The Voice of the Wetlands Allstars

edit

The Voice of the Wetlands Allstars were founded by Tab Benoit and his longtime manager Rueben Williams.[1] The group first assempbled at Piety Street Studios in New Orleans for a recording session that was planned to spread awareness that Louisiana's coast was disseappering. The session was attended by notable New Orleans band leaders in New Orleans attended the session at Piety Street Studios at 728 Piety Street for what amounted to a summit meeting of Louisiana's Music superheroes. Tab Benoit, Dr. John, Cyril Neville, Monk Boudreaux, Anders Osborne, George Porter Jr., Johnny Vidacovich, Johnny Sansone, and Waylon Thibodeaux were joining forces and they called themselves the Voice of the Wetlands All-Stars.[2]

"“What we’re looking at here,” said Benoit, gesturing at the flat grassland stretching off into the horizon outside of the runway, “is the new Atlantis. Out there are the places where people lived that don’t exist anymore. Indian burial grounds that don’t exist anymore. I’ve watched the land I grew up on here in Houma literally disappear. Places where I used to go to camp out don’t exist anymore. The house where my grandma and grandpa lived in is underwater. You have to take a boat to see where it was. It’s like people take a boat out to see where Atlantis used to be, and that’s going to be us.”[3][4]
