Removing Speedy at Albert Nico edit

Please do not remove speedy deletion notices from pages you have created yourself, as you did with Albert Nico. If you believe the page should not be deleted, you may contest the deletion by clicking on the button that says: Click here to contest this speedy deletion, which appears inside the speedy deletion notice. This will allow you to make your case on the article's talk page. Administrators will consider your reasoning before deciding what to do with the article. Thank you. - SDPatrolBot (talk) 06:19, 5 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Message| Hi, i am very new with Wikipedia, pardon my lack of knowledge and understanding. I am facing quite a number of difficulties. Including not even knowing how to leave a message correctly here on the Talk page. I seek your help desperately as i am writing an article now for my boss. My username is nicoeditor, my article is for the wiki page Albert Nico. I am facing the 'Speedy deletion' button and i cannot remove. I can't afford to remove the page Albert Nico too. Please help. thank you so much. Nicoeditor (talk) 06:24, 5 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Before creating an article, you should familiarise yourself with the following policies:
Your current article is massively promotional, laden with with peacock terms and utterly non-neutral. In addition, it contains no reliable sources (blogs, YouTube and the subjects own website are not considered usable). You clearly have a serious conflict of interest regarding Mr Nico, since he's your boss, and so you probably should not be the person to create this article at all. A better approach would be to lodge a request at Articles for creation, so that another, uninvolved editor can create the page. Yunshui  07:50, 5 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi Yunshui, thank you for your guidance. I am actually a freelance writer, and i was asked to write this for Mr.Nico, of course using the term boss is because I am unfamiliar oh how to address him when in need of guidance from other fellow administrators. However, i would like to seek more of your help. I would like to recreate the article for my client, as they are relying on me to do so. How may i recreate while making sure that i stick with the rules? How may i avoid any conflict of interest attempt or avoid giving the impression used for promotional. I can assure you that my client did not request this for advertisement/ promotional. Do help, thank you so much. Nicoeditor (talk) 08:06, 5 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

You should probably add Wikipedia:Paid editing (essay) to the reading list above, then. Once you have read the links, I would suggest doing the following:
  • Create the article via WP:Articles for creation. This will mean that it will be reviewed - several times, if necessary - by experienced editors before going "live".
  • Confine yourself to reporting only information that has been reported in reliable sources, as defined here. Do not add information from Mr Nico himself or from his website, unless it has been published in such sources as well. If his rags-to-riches life story hasn't been covered in some sort of book, newspaper or magazine, it doesn't belong here. All the information in the article should be verifiable.
  • Avoid any phrases that might be considered to promote the subject. For example, your last effort included statements such as: "...his passionate spirit and cutting-edge style," "His creative hairstyle collections have become an inspiration... his flair for style & beauty," "[he] has successfully positioned himself as the hairstyling trendsetter that creates styles that enhances individuals’ beauty from within," "...Nico is famous for his knack in matching one’s personality with a hairstyle that is elegant, sleek, stylish, chic & sexy," and that's just in the first paragraph. This sort of writing is utterly unacceptable in an encyclopedia.
  • Don't add external links to any websites other than Mr Nico's official site (presumably www.albertnico.com), unless they are being used as sources. That means no links to his facebook page, the Malaysian Hairdressing Association, his book, etc.
  • Finally, ask yourself honestly what your motivation is for writing the article. If you genuinely think that it will improve Wikipedia to have an article on Albert Nico, go ahead. If you're writing it because he's asked you to, or because he's paying you, or because you want to see your work appear on Wikipedia, or for any other reason than a wish to improve the encyclopedia, then stop.
I hope the above is helpful. We welcome professional writers, but the writing style required here is quite specific, and requires careful adherence to the guidelines. Yunshui  09:48, 5 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi again Yunshui, thanks for your help. I genuinely think that people would want to know about Mr.Nico, he has an interesting career story that i am very certain would inspire the young generation. Mr.Nico is a very talented individual who has strive with very little education, to where he is now.

