User talk:NickDupree from December 30, 2005 to July 3, 2011

Great to hear from you.

Nick, thanks for the kind words. Always good to hear from a fellow Alabamian. I was looking through your user page and I must admit I'm quite impressed with your achievements. If you ever need any admin help here, or need anything else, please drop a line. Best,--Alabamaboy 14:39, 30 December 2005 (UTC)

Yes, I'd love to work together on some articles. At the moment I'm already booked--another user and I are working to create Culture of the Southern United States, which we'd love to have another collaborator on. But once that's done I'm game for more articles. Best,--Alabamaboy 16:48, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
Been to Mobile a number of times. In fact, I usually spend a week each year across the bay from Mobile in Gulf Shores. Please do check out the culture article. It's still pretty bare so anything you can add is welcome.--Alabamaboy 16:56, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
Excellent additions to the article. In fact, the only critique I have is to ask if you have any references for some of the added info. I know what you added is correct but it would take the article to the next level if we added some references. BTW, do you know how to use inline references? If not, check out African American literature, an article I wrote that uses them. I can help add them if you have any. If not, no big deal. Thanks, --Alabamaboy 14:00, 31 December 2005 (UTC)

Oh yes, I thought what you added was really good. In fact, it was great. Best,--Alabamaboy 01:13, 1 January 2006 (UTC)

Re: History Portal

Hi Nick. In response to your query: Not at all. The selected article and picture have been set to rotate monthly up until the month of April. Feel free to add new features after the queue, although please follow previous formats (no thumbs, etc).--cj | talk 11:04, 31 December 2005 (UTC)

See Portal:History/Featured article and Portal:History/Featured picture for upcoming features. It works similarly to Wikipedia:Today's featured article.--cj | talk 11:13, 31 December 2005 (UTC)
There's no need to apologise. Sometimes my edit summaries can be terse, and give the wrong impression (oops). I'm very happy to see new interest in the portal. Happy editing, :)--cj | talk 11:29, 31 December 2005 (UTC)
Actually, scratch that info about the references at African American lit. There's a new Mediawiki citation style. It's described at m:Cite/Cite.php. It works in much the same way as the ref/note template does, but it automatically generates your reference section for you. You can see an example article at Symphony No. 5 (Beethoven). I'm going to study this and implement it on the southern culture article. You might also want to check it out. Best,--Alabamaboy 16:20, 31 December 2005 (UTC)

Culture of the Southern United States

Hi Nick. At the Talk page in Culture of the Southern United States, there is a long discussion about whether to include a quote from a 1917 article about tobacco chewing in the south. Is tobacco chewing an important aspect of southern culture? Please weigh in. Griot 19:23, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi, love your input into an accessibility wiki site

Hi Nick,

I came across your user page and I thought i'd drop you a line.

I've just created a new website called AccessibilityMapr.com. It's an idea I had for a worldwide disability access map that's user generated and maintained. It's only in its early stages, but I'm looking for people who are both interested in disability issues and have experience with user-generated websites (like Wikipedia).

If you have time to drop by the site and our forum, I'd love your input. Can you suggest how I could improve it and how I can attract contributors?

Cheers

Re: Hashshashin

Hello, thanks for your message. You are correct about the Hashshashin article, it is in dire need of help. My main concern in my edits has been to clear out, and keep out, all the trivial "pop culture" nonsense that does not add to an understanding of the subject. But, yes, we have to deal with the lack of references. I will do some looking around and see if I can recommend some good sources. Cheers! ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 01:00, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

You're welcome. I agree with your current plan of action. Please let me know if, and how, I can be of help. ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 02:22, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
I will let you know what I find. ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 02:56, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
One book you might want to look for is Peter Lamborn Wilson's Scandal: Essays in Islamic Heresy, a book praised by William S. Burroughs: "Fascinating material on the Ismaili sect and on Hassan i Sabbah... the only spiritual leader who has anything significant to say in the Space Age." ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 02:59, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
Yes, I've grown quite tired of the "pop culture" brigade, who are more than happy to add trivial information to articles, without citations, but never offer anything constructive. I like the work you've done with the article. I am still looking for good sources online, which are scant. ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 14:45, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

Rod Blagojevich Merger Proposal

I just noticed your comments regarding my merger proposal with respect to the Rod Blagojevich article and its two related articles. If you feel that merger should have been implemented already, I urge you to be bold and implement the merger. --TommyBoy (talk) 00:12, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

