You're doing good work edit

Despite the plethora of warnings on your page, you appear to be doing some wonderful work on articles about clerics, churches and dioceses. Keep up the good work. Just remember, you can't copy pictures from elsewhere to Wikipedia except under fair use criteria, which basically state that you can use a low-quality image here if the image is critical to understanding of the subject, and there is no possibility of creating or obtaining a license-free image. For living people, this last part is the sticking point -- since it is generally possible (not easy, necessarily, but possible) for someone to obtain a new, unlicensed image of the living person, it can't be argued that no license-free image is obtainable.

Other than those issues (file copyright issues are among the stickiest here at Wikipedia), keep up the good work. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 22:25, 31 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Yep, I see your name several times in my watchlist when you are adding templates on articles I wrote about bishops. Keep up the good work. Sincerely, Taketa (talk) 01:32, 1 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Speyer Cathedral edit

Just to let you know that when you add a huge lengthy box to the top of an article, it displaces everything else on the right side of the article. The pictures that are carefully aligned with the first section get shoved down the page where they don't belong , and the article looks very much worse than before the box was inserted. If/when you insert boxes, you always need to look at the pre-box layout, and then see what effect your edit has had. It might be fine. On the other hand, it might be ghastly. Don't bother putting anything into a box that is fully dealt with elsewhere, for example, if the building's specifications are listed under the architecture, then don't put them in the box. If the name of the bishop/clergy, are in the first paragraph, then save the space. Also, don't ever give a "completion" date for any medieval church. You are likely to be out by five or six hundred years. You can put a completion date on most Renaissance buildings and things like the Parthenon which are completed to a certain style.

AJM's advice to new editors edit

  • Look at the article to see how it is laid out. The Table of Contents is the best place to start.
  • Read the article to see if what you want to add or remove is appropriate, necessary, or adds value.
  • Search for the right place to put it.
  • Check Use the "Show Preview" to make sure that what you have done is appropriate and correct.
  • Discuss any change about which you are uncertain, by placing your proposed text, or just a suggestion, on the talk page. Someone who watches the article will usually answer in a day or so. You can monitor this by clicking the watch tag at the top of the page.
  • Be aware
    • that an addition inserted between two sentences or paragraphs that are linked in meaning can turn the existent paragraphs into nonsense.
    • that a lengthy addition or the creation of a new sub-section can add inappropriate weight to just one aspect of a topic.

When adding images

  • Look to see if the subject of your image is already covered. Don't duplicate subject matter already present. Don't delete a picture just to put in your own, unless your picture is demonstrably better for the purpose. The caption and nearby text will help you decide this.
  • Search through the text to find the right place for your image. If you wish it to appear adjacent to a particular body of text, then place it above the text, not at the end of it.
  • Look to see how the pictures are formatted. If they are all small thumbnails, do not size your picture at 300 px. The pictures in the article may have been carefully selected to follow a certain visual style e.g. every picture may be horizontal, because of restricted space; every picture might be taken from a certain source, so they all match. Make sure your picture looks appropriate in the context of the article.
  • Read the captions of existent pictures, to see how yours should fit in.
  • Check the formatting, placement, context and caption before you leave the page by using the Show preview function, and again after saving.
  • Discuss If your picture seems to fill a real identifiable need in the article, but doesn't fit well, because of formatting or some other constraint, then put it on the talk page and discuss, before adding.
  • Be aware that adding a picture may substantially change the layout of the article. Your addition may push another picture out of its relevant section or cause some other formatting problem.
  • Edit before adding. Some pictures will look much better, or fit an article more appropriately if they are cropped to show the relevant subject.

Don't be discouraged! Have fun!