I wish to be able to write the article. Therefore, i would appreciate it if you can guide me step by step. As a writer, i do not want to give up easily in writing this. I am a person who supports creativity, and i really wish to be able to share Mr. Nico's story with the rest, just like how reading Vidal Sassoon's story on Wikipedia has inspired me. I have corrected my writing based on your comments in a draft document. Kindly guide me how i can about posting up for FIRST only for review until it is fully approved for publishing on Wikipedia. If you suggest that i should create my own account as a writer to write for Mr. Nico, please advise. Thank you so much. I really appreciate your help. Hope to hear from you soon.

PS: I am interested to learn about Wikipedia's writing style. I don't mind letting you review Mr. Nico's content for starters and learn from you.

Thank you.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Nicoeditor (talkcontribs)

The best place to start would be Articles for creation; you can use the Article Wizard to create a page there. I'd suggest, as a first step, assembling all of the sources you intend to use in creating the page. Ensure that they are independent (i.e. not affiliated with Mr Nico), reliable (usually taken to mean that they have some editorial oversight, so no blogs, facebook pages, YouTube videos or other usergenerated content; no op-eds or rumoursites; no wikis) and that they contain significant coverage (i.e. more than just a passing mention; they must actually say something about Mr Nico rather than just mentioning his name). Good sources would be: newpaper articles, magazine profiles, books (as long as they aren't self-published), news websites and so on. Everything in your article will need to be drawn from these sources, so you'll need to gather enough to support everything you want to say. If you'd like me to review them for you before you start, list the sources you propose to use (with links so I can read them, obviously!) on this subpage of your userpage - leave me a message on my talkpage when you want me to take a look. Best, Yunshui  10:28, 5 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Oh, and if you'd like me to look over your current draft, you can always post it as a userdraft here. Yunshui  10:30, 5 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
One final thing. Whilst I'm more than happy to help you get your article together, I do have quite a lot of pages on my watchlist - yours is among them, but I may not immediately notice when you make changes or comments here, since I'm involved in quite a lot of other Wiki-activity. If you need to draw my attention to a reply here, go to my talkpage and place the text {{talkback|Nicoeditor}} at the bottom of the page; if I'm online, I should be able to respond within minutes. Message| Hi Yunshui, thank you again for guiding me. I have pasted my draft for you to see under my user draft and also the proposed source. I have made a lot of amendments according to your comment. Anyways, i am okay with removing the sources if it is needed to be removed. I am more concerned about the main content. Thank you so muchNicoeditor (talk) 01:01, 6 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi Yunshui, have you managed to check the userdraft page and the source page? Anyways, i would like to give the article wizard a try. Nicoeditor (talk) 06:04, 6 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi Nicoeditor. I've gone through User:Nicoeditor/First draft and added commentary (in red), hopefully this will help. Another page for your reading list (sorry to keep throwing these at you!) should be words to avoid - as a writer, you're probably used to using hyperbolic statements, but as a rule of thumb, casual positive adjectives are usually a bad idea in encyclopedic writing. Yunshui  07:21, 6 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Hi Yunshui, i am so glad to hear from you! i have been anticipating your reply all morning, so eager to make corrections. =) Thank you. i shall look at it now. Overall, do you think its alright to be published though? I am having doubts about it actually. Was thinking to not publish this at all =(Nicoeditor (talk) 07:30, 6 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Hi Yunshui, I have edited it according to your comments. My message is in blue. I hope i am on the right track because i really did alot of editing, and even research for sources as much as i can. Nicoeditor (talk) 06:05, 7 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Hi Nicoeditor. The page is looking much better, you've done a good job bringing it in line with Wikipedia norms. I've added further commentary, particularly on the sources. Many of them are just passing mentions, and some duplicate information, so they are probably not all necessary (it's neither required nor appropriate to list every source that mentions the subject by name). That said, there seems to be enough here (between the RedCarpet profile and a couple of the Star articles) to scrape past the notability requirements, so I think you probably should go ahead with the article. Nice work.
To save you having to go through all this again with Articles for creation, let me know when you're happy with the page and I'll move it into article space for you (making it "live"). Other editors will probably start making changes to it fairly shortly after that. It's important to remember that anyone can edit Wikipedia, and that by saving the page you automatically give permission for anybody to change and reuse your work under a CC-BY-SA licence - you don't own the page just because you started it. I mention this not because I've seen anything in your behaviour that might suggest you'd have a problem with this, but simply because a lot of new editors don't realise that their work is likely to be changed, and many get annoyed when it is!
