P.S. edit
- I had the understanding that all Australian's who served were eligible and most senior officers after the war were given the medal. I had received a confirmation email (before Christmas) from from the DPC and the AWM that this had not happened and no Australians have ever been eligible for the medal. A simple misunderstanding on my part.
- Oh. How disappointing. (i.e. Not very interesting at all.) I'm wondering if you confused it with the United Nations Korea Medal, which is the only foreign campaign medal that is worn amongst the Oz campaign medals - rather than after all the other Oz medals? Thanks for the heads-up. Best wishes on this one - other than the same two refs that you also found, I couldn't find anything useful / useable! I'm up to my eyeballs in a collaboration on Nancy Wilson (rock musician) at the moment, but if you want a hand, drop me a line and I'll see what I can do. Gotta tell you though, if I'd found anything useful when I was looking, I would have started an article then. (i.e. I'm not optomistic.)
At that time there was a bit more available on RSM-A, but still not enough for a separate article. I guess that means that your WO-N article is quite an achievement!

MID edit
Suggest that your reverse your MID addition since the page is for the Australian Honours System. It specifically states that prior to 1975 Australia was part of the Imperial Honours System. The Australian Government ceased recommendations for operational gallantry awards such as the VC, MC, DCM etc in 1975 not 1991. The last awards were in 1972 for for Vietnam. It would seem that it was Australia’s involvement in the Gulf War that initiated the creation of the VCFA and Australian Gallantry Awards although the first awards were not for that conflict but for Rwanda. Recent edits to military biographies edit
Hi,
A few of your recent edits have confused me a bit: You've removed someone's post-nominals from the infobox, and also added someone's rank into the name parameter, which I'm pretty sure isn't right, and the consensus seems to be not to put ranks into the infobox headers. You've also removed a 'plainlist' template from an infobox, when the documentation says to use it, and removed a 'post-nominals' template from a lead section, which I thought was a useful addition. You've also deleted awards from infoboxes where someone has been promoted within an Order - I can't find any definite guidelines on this, but I'd say that the awards are still significant, even when a higher one has been awarded. You've also deleted the dates of awards - again I can't find guidelines, but I'd say its useful information. I also notice you've added some ostentatious medal ribbon sections, which are definitely frowned on - there was a discussion on this not long ago, which petered out without coming to any definite conclusion, but the consensus was definitely against the sort of thing you've added (even though there's a lot of them around). The sort of thing I've put into e.g. David Walker seemed to be a bit more acceptable, although certainly not to everyone.
Can you point to guidelines for the things I've mentioned above? It would help to know what you've based your changes on.

- Sorry, I have not got back sooner and I might be offline for a while yet because of the floods. I have made a few edits on military bio's, with what's been going on of late I can't rightly remember what I've done and for what specific reasons, if you could list a couple of your pages of interest that would be good.
- In regards to the page you have already pointed out; The table I replaced with mine enables more detailed information to be added without making the replaced table look too odd, I am happy with the other table though. I removed the year awards from the infobox to tidy it up as it could go into the table and I changed the CBE ribbon.
- The changes I made to Richard Barrons is a good example of what I am trying to achieve throughout British Armed Forces officers, which is clear and concise. Nford24 (Want to have a chat?) 05:31, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
- That's a perfectly prompt reply as far as I'm concerned. Sorry to hear you're having weather problems - obviously get back to me when you can. The medal table for Richard Barrons is about the size I think they should be (so as not to upset too many people). You've also got his MBE and OBE there as well as the CBE, with their dates, which is also what I was thinking should be included. What I hadn't spotted on the pages I was looking at (Stuart Peach, Andy Pulford, Tim Anderson and Stephen Hillier) was that you'd put this info into the medal tables, so apologies for that. I do still think that it would be better to have that info in the infobox though - they are still "significant awards" or whatever the wording is - and I think the medal tables would be better just showing the current medals - they'd be neater with no double rows and, with just a description of the medal, they'd stay the same size as the infobox rather than spreading out. Honorary Companions of The Order of Australia edit
I couldn't find anything in the Constitution of The Order of Australia to substantiate this edit of to remove post-nominals AC from Kiri Te Kawana. The Governor-General of Australia did use sect 30. to issue the Designations and Insignia Ordinance and Sect 3(c)(i) states:
A member of the Order of Australia or a person awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia is entitled —
(c) in the case of a Companion, or honorary Companion —
(i) to have the letters “AC” placed after his or her name on all occasions when the use of such letters is customary;
While your edit was made in good faith the constitution of the Order permits honorary members to use the same post-nominals as a substantive member.

