I had the understanding that all Australian's who served were eligible and most senior officers after the war were given the medal. I had received a confirmation email (before Christmas) from from the DPC and the AWM that this had not happened and no Australians have ever been eligible for the medal. A simple misunderstanding on my part.
Oh. How disappointing. (i.e. Not very interesting at all.) I'm wondering if you confused it with the United Nations Korea Medal, which is the only foreign campaign medal that is worn amongst the Oz campaign medals - rather than after all the other Oz medals? WOFF-AF edit

Thanks for the heads-up. Best wishes on this one - other than the same two refs that you also found, I couldn't find anything useful / useable! I'm up to my eyeballs in a collaboration on Nancy Wilson (rock musician) at the moment, but if you want a hand, drop me a line and I'll see what I can do. Gotta tell you though, if I'd found anything useful when I was looking, I would have started an article then. (i.e. I'm not optomistic.)
At that time there was a bit more available on RSM-A, but still not enough for a separate article. I guess that means that your WO-N article is quite an achievement!

If you feel like trying for consistency - which would be quite a challenge in the current setup, the relevant pages to attack are:

Warrant Officer of the Navy a page (created by you)
WO-N redirects to Warrant Officer of the Navy
Regimental Sergeant Major of the Army redirects to Warrant officer#Australia
Also: Regimental Sergeant Major#Australia
RSM-A a disambiguation page
Warrant Officer of the Air Force a page (created by you)
WOFF-AF redirects to Warrant Officer of the Air Force

Cheers (and good luck), Pdfpdf (talk) 13:30, 22 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

MID edit

Suggest that your reverse your MID addition since the page is for the Australian Honours System. It specifically states that prior to 1975 Australia was part of the Imperial Honours System. The Australian Government ceased recommendations for operational gallantry awards such as the VC, MC, DCM etc in 1975 not 1991. The last awards were in 1972 for for Vietnam. It would seem that it was Australia’s involvement in the Gulf War that initiated the creation of the VCFA and Australian Gallantry Awards although the first awards were not for that conflict but for Rwanda. Disambiguation link notification for January 23 edit

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Warrant Officer of the Air Force, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Chief of Air Force (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Recent edits to military biographies edit

Hi,

A few of your recent edits have confused me a bit: You've removed someone's post-nominals from the infobox, and also added someone's rank into the name parameter, which I'm pretty sure isn't right, and the consensus seems to be not to put ranks into the infobox headers. You've also removed a 'plainlist' template from an infobox, when the documentation says to use it, and removed a 'post-nominals' template from a lead section, which I thought was a useful addition. You've also deleted awards from infoboxes where someone has been promoted within an Order - I can't find any definite guidelines on this, but I'd say that the awards are still significant, even when a higher one has been awarded. You've also deleted the dates of awards - again I can't find guidelines, but I'd say its useful information. I also notice you've added some ostentatious medal ribbon sections, which are definitely frowned on - there was a discussion on this not long ago, which petered out without coming to any definite conclusion, but the consensus was definitely against the sort of thing you've added (even though there's a lot of them around). The sort of thing I've put into e.g. David Walker seemed to be a bit more acceptable, although certainly not to everyone.

Can you point to guidelines for the things I've mentioned above? It would help to know what you've based your changes on.