Once again, my commendations on the good work you've done on the page, and thank you for being willing to adapt to Wikipedia's way of working, rather than trying to impose your own. You'd be surprised how many people refuse to do that! All the best, Yunshui  07:40, 7 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Hi Yunshui, thank you so much for your reply. And for actually checking my work. And thank you too, for the compliments; its a unique experience for me actually. As stress as it can get editing on Wikipedia, but i am very thankful that i have the chance to learn. Believe it or not, just few months back, i was wondering about how people write/edit on Wikipedia. =) Thank you again for your guidance, i am glad that you were willing to guide me through all the way. Thank you for your patience most of all. I can't thank you enough. haha. Yes i would be glad that you can help me move it into article space and making it live. I have not slept well for two days just thinking bout this, and working on it at night. I understand that others would be editing it shortly, i don't mind cos i know it is all part of it. i leave it to the experts and will continue to learn from them. let me know when it is live. Also, how do i add his picture in? Nicoeditor (talk) 08:16, 7 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Btw, do i remove the remaining sources No.5, 6, 7?Nicoeditor (talk) 08:24, 7 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
No, I'd keep them in. They don't count towards notability, but they do serve to verify that he's been a judge for various competitions. If you're happy to go ahead with the move to mainspace, say the word and I'll make it happen. Yunshui  08:50, 7 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Pictures are trickier. First, you need a suitable image - this must be a picture that either a) you have taken yourself (and therefore own the copyright on) or b) has been released under a suitable free licence (CC-BY-SA or GNUFD) by the photographer or copyright holder. You can't use media images or pictures from a Google image search - the copyright status must be verifiable. If, as is suggested above, you are in contact with Mr Nico, I'd suggest you take a photo of him yourself to upload.
Once you have a suitable image, you can upload it to Wikimedia Commons. To do this, follow the steps at the Commons upload wizard. You'll need to create a Wikimedia Commons account first.
When the image has been uploaded, you can add it to the article by pasting the code [[File:nameofimage.jpg|thumb|right|Albert Nico]] onto the page. Yunshui  08:56, 7 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Hi again. Yes i am ready for this to go up live. =) thank you so much. But i really do want to upload his photo. I will try to get a photo of him that has not been published before. I will also create an account first on wikimedia. But i would like to only upload the photo on the infobox. How do i do that?Nicoeditor (talk) 09:47, 7 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Okay, it's now in mainspace at Albert Nico. As regards adding an image to the infobox, just add the line | image = nameofyouruploadedfile.jpg to the infobox data (currently the image field is blank). Yunshui  10:03, 7 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
For more help with images, see the picture tutorial. Images and their usage are quite complex areas of Wikipedia, so there's a lot to take in. If you need help, just drop me a line. Yunshui  10:05, 7 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Hi Yunshui, you've been very helpful to me. Thank you so much for uploading it. =) I shall give it a try myself on uploading it on Wikimedia first. and i'll get back to you.Nicoeditor (talk) 05:12, 8 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
I just uploaded it myself. Is this okay? =) Do check.Nicoeditor (talk) 05:29, 8 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
File sourcing and licensing look fine to me, and you've added it to the infobox correctly - all good, as far as I can see. Nice work! It's not half bad for a first article (my first attempt was atrocious by comparison...) Yunshui  17:35, 8 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
That's because i have your guidance. I can't thank you enough. I am glad that its all good now. Thank you once again. I am pretty sure that in future there will be somethings that needs to be updated, or changed. If so i will seek your advice once more. Therefore, we shall keep in touch. =) Thank you so much Yunshui.Nicoeditor (talk) 04:14, 10 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Removing Speedy at Albert Nico edit

This is your last warning. The next time you remove a speedy deletion notice from a page you have created yourself, as you did at Albert Nico, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. - SDPatrolBot (talk) 06:28, 5 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

A barnstar for you! edit

What the hell, I reckon you deserve an award for taking the trouble to completely redo your work in line with Wikipedia's requirements. So few editors do; working with you on this has been a rare pleasure. I hope you'll stick around and create more articles in the future. Yunshui  17:40, 8 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