Operational Service Medal - for civilians edit
I have a colleague who has just returned from TK saying he has picked up two gongs - the NATO ISAF, and the Oz Operational Service Medal for civilians. I can't find any information about the Oz Operational Service Medal for civilians, except that the OSM for Border Protection press releases mention that there are plans to have one ...

Again, no supporting references. And I have my doubts about a couple of the awards, particularly the Fed star on the DLSM and the 3 rosettes on the NM. Please review, correct, and preferrably add references. BTW: The Scotch obit says:

No, I don't think this is a good idea. Maybe a separate page named something like List of recipients of the INTERFET medal, (or even a category - e.g. Category:Recipients of the INTERFET medal), but this page, (International Force East Timor Medal), is about the medal, not about people who have received it.

Howdy. If you are going to create ribbons, please can you make them 100x30px? And can you make them bear at least a passing resemblance to the original?

As a piece of friendly advice, I suggest that you try understatement in preference to overstatement. Maybe the section is indeed very relevant to the topic, but you don't explain how or why, and you don't provide supporting references that explain how or why, or support your (missing) explanation. "it is not original research" - Hmmm. I disagree. Perhaps you should re-read WP:OR? "it was fully referenced" - Errrr. No. It wasn't. Cooroy heritage listings edit
The reason I was deliberately vague about the number of heritage sites and the use of the "including" is because I am working my way (slowly) through the Queensland Heritage Register (there's over 1500 entries). It is quite possible that there will be more entries for Cooroy from that heritage register or from the LGA's local heritage register (which I have not started yet). I put the street addresses in as often heritage listings are in precincts or "streetscapes" so keeping the addresses there enables me to group the entries (as I find them) sensibly by location. I realise it might not make sense in isolation but it does make sense in the bigger picture. Kerry (talk) 04:08, 14 July 2013 (UTC)

- Sigh, the Queensland Heritage Register is a bit iffy with its locations. Some are just plain wrong (mistranscribed I think -- often a name similar to the real name), others were probably right at the time of the listing but the place name has changed over time, some are not actual place names but names of other things such as railway lines (particularly common for heritage-listed railway bridges) so I often find entries beyond the obvious ones (I start with the obvious ones). Although they don't provide the lat/long coordinates for each entry, they will email you a map for each entry from which you can read off the coordinates - these maps seem to be pretty accurate, so I use them whenever the stated location seems doubtful. - It occurs to me that the subject title may mean nothing to you, which, in my completely unbiased opinion (cough, cough), is a shame, so I'll proceed to bore the pants off you. In the mid-20th-century, a comic book titled Space Family Robinson (no prizes for guessing its origins) became so popular that Hollywood just had to cash in on it, and Lost in Space made them pots of money. (Again, no prizes for guessing I lusted after Angela Cartwright - or at least, as much as a naïve teenager can lust after a black-and-white image of a female ... Meanwhile, back at the ranch ...) The young lad in the TV show, Will Robertson, struck up a relationship with the robot, (no, don't ask), and whenever the robot perceived a risky / dangerous situation, it blurted out at full volume in a suitably robotic-like voice: "Warning Will Robertson!" (Yeah, OK, you had to be there - ask your parents - maybe they can explain it.) Anyway:

P.S. (Hopefully amusing anecdote.)
I mentioned to my friend that he should have an ICAT clasp for his medal. He replied that there were several other plastic bags that came with the medal that he hadn't looked at yet. A couple of days later he mentioned that, yes, one of the bags actually contained two clasps - one for the medal, and one for the miniature. He said that the one for the miniature was so small that he couldn't pick it up, and he supposed he would have to pay an expert to fit it onto the miniature ribbon. But given that he didn't own a dinner suit, and hadn't worn any sort of suit since he'd been married, he didn't see this as a high priority ...

- I can see what you mean, but I believe the desired outcome was the 'Australian Honours System' template would only show awards created through the Australian System, and the 'Australian Campaign Medals' would list the campaign medals awarded to Australians pre and post federation. If it was a workable idea to add all of the (at least post-federation) medals to the 'Australian Honours System' template than I would be happy to look into it. - Well, of course, that's not accurate. My indecision is based on the fact that I don't see the point of two templates where one is a subset of the other. i.e. It seems more logical to have ALL of the campaign medals in one of the templates, and NONE of them in the other. Oh dear! It seems that you are far too quickly learning from me how to be a grumpy old man. My excuse is that I am an "old man", so "grumpy old man" is, for me, a small step. You, on the other hand, are by no stretch of anyone's imagination "old". Please don't get me wrong - I completely agree with your comments regarding the behavior of idiots. But I do feel that, given that you may wish to be using Wikipedia for the next 40 or so years, you may wish to take a longer-term perspective than I do.
Whatever approach you choose to take, you continue to have my support. Quite clearly and obviously, this guy is a WP:DICK. (After all, you really have to be screwing up in a BIG way to annoy the calm and rational Nick-D, and I see that the history of his talk page includes "less than supportive" comments from a number of reasonable / rational / reliable / sensible / editors, so you are in "low risk" territory.) But never-the-less, I expect that at your age you have no great wish to be categorised as a "grumpy old man". If you are finding my post a bit random, I'm more than happy to clarify things via email.