I just got your message on my Talk page, User:TonyTheTiger raised similar concerns regarding article length in his comments on the merger proposal, I am starting to think that it might be better to allow the three articles to stand alone, but eliminate redundant points in the three articles, which is the main problem I am trying to address. --TommyBoy (talk) 11:35, 15 August 2009 (UTC)
Following up on our earlier discussion, Rod Blagojevich gubernatorial administration has been merged with the main article on Bloagojevich, but the Rod Blagojevich controversies article will remain separate, per the discussion on the issue. --TommyBoy (talk) 00:43, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

Kangxi Emperor

I've just been tidying up Kangxi Emperor and I found that references "Mantienne", "Manteigne" and "Les Missions Etrangeres" are mentioned in Kangxi Emperor#Notes but not given in full anywhere. Can you provide those details? AWhiteC (talk) 16:32, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

Moroccan Jews

Hey, what ever happened to merging the "History of Moroccan Jews" into the "Moroccan Jewry" article? I just read your comment from back in 2009, I tihnk it's a great idea, please let me know. Picman14 (talk) 13:52, 17 March 2011 (UTC)

Ming Dynasty

Hi Nick. Sorry, I have no time to talk with you or discuss this. I am currently a Peace Corps volunteer serving in Kyrgyzstan. Feel free to parse things down a bit in the history section, but please, be nice to my baby! It took a long time to bring that article to where it is right now.

Cheers.--Pericles of AthensTalk 06:05, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

Hi again Nick. I trust your judgment on what to cut, reword, keep as such, etc. Thank you for committing to this. I'm not sure why no one has taken the initiative to start a History of the Qing Dynasty article. If I had the time, I probably would have pursued it, but I don't have time for anything like that anymore! Cheers buddy.--Pericles of AthensTalk 07:16, 28 May 2011 (UTC)

can you do this

I have a year old Wikipedia:Contributor copyright investigations/Дунгане on copyvio violations that I committed a year ago. Can you help clean it up, since alot are part of the wikiproject china? (like checking one edit per day, not anything massive in a short time, or even one edit every three days, at least someone will be working on it)

you are relatively unconnected to me, no previous encounters other than your message on my talk page, so there won't be a question of neutrality or whether you are covering up for me, I just want to get the investigation going and done.ΔΥΝΓΑΝΕ (talk) 22:13, 14 June 2011 (UTC)

I want to help but am unclear what to do. Can you please talk to me privately through one of the IM services with the screennames listed at the bottom of my user page? --NickDupree (talk) 22:56, 14 June 2011 (UTC)

So I hadn't seen your name around before, or at least I don't remember. Then you reviewed Empire State, noting it was your first review. To double check that your succinct review was respectable, I checked out your user page. Not only was I satisfied with your review, but I spent some time reading your page. I was floored. I offer you some well-deserved kudos for your life's work. Not sure if you hear that as often as you should, but well done. You are an inspiration to many and make those of us that take for granted the ability to walk, talk, and breathe on our own reconsider the good fortune we don't realize we have. I just felt the need to say that after reading your bio. upstateNYer 04:39, 27 June 2011 (UTC)

Thanks. I'm satisfied seeing Empire State disappear from the Good article nominations list. If there's anything else I can do to help out, leave me a note here. NickDupree (talk) 04:54, 27 June 2011 (UTC)

Mediation

Hi Nick. First of all, I had no idea about your history (only just saw your userpage) so I have a lot of admiration for how you approach life, and Wikipedia. As for the mediation, per our IRC discussion I've added you on to the case as a co-mediator. Feel free to pop me a message on my talk page about what you want to do here and your thoughts on the case, or feel free to add your comments onto the case, under the "mediator comments" section. Will be good to work with you. Steven Zhang The clock is ticking.... 12:28, 29 June 2011 (UTC)

DYK of Gorno-Altai Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic

It is now:

DYK eligibility scan results: (See here for details.)

  • Prose size (text only): 2520 characters (401 words) "readable prose size"
  • Article created by Σ on June 28, 2011
  • Article moved from User:Σ/Gorno-Altai Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic on July 3, 2011
  • Assuming article is at 5x now, expansion began 29 edits ago on June 28, 2011
