Hello again!

On the bot's user page it says that this task is run twice-monthly but I think that only applies to the article namespace. Would you mind running the task in the file namespace twice-monthly as well? Thanks!Jonteemil (talk) 21:56, 7 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hello!
When/if the task is run in the File: namespace again, can you please include this query? It will simplify this regex: /(==Licensing==\n+\{\{Non-free logo\|image has rationale=yes(\|auto=yes)?\}\})\n+== Licensing ==\n+\{\{Non-free logo\}\}/ to /$1/.Jonteemil (talk) 11:46, 14 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Jonteemil: The list now contains both main namespace and File: namespace. I've just generated it again and I'm running my bot to fix the simplest cases. It should be done twice a month from now on. I don't use regex for detecting the problems, I'm just detecting consecutive headings with the same title. The pages listed by your query seems to be also listed by my bot, so it should be ok. --NicoV (Talk on frwiki) 05:45, 19 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
Awesome! Thanks :)Jonteemil (talk) 06:04, 19 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Flagpole TOCs only? edit

  Resolved

This change seems a little odd.

Are we supposed to have flagpole TOCs only?

HandsomeFella (talk) 11:51, 17 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

@HandsomeFella: In MOS:HEAD and MOS:GOODHEAD, it shows that no title level should be skipped and that the first title should level 2 (and not level 3 with later a level 2). So this change applies these recommandations. --NicoV (Talk on frwiki) 11:56, 17 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
Oh, I completely missed that it started with a level-3 header. Thanks. HandsomeFella (talk) 11:58, 17 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Heading double edit

  Resolved

Hello!

I found this in File:Maroon 5 - Sad.ogg:

== Licensing ==

{{Non-free audio sample}}<!-- Template:Music sample info -->

== Licensing ==

{{Non-free audio sample}}

which should be reduced to just:

== Licensing ==

{{Non-free audio sample}}<!-- Template:Music sample info -->

Can this be implemented for similar duplications?Jonteemil (talk) 15:28, 5 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thanks Jonteemil. I think this is already implemented, except for the categories at the end of the second section. I tracked it on Phabricator. --NicoV (Talk on frwiki) 17:11, 5 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
Awesome! I also found this file: File:NYC Montage 11 by Jleon.jpg. Why hasn't the bot removed its heading double?Jonteemil (talk) 20:11, 5 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
Hi Jonteemil. This is because there's a title inside a template: some automatic fixing are disabled in such situation to avoid strange problems. --NicoV (Talk on frwiki) 07:19, 7 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
I see, thanks.Jonteemil (talk) 20:31, 8 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Question on edit done by WikiCleanerBot 19 edit

Dear NicoV,

according to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Bots/Requests_for_approval/WikiCleanerBot_19 , you are the operator for WikiCleanerBot 19.

I would like to understand the following edit made by the bot: Special:Diff/973483089

Previous version: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Supersymmetry_algebras_in_1_%2B_1_dimensions&oldid=954892645

The edit messed up the hierachy. See the previous version for the intended hierachy. Was the section formatted incorrectly, such that the bot misunderstood how the hierachy is supposed to be? In that case, I would appreciate some advice how I should format the page.

If this was a malfunction of the bot, should I just undo the edit? How do I prevent this from happening again?

Kind regards, EduardoW (talk) 15:02, 8 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi EduardoW. Thanks for the notification. This is apparently a bug in my tool: I think my bot didn't understand the first two titles because each one is on 2 lines instead of one usually, so the first title it found was the third one which starts with "===". I reverted the bot edit, and slightly modified the article to avoid the problem happening again. --NicoV (Talk on frwiki) 15:10, 8 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
== <math>\mathcal{N} = (2,2)
</math> algebra ==

==  Subalgebras of the <math>\mathcal{N} = (2,2)

Thank you! EduardoW (talk) 20:08, 8 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

