Hi, Lily, and welcome to both Wikipedia and INF1001! If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page. Here are some pages that you might find useful:

If you're new to U of T, the best cheap, fresh coffee is at the Campus General Store across the street from Bissell (80 cents if you bring a mug), the great halls in University College and the Hart House library are the best and most serene places to read, and the two most important people to get to know at the Faculty of Information are Christine Chan at the front desk, and Aida, the cleaning lady.--Gabby.resch (talk) 04:46, 22 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Survey edit

Hi Nikasho!

I have put together a survey for female editors of Wikipedia (and related projects) in order to explore, in greater detail, women's experiences and roles within the Wikimedia movement. It'd be wonderful if you could participate!

It's an independent survey, done by me, as a fellow volunteer Wikimedian. It is not being done on behalf of the Wikimedia Foundation. I hope you'll participate!

Just click this link to participate in this survey, via Google!

Any questions or concerns, feel free to email me or stop by my user talk page. Also, feel free to share this any other female Wikimedians you may know. It is in English, but any language Wikimedia participants are encouraged to participate. I appreciate your contributions - to the survey and to Wikipedia! Thank you! Modernization of Investigative Techniques Act edit

Hey Nikasho! Per your request, I've reviewed your recent edits to that page. In general, it looks good. I'm especially pleased that you've included good references - that's something that many newer users omit. You've got the basics of wiki-coding down (although generally we use '''text''' for bold text, and place footnotes after punctuation, but neither is a big deal). I think the citation formatting could be better, as you seem to be doubling the URL. Have you tried the RefToolbar? It might make formatting a little easier. Content-wise, the article seems a bit top-heavy at the moment - you might consider moving some of that material into the article body. But other than that, great start! Hey Nikasho, As you know, I'm the other 1001 editor of this article. I think our changes were good. Previously it seemed like the entry just kind of ended abruptly, so I think we've updated it a bit. I know it's still an issue, but I guess it's not necessarily something that people have been monitoring. I had only skimmed the article before your changes, but I think they contributed. I was looking at the page statistics and there don't really seem to be a lot of watchers for the article, and it's been viewed 156 times in the past 30 days, which to me doesn't seem like a lot--looking at a couple of other random articles, 156 views is really low! It will be interesting to see if/when the article is updated if/when legislation is re-introduced...honestly I questioned whether there was much point in talking about my Bills since they're all dead anyway, but they seemed to be considered important at the time. Anyway, please let me know if you have any thoughts on my contributions as well. Thanks! Schmikath (talk) 17:41, 29 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hi Nikasho, As per your request, I've consulted some of the TAs for the course. The consensus is that students should ensure the project banner is placed on the talk page (which you guys have done) to encourage feedback from the broader WP community. Worst case, if you were to get no feedback on your edits, you could always reflect on this in your paper. That said, it is understood that I should hold off on providing comments/revisions as it could be construed as sort-of "pre-marking" the assignment. Of course, you can always contact community members who have previously edited the article, WP online ambassadors (which you appear to have done), or even WP mods. I think you guys are definitely on the right track...Gabby.resch (talk) 18:11, 29 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
