January 2021 edit

  You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Five Star Movement; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. An edit war requires two people and you could have also started a discussion on the talk page. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 17:37, 4 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

@CambridgeBayWeather: You are right, I should have started a discussion, but the other user have deleted a long-established and well-documented version, only asserting that "Italians know better about their own country", this is a disruptive edit. Moreover, other users thanked me for my edits, so I thought to be right. -- Nick.mon (talk) 17:45, 4 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
Still an edit war and I didn't want to block. So now a discussion can be had. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 17:48, 4 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

-- Nick.mon (talk) 21:05, 15 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
D'accordo, in tal caso la reinserisco. Buona serata. --Newblackwhite (talk) 21:24, 15 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Italian parliament graphs edit

Hi Nick. I am modifying the files for the current composition of the Italian Parliament according to the tradition that was in place earlier. I sincerely think we do not need to clog the charts with information about the various components of the mixed group: all those colours become easily unrecognizable and as a consequence having those sub-groups loses the purpose of clarity. I think it's much better to just show the mixed group as a whole, and the actual main groups. If one needs more insight about the mixed group, one can go to the tables or the various lists in the infoboxes. I also shifted IV back closer to the centre-left: I think we should not make the position of the parties in the graph depend on the government/opposition status. This is unrelated to their position on the "parliament map". Check File:Italian Chamber of Deputies current.svg. --Ritchie92 (talk) 10:55, 24 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi Ritchie92! I understand your point, in my view it was a good solution, but I understand that the graph becomes a mess with all the sub-groups. -- Nick.mon (talk) 10:58, 24 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
Ok, I will change the Senate graph accordingly when the new groups are officialized on its website. --Ritchie92 (talk) 11:24, 26 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

COVID-19 testing data in Italy edit

Hi Nick.mon. I think the data of the last days about the number of tests in Italy (see COVID-19 pandemic in Italy#Statistics are incorrect. Could you correct them please? --Ritchie92 (talk) 11:25, 26 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi Ritchie92, the data are actually correct (Feb 24, Feb 25). The huge increase is caused by a new way of counting the number of tests, I believe. -- Nick.mon (talk) 11:55, 26 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
Yesterday's data has been corrected, I think. We should refer to the official database, here: [1]. --Ritchie92 (talk) 12:23, 26 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

2010s edit

Well, first of all, you had said that those pictures added in the page were agreed one year ago. But honestly, though they show relevant facts that happened during the decade, yet it's missing some informations. For example, it's missing some other relevant events like European migrant crisis, killing of Osama bin Laden, etc. So, wouldn't it be possible adding a new collage with these pictures along with the ones in the current version? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Arcanji (talkcontribs) 22:10, 27 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Arcanji, maybe you'll be surprise, but I quite agree, the migrant crisis is definitely important, but it was decided to insert Arab Springs and rise of ISIL as some of its causes and we agreed not to insert the crisis itself, but we can discuss about that. Regarding the killing of Osama, maybe two pics about terrorist groups are too much. Anyway we have to discuss on the apposite talk page. You started a discussion, let's continue it there. -- Nick.mon (talk) 22:15, 27 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Beyond My Ken, excuse me for that, but you can't invent false informations. I've never tried to make the logo even larger, this is simply false. 160px was used for years before your edits, I agree that 160px is too large, but I simply tried to restore a long-established version. -- Nick.mon (talk) 07:51, 26 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Adakiko: Well, I sincerly don't know why, but during this season (as well as during 2019–20), black uniform is used during home games. But it's quite weird to be honest. I don't know, maybe the owner prefers black uniforms, I don't know :) -- Nick.mon (talk) 07:49, 4 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Changing sourced results edit

Hello. Your recent changes to 1909 Italian general election mean the results table no longer matches what is in the source. Please never change sourced results without changing the source, otherwise it looks like falsification or vandalism. As no alternative source was provided, I've reverted to the figures given in the source. If you've done this on any other articles (I don't pay much attention to Italian ones), please could you go back and fix this. Cheers, Number 57 21:20, 5 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi Number 57. I took the results from it.Wiki (as you can see here and the source is Istat) and I thought they were correct. To be honest, even en.Wiki's sources aren't clear about the result of the election. -- Nick.mon (talk) 07:07, 6 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Mattarella Honorific edit

Hello!- Just wanted to let you know, I only added the source back on the honorific prefix because I've had it deleted twice because I didn't cite. Just wanted to make sure I was thorough. If you have any other thoughts, I'm new to this so let me know so I can continue to learn. Thanks! Spf121188 (talk) 19:07, 11 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi Spf121188! Sources are always welcomed but IMHO are not necessary there, in an infobox. However, the use of honorific prefixes for Italian politicians has often been discussed and it was decided not to use them, because it’s only a formal title, and basically no one, even during official press conferences or parliament’s debates, refers to the PM or the President with the title “Your Excellency”. Maybe you should start a discussion in the appropriate talk page. —- Nick.mon (talk) 19:25, 11 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Color palettes for maps edit