4,000+ bogus image option fixes! edit

  Resolved

It looks like your bot just finished fixing 4,000+ bogus image options. That should be over half of all of the errors in article space. Well done! – Jonesey95 (talk) 03:01, 12 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi Jonesey95. I'm surprised it's only 4,000 edits, I was expecting more given the start on the dump analysis. If you see other cases that could be fixed automatically, tell me (  Done I think I already have to add doubled alt= without value). --NicoV (Talk on frwiki) 09:48, 12 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
  Done Looking through what is left, the most common possible bot-fixable error seems to be three-digit numbers, like "250", which should be "250px", like this. I don't know if there are false positives where that would not be the correct fix. I think there are a few hundred of these. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:49, 12 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
  Done Also, many additional misspellings of "right": righjt, righr, right1, right2, rightl, righy, rignt, rt, align=right, reght, righty, rightg, rihgt, rigjt, rght, righte, ribght. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:55, 12 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Hi Jonesey95. I added several automatic modifications : doubled alt=, 3-digits numbers, several misspellings, a few unused options (like "default"). I will run again the bot and see what the result is. --NicoV (Talk on frwiki) 11:56, 13 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Hi Jonesey95. Bot is currently running over the entire dump, so it should be done in a few hours  . --NicoV (Talk on frwiki) 06:22, 14 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
It looks like the bot did another 700 edits. There appear to be about 4,800 errors left in the category. That is a significant improvement from the 17,000 that were there two years ago. I think most of the rest need to be done one at a time. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:21, 14 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Cleaner bot edit

  Resolved

Hi, this edit appears to have no exactly, uh worked out, lol. No idea what the issue is here so I thought I'd bring it to your attention. Aza24 (talk) 06:58, 18 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thanks Aza24 for the report. My bot made this edit because the image has 2 "upright=..." parameters which is an error. My mistake is that for multiple "upright=..." parameters, it seems that MediaWiki uses the last one and not the first one as it does for other parameters... I will modify my bot's logic to remove the first one. --NicoV (Talk on frwiki) 07:42, 18 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Aza24, I changed my bot, seems a lot better. --NicoV (Talk on frwiki) 07:46, 18 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately, image syntax has many quirks. I documented this one at mw:Help:Images: If both upright and upright=number are present, the first upright will be ignored. See task T216003 for details. The notes I have added to T216003 list more upright-related bugs. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:09, 18 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thank you! edit

NicoV Thank you for cleaning up my article. :-) LorriBrown (talk)

WikiCleanerBot edit

In this edit, it seems to me that it should've been covered under task 12 - moving it outside the link. Instead, the bot covered it under task 8 - which removed the comma. I think the comma removal here is likely okay, but I'm not sure this is intended behavior so I figured I'd report. If it is intended, it likely shouldn't be, because editorial decisions such as comma or no comma probably shouldn't be made by a bot. Regards -bɜ:ʳkənhɪmez (User/say hi!) 15:45, 28 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi Berchanhimez. It didn't remove the comma, it moved it after the link: [[Edzard Ernst|Edzard Ernst,]] => [[Edzard Ernst]],. --NicoV (Talk on frwiki) 15:50, 28 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Doh... apologies. Just noticed that on the computer - mobile diff was acting up again I guess and cutting off the side of the screen the replacement of the comma. Sorry to bother. -bɜ:ʳkənhɪmez (User/say hi!) 15:55, 28 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Punctuation inside/outside links edit

What is the thinking behind moving punctuation outside links, as in the recent edit to the Vorticism article? OK, the punctuation isn't part of the name of whatever is being linked to, but having the link symbol appear before the punctuation looks just plain ugly (IMO): like putting a reference number immediately before punctuation, which I don't think any publisher would tolerate.Radavenport (talk) 16:55, 3 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi Radavenport. This is because the punctuation isn't part of the name like you said. This style is used by every cite template ({{cite web}}, {{cite book}}, {{cite news}}...): punctuation is after the external link, not inside. --NicoV (Talk on frwiki) 19:14, 3 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
Hm. I can't help thinking that the same logic would have a reference cue for a quotation coming before the closing quote mark, but I don't want to give people ideas and I'm not going to try to take on the collected Wikipedia cite templates.Radavenport (talk) 21:02, 3 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Wrongly moving commas edit