ArbCom elections are now open! edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Catholic-Hierarchy.org edit

Hello. I noticed that you have edited a number of articles on Catholicism. A discussion is taking place as to whether the website Catholic-Hierarchy.org is a reliable source that can be utilized on Wikipedia or whether all references and information derived from it should be deleted. This topic is currently being discussed at the Reliable Sources Noticeboard [2]. As the website's removal as a reference will affect several thousand Wikipedia articles, I believe that the broadest range of opinions should be obtained before action is taken. Image without license edit

Unspecified source/license for File:Nativity Church in Fort St Angelo.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Nativity Church in Fort St Angelo.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by MifterBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. --MifterBot (TalkContribsOwner) 19:45, 11 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

You marked this old black and white photo as "own work" but I think that's a mistake. Please tell me where the image is from, as I've looked for ones Wikipedia can use of John Allin. Jonathunder (talk) 17:35, 3 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Some of your other uploads are also marked "own work" in error. It would be great if you had taken this photo of Bishop Browning, as I've tried hard to get one we can use, even to the extent of contacting his family. Where did you get that image? Jonathunder (talk) 19:10, 3 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
This photo of Bertil Werkström appears to have been taken in or before 1993, when he was still the Archbishop of Uppsala. Jonathunder (talk) 19:17, 3 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
And this photo of Giovanni Maria Camilleri, who died in 1924, is certainly not your own work, yet that's how you marked it. Many of your uploads will probably be deleted. Before you upload any more, please be certain you are clear on what "own work" means. Jonathunder (talk) 19:25, 3 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi and thanks for your messages. I am quite aware that these images are old though I am in receipt and own hard copies of these images. Infobox Christian leader edit

Hi NickGeorge1993! I see you have changed a number of infoboxes from "type = priest" to "type = dean". Dean is not a valid option for that parameter. As per Template:Infobox Christian leader#Basic usage, Priest, Bishop, Pope, Cardinal, Antipope, or Coptic Pope are the valid only options: Bishop is the default. This parameter controls the colour of the heading, and is not a detailed description of an individual's current role. Unless they have been ordained as bishops, all deans will be "type = priest". By changing it to "type = dean", it has defaulted to bishop and therefore changed the colouring to a bishop's infobox. Thanks, Gaia Octavia Agrippa Talk 11:56, 4 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

On a side note, deans of Oxbridge chapels do not use the title "The Very Reverend" as they are not deans of a diocese. They would use "The Reverend" or a higher title is granted (eg Canon) or also Fr/Mthr/Dom etc if a religious. Because of this, I reverted your edit to Harry Williams (priest). File permission problem with File:Publio M. Sant.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Publio M. Sant.jpg, which you've attributed to https://www.metropolitanchapter.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/bishops-of-malta-05.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 13:07, 21 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Image source problem with File:Bertil Werkström.jpg edit

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:Bertil Werkström.jpg.

This image is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such images would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a screenshot of a computer game or movie. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original image must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright.

If you have uploaded other derivative works, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F4 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 07:57, 25 July 2020 (UTC). If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Lokal_Profil 07:57, 25 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Navigation edit

Hallo, Thank you for creating Craig Anderson (bishop) . When you create an article like this with a "disambiguated" title, please make sure that the reader can find it from the basic name (ie Craig Anderson ), by adding or expanding a hatnote, or adding the article to a disambiguation page. This helps the reader to find your article, and also reduces the chance of a future careless editor creating a duplicate article with a slightly different disambiguator. I've fixed this one. Thanks, and Happy Editing. PamD 08:44, 23 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image File:Archbishop James Scanlan.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Archbishop James Scanlan.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 17:20, 22 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use File:Hallgrímur Sveinsson.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Hallgrímur Sveinsson.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 16:24, 25 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Kathryn McCrossen Ryan edit

Hello NickGeorge1993,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Kathryn McCrossen Ryan for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly indicate why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998) edit

Hello, I have seen that you are a featured librarian here on Wikipedia. I have discovered through the reliable source American Film Institute that the movie "I Still Know What You Did Last Summer" (1998) is a co-production between the United States, Germany and Mexico, however when I add the information it is removed because I'm not a Wikipedia librarian. For this reason I decided to write to you in the hope that you add the true information that I mentioned and which you can verify, within the "countries" category in the "I Still Know What You Did Last Summer" fact sheet. 201.168.135.194 (talk) 05:18, 24 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