Hi Nick. Given your higher expertise (than mine) in color palettes and Italian parties, I wanted to ask you whether you could produce a few palettes for the Centre-right, Centre-left, M5S, Lega, PD for the strength maps that I am about to produce. Something like in File:2006 Italian general election - Vote Strength.svg but hopefully more similar to the official colors of the parties. I found it most difficult for the M5S because shades of yellow are quite difficult to distinguish on the map. Thanks! --Ritchie92 (talk) 16:30, 15 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Of course if you can think of a general strategy how to produce shades of colors that are weaker or stronger, I am all ears and ready to learn how to do it myself! --Ritchie92 (talk) 16:31, 15 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Ritchie92: I don't think I'm more expert than you, but thank you, I'll try to do something! -- Nick.mon (talk) 17:47, 15 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Ritchie92: Maybe you could with these shades. The M5S was especially difficult you were right (and two shades are almost identical...) -- Nick.mon (talk) 19:11, 15 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Centre-right

Centre-left

M5S

Thanks, I'll try with these (I'm a bit afraid of the outcome with the M5S colors, but let's see). --Ritchie92 (talk) 23:07, 15 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Ritchie92: Maybe you could try with these ones :) -- Nick.mon (talk) 03:52, 16 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi Nick.mon. What do you think about these: File:Italian 2018 elections Chamber of Deputies constituencies strength.svg and File:Italian 2018 elections Senate constituencies strength.svg ? --Ritchie92 (talk) 08:01, 18 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Ritchie92: I really like them, great job! -- Nick.mon (talk) 08:07, 18 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Ritchie92: Just a suggestion, maybe you could use #48D1CC for Aosta Valley coalition. -- Nick.mon (talk) 08:11, 18 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
I updated them. --Ritchie92 (talk) 08:16, 18 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Ritchie92: Thank you! Excuse me, I've another suggestion. The SVP was part of the centre-left coalition so districts of South Tyrol should be "red" not "black". -- Nick.mon (talk) 09:16, 18 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
No, my bad, the SVP ran alone in those districts. -- Nick.mon (talk) 09:17, 18 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Did something similar but with parties (only Chamber for now): File:Italian 2018 elections Chamber of Deputies constituencies parties strength.svg. Comments? --Ritchie92 (talk) 10:01, 19 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Ritchie92: I like it, good job! -- Nick.mon (talk) 10:03, 19 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi Nick. My medium-range plans are to update the results maps for older Italian elections, in cases like File:1996 Italian general election - Vote Strength.svg where I think it's nearly impossible to see some differences (is >70% really necessary? also indistinguishable in the color palettes between parties, and even below 70% I cannot say which constituencies are PRC or Ulivo). If you see other cases where it could be "urgent" to have new maps like the ones I did for the 2018 election, please let me know! Cheers, Yakme (talk) 16:09, 25 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Yakme: Hi! Yeah I was just looking at that maps and I was thinking it was quite difficult to distinguish Ulivo and PRC... anyway, most of maps are quite good, but that one is the main problem. -- Nick.mon (talk) 16:14, 25 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Also File:1994 Italian general election - Vote Strength.svg here can you say with certainty if in South Tyrol the first coalition was the PdL or SVP (given the palettes)? --Yakme (talk) 16:26, 25 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Yakme: No, you'right, with all the darkest shades are almost indistinguishable. -- Nick.mon (talk) 16:33, 25 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Yakme: Anyway, just to give you my personal (and aesthetic) view regarding those maps, I think that (when you'll have time) you could reduce the number of shades, maybe 5 are too much, 4 I think will be enough. Moreover, I like the "style" of the legends used in these maps, if you can, you could copy it; maybe it would be nice if you use the same "style", font and the four shades even for all the parties in the 2018 election maps (for example, you used two shades only for the SVP, I know, it's probably senseless to show a shade which is not used in the map, but I don't know, it's just an aesthetic opinion...). I hope you won't "kill" me, but as I said, it's just my personal view, so, do what you prefer :) -- Nick.mon (talk) 19:27, 25 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
I asked for your advice on your talk page, why would I "kill" you? Regarding the number of shades I had though the same as you, reduce to 4. Regarding the legend, I can definitely add more information to it (like the number of FPTP and PR seats won by each coalition). This cannot be done for the parties though, because only a few parties are shown in the map. Regarding the full palettes I made the following decision: for large parties like PD I show the whole palette even though some colors are never used (in 2018 the PD did not get >40% in any constituency, for example); however for smaller or regional parties, where the color is really only shown once or twice, I think it's better to avoid having to introduce another full palette, risking possible additional confusion, and therefore I reduced the number of available colors (for Aosta Valley I showed two colors even though only one would be needed, just to make it a bit nicer to look at). I don't know if it makes sense, but I prefer to avoid adding more dark colors to the legend which could cause confusion, like what happens in the 1994 and 1996 maps. --Yakme (talk) 15:10, 26 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Yakme: Yeah I know, but I mean… I was once again asking you to change the maps so… anyway, ok I understand maybe too many dark colors are quite confusing, but yeah I just prefer to have 4 shades for every party but I understand your point of view. Anyway, thank you for your job!! -- Nick.mon (talk) 17:16, 26 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