How do I prevent the bot from making an incorrect change? In Glory of the Seas (clipper), this punctuation in the table is correct: January 16[reference2] or 18[reference1], 1874. The bot keeps moving the comma to between the 18 and the reference. The reference is for the 18 alone, not for the whole "clause". It also does this for a second, similar, entry in the table. Craigthebirder (talk) 13:53, 14 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi Craigthebirder. According to WP:REFPUNCT, moving the reference after the comma seems correct, event if it only applies to the last part. But if you want to prevent the bot for doing again this modification, simply add a HTML comment (<!-- -->) between the reference and the punctuation. --NicoV (Talk on frwiki) 14:12, 14 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
Done, thank you. Craigthebirder (talk) 17:15, 14 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

punctuation/references edit

  Disregard

WikiCleanerBot seems to be changing articles to place the references before the punctuation, while the MOS says after. It’s changibg a lot of articles. Peter Flass (talk) 19:42, 17 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi Peter Flass. Do you have any example of such incorrect edits? Because it's doing the opposite right now, it's putting references after the punctutation, according to WP:REFPUNCT. --NicoV (Talk on frwiki) 19:53, 17 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, my error. Sometimes it's a bit hard to see the change. The bot is correct. Peter Flass (talk) 20:26, 18 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Is there a strong case for changing a reference before comma to a reference after? If the reference is bound to the preceding words, then the reference should be bound to those words, and not fall the wrong side of the comma. Moving a reference after the full stop is more acceptable, since a full stop denotes the end of a sentence, and is not a delimiter between two clauses.Chumpih (talk) 17:32, 26 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Actually, I now see MOS:REFPUNCT. It's OK. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chumpih (talkcontribs) 17:37, 26 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

The Citadel edit edit

  Disregard

Thank you for helping keeping wiki accurate and factual. The bot recently changed the description and classification of The Citadel from “public” college to “military” college. This edit is incorrect and misleading. The school is clearly a public college offering many degrees (undergraduate, graduate, and online) and varied programs, including a “military” program. As such, the school (same as Norwich) should be classified as a public college. Many thanks for your time and consideration.99.203.17.142 (talk) 14:52, 25 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thanks IP for your message, but you're mistaken... My bot never changed the description and classification of this article, it fixed a duplicated reference (the same reference used twice at the same place). I think you meant this edit which has been made by Pdino, and absolutely not by my bot. --NicoV (Talk on frwiki) 15:44, 25 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Bug report edit

This bot edit just de-italicized half of a word: strongylo-phyllus (with a soft hyphen) is now strongylo-phyllus. Please fix the bot. - Dank (push to talk) 16:08, 3 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

NicoV: It looks like {{shy}} simply inserts a character between the two parameters, so the syntax {{shy|''strongylo|phyllus''}} is fine. Can that template be excluded from the bot's code? – Jonesey95 (talk) 16:30, 3 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Hi Dank, Jonesey95. This case is probably very rare, and it's because the template was incorrectly used: see {{shy}} documentation, which clearly states that instead of doing this {{Soft hyphen|''ital|icized''}}, the template should be used like this: ''{{Soft hyphen|ital|icized}}''. --NicoV (Talk on frwiki) 20:45, 3 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
(I just created that documentation because of this problem. There appear to have been two other pages with this potential problem, and I just modified both.) – Jonesey95 (talk) 20:46, 3 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Hi Dank, Jonesey95. I've modified WPCleaner to prevent automatically closing the italic/bold in a template parameter if there's another italic/bold in the template. Maybe at a later time, I will see if can apply this restriction only to a limited list of templates. I still think the {{shy}} template is misused (the italic should be around it, not split between the parameters) and I also think the syntax ''strongylo{{shy}}phyllus'' should be preferred. --NicoV (Talk on frwiki) 10:10, 6 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I'll use your suggestion of ''strongylo{{shy}}phyllus'' in future articles. - Dank (push to talk) 14:40, 6 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