Shire of Noosa timeline edit
I just saw the timeline for the mayors that you added to Shire of Noosa. It looks very nice and does convey information that isn't obvious from the list of names and dates. I've been doing a lot of work lately on trying to get at least a basic article on all our former shires, and lists/tables of majors and populations etc are part of that, so I had been wondering about better ways to present this kind of info than just a list or table. Did you use any tool to generate this timeline, or is this something that you have to manually edit to create? If it was a tool, can you point me at it as I can see it would be quite useful. Thanks. - I do wish you luck in your endeavour, I came across the timeline sometime ago and have since placed it on the Chief od the Defence Force (Australia) page as well as others along those same lines. Just copy and past it into what ever article you need and change the values, play around with it on your sandbox because its pretty cool. - Your welcome. No the ceremony started earlier then it was supposed too so i only arrived during Sandy Boulton's oath. But during Noel Playfords speach at the end it did make mention of the council chanmers being altered by the SCRC and it was no longer suitable to the new NSC council team, so until that is ready the cooroy hall will service the council. Noel did make mention of a new chambers (though he could be refering to the current chambers after the alterations are done) but a lady i spoke too who was there for the entire ceremony said they are building new chambers at either cooroy or the suburb between cooroy and tewantin (sorry i forgot the name). On a side note, Noel also said all of the furniture at the current chambers was being removed and not going back (not sure why, wrong logo maybe?). Allegiance field in infoboxes edit
Hi Nford, the allegiance field in Template:Infobox military unit is intended to only be used to "indicate the allegiance of units which are not part of the regular armed forces of a sovereign state". In passing I've just noticed you adding Bt after a peerage. You may be unaware that this is not officially used for peers because it is an abbreviation not a true post nominal. eg. If you are confusing say "Sir John Smith, 2nd Baronet; 2nd Baron Smith" that is a conventional listing of titles which is fine and a form that raises no issues it doesn't say "Baron Smith Bt" is correct. - From what I know the Decoration for Officers of the Royal Naval Reserve (RD) is much like our RFD, see Decoration for Officers of the Royal Naval Reserve. - I added it because some recipients of the RD appear in the Honour's lists starting from 1975 Queen's Birthday Honours (Australia) - See AM Military Division. The RD is from what I can gather is rated as an equiv to the Efficiency Decoration (ED). The are both indirectly listed as being No. 95 on the list - Long Service Medals (Includes Imperial efficiency and long service awards.) - Which in its self is very vague. Nathanael, the images you uploaded a while back -- the Officer of Cadets (OOC) Ranks insignias? Those were very useful. But last week, you made a mistake.
You uploaded new versions of the insignias, which you found on UniformInsignias.org. Those are not free images; they belong to Tony Baldwin (the graphic designer). And even if they were free, you shouldn't have uploaded them as "own work", because they're not your own work and that screws up the provenance.

Order of the Thistle edit
Order of the Thistle Hi Nathaniel Because I do not understand the formatting stuff properly, I am not confident to make the amendment myself, but the following correction May interest you. The Chancellor of the Order of the Thistle remains the Earl of Airlie. The confusion with lord Smith... arises because the honours list for the thistle is formally approved by the chancellor of that order and, depending how you have access to it, the text all runs together to appear that lord Smith of Kelvin is, in fact appointed chancellor. He was not. The full PDF transcript available through the gov.uk portal is clearer if your device can read it properly. "Chancellor of the Order of the Thistle" is then clearly on a separate line as authorising the publication of the names of the two new knights. I think the confusion arose because of the way newspapers reported these appointments. Thistle appointments, as you know, are normally made on St Andrew's Day in November, but last year that day was overshadowed by a helicopter tragedy in Glasgow. I assume that is why the announcement was deferred to New Year. Had the thistle appointments been issued alone, I do not think the reporting would have been confused. As it is, the press converted the whole PDF document into text for their papers and the formatting suddenly became confusing. PS sorry to appear a pedant, but I am pleased that you take a real interest in the honours system. Hey! I am just after an opinion. A graphic designer has done the various RAN/RAAF & ANC/AAFC/AAC ranks using his awesome skill and I have been given access to the originals and permission to use them on WP. I have added the flag rank hardboards to the RAN page and was wondering (in your opinion) if I should replace the sleeve lace with the SRI (soft rank insignia) versions then add the hard board's as well.
