take some time to adjust... I'm not sure I have the time this summer with the Olympics and all that... (BTW, I will be in London for the second half from Aug 5)--Nitsansh (talk) 00:31, 25 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
WOW!!! I'm really impressed... your calendar is more comprehensive that we did, and you do it all by yourself!!--Nitsansh (talk) 00:34, 25 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the compliment. I didn't realize you answered here :) I know the layout is different than the original. I think both layouts can work so I have nothing against a date-by-date layout either. However I think my layout, specially the June one is more reader friendly. What do you think is possible? I mean I'd like to keep doing this anyway and with a little bit of help it will only be better. By the way, I have the same issues as I will be in London for the whole Olympics and will be unable to edit around that time, but that should not be much of a problem afterwards. LindaSportGirl (talk) 09:35, 25 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
Besides the Olympics I have other things that keep me busy during the summer, so I can't promise to be available for this... I feel I'm not ready to take responsibility...
BTW, what are you specifically going to London for? Maybe we have tickets to the same events... I have 9 events on my calendar between Aug 5 and Aug 10, but will remain in London until the last day (Aug 12)... my "shopping cart" includes 3 athletic sessions, and one each in beach volleyball, artistic and rhythmic gymnastics, football, volleyball and basketball... it's quite pricy as you can imagine... with flights and accomodation it will exceed 3000 Pounds...--Nitsansh (talk) 15:29, 25 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
Wow very pricy indeed... I am not going for anything specific and I don't have any tickets for any of the events. I just want to be there and have fun with all the people from all over the World watching sports and sharing the vibe. I am going to watch the Games on big screens, in pubs etc. Gonna be amazing for sure :) LindaSportGirl (talk) 17:54, 25 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
It appears that's what I'm gonna do on the last weekend when I have no tickets... maybe I'll attend open events like the marathon... what neighborhood will you be staying for most of the time?--Nitsansh (talk) 18:09, 25 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
I'll be staying with a friend in an area called Elephant or something like it. I have to check all the details more closer to departure. She says it's quite easy to get to the city from there. I was indeed also planning to go to events like the marathon, race walking, cycling etc. Where are you from yourself? LindaSportGirl (talk) 18:45, 25 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
Elephant and Castle. I don't recall exactly but it's on the south east side of London, not too far from the center.

I come from Israel. Arrive around noon Aug 5, depart around midnight Aug 12. Will stay 4 nights at a hotel in Kensington/Earls Court (that hotel is part of the deal) and 3 nights at another hotel in Bayswater. None is near your place. Won't have much of a free time on the first six days, but have 11-12 Aug without any plans yet... At the time of booking, back in late Feb or early March, there was no way to get "good" tickets without a package deal, because there is only one agency that has the right to sell tickets, and they clearly exploited their monopoly... so it was a take it or leave it situation... I decided to take it... who knows if I'll have another opportunity for this, and it probably won't get cheaper in the future...--Nitsansh (talk) 19:10, 25 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Yeah exactly the reason why I want to go. I'm still young so probably opportunities will be there in the future, but as I am from Holland the distance is almost nothing. Then I have a friend living there, so why the hell should I not go for it, even without tickets? I dunno how it will go by then, but perhaps we could meet one of those days. I bet there will be plenty of people around to have fun with, so we won't be having problems finding the fun, but we might be in the situation to meet, let's see what the future brings. LindaSportGirl (talk) 19:54, 25 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
Did you try to get tickets or didn't? I wouldn't go without a good batch of tickets...--Nitsansh (talk) 21:14, 25 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
BTW, I have a long-time friend who lives in London but he is going away, and has his house renovated at that time... --Nitsansh (talk) 21:14, 25 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
No, haven't tried getting tickets at all. But that gives me the chance of staying during the whole competition instead of just a week or so. LindaSportGirl (talk) 21:58, 25 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
And I, on the other hand, split the Olympics to two halves: First half, watching on the TV at home and maintaining normal life as much as possible... second half, enjoying a close encounter with the Olympic experience...--Nitsansh (talk) 08:39, 26 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
Yes of course, not a problem at all, time will tell how I will watch future Olympics, but this one will be like this :) LindaSportGirl (talk) 09:52, 26 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

dashes edit

Hey, what's the difference between one dash and the other and how do you get the one that you are using? LindaSportGirl (talk) 17:38, 2 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

See the code: - – — Nitsansh (talk) 17:48, 2 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
OK, thanks :) LindaSportGirl (talk) 18:05, 2 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hey I will be away sat-sun-mon, so don't be scared if I haven't updated anything on those days :) How do you think the revival is going so far? LindaSportGirl (talk) 20:11, 6 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Too good... by this rate we'll get to 500KB per month...--Nitsansh (talk) 20:14, 6 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
I hope that's not a problem :) LindaSportGirl (talk) 21:28, 6 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
Yes, it is. Big pages load very slowly.--Nitsansh (talk) 09:19, 7 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