Thanks, Antrim Kate (talk) 23:24, 28 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, I have not got back sooner and I might be offline for a while yet because of the floods. I have made a few edits on military bio's, with what's been going on of late I can't rightly remember what I've done and for what specific reasons, if you could list a couple of your pages of interest that would be good.
In regards to the page you have already pointed out; The table I replaced with mine enables more detailed information to be added without making the replaced table look too odd, I am happy with the other table though. I removed the year awards from the infobox to tidy it up as it could go into the table and I changed the CBE ribbon.
The changes I made to Richard Barrons is a good example of what I am trying to achieve throughout British Armed Forces officers, which is clear and concise. Nford24 (Want to have a chat?) 05:31, 29 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
That's a perfectly prompt reply as far as I'm concerned. Sorry to hear you're having weather problems - obviously get back to me when you can. The medal table for Richard Barrons is about the size I think they should be (so as not to upset too many people). You've also got his MBE and OBE there as well as the CBE, with their dates, which is also what I was thinking should be included. What I hadn't spotted on the pages I was looking at (Stuart Peach, Andy Pulford, Tim Anderson and Stephen Hillier) was that you'd put this info into the medal tables, so apologies for that. I do still think that it would be better to have that info in the infobox though - they are still "significant awards" or whatever the wording is - and I think the medal tables would be better just showing the current medals - they'd be neater with no double rows and, with just a description of the medal, they'd stay the same size as the infobox rather than spreading out. What are your reasons for preferring it the other way around? Antrim Kate (talk) 23:36, 29 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Honorary Companions of The Order of Australia edit

I couldn't find anything in the Constitution of The Order of Australia to substantiate this edit of to remove post-nominals AC from Kiri Te Kawana. The Governor-General of Australia did use sect 30. to issue the Designations and Insignia Ordinance and Sect 3(c)(i) states:

A member of the Order of Australia or a person awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia is entitled —
(c) in the case of a Companion, or honorary Companion —
(i) to have the letters “AC” placed after his or her name on all occasions when the use of such letters is customary;

While your edit was made in good faith the constitution of the Order permits honorary members to use the same post-nominals as a substantive member.

post-nominal template edit

Hi, That new template looks rather useful. If you haven't done so, can I suggest that you advertise it at WT:MILHIST? Regards, Nick-D (talk) 11:14, 4 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Yes, it is. I shall do that now. Nford24 (Want to have a chat?) 11:16, 4 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
My but you've been a busy boy! (And yes, I also agree "That new template looks rather useful.")
Given the amount of manual work you are doing, have you considered the idea of using a script or bot? I know very little about either, but there are plenty of helpful people who do. It would be a useful skill to acquire, and a more interesting and enjoyable use of your time & effort than endless hours of manual editing. (A further benefit is that you could then explain it all to me, but I guess that's not much of a benefit to you ... ) Anyway, good work / well done. Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 15:31, 10 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
I agree, it would be helpful and useful to learn. At the moment I'm hoping by puting it on enough pages that other editors will pick it up and spread it as well. If I did learn I would pass on to you any useful information, since you've taught me so much about Wikipedia editing. Nford24 (Want to have a chat?) 20:58, 10 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

At the moment I'm hoping by puting it on enough pages that other editors will pick it up and spread it as well. - Good strategic thinking! (i.e. Get somebody else to do it.) Operational Service Medal - for civilians edit

I have a colleague who has just returned from TK saying he has picked up two gongs - the NATO ISAF, and the Oz Operational Service Medal for civilians. I can't find any information about the Oz Operational Service Medal for civilians, except that the OSM for Border Protection press releases mention that there are plans to have one ...
Can you throw any light on my problem? Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 13:31, 18 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

You may also notice, he is wearing his ribbons upside down....... WOW! Nford24 (Want to have a chat?) 14:02, 29 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Do you mean upside-down, or back-to-front? (And no, until you pointed it out, I hadn't noticed.)
But isn't it more a case of "out-of-order" than either upside-down or back-to-front?
Donaldson's WP page says:
(To me), Hurley's photo looks like 6 ribbons: Top row: VC; ?; Bottom row: ISAF; ?; white-green-white(?); white-red-white(?)
RS's ribbons are also difficult to decipher, (though a bit simpler than Donaldson's).
a) What do you think Donaldson is wearing?
b) This sort of uncertainty is what the pedants latch on to, saying a picture is non-definitive. Personally, I think that argument is bull-shit, but in a talk page debate, saying that is ... errr ... "not useful". Pdfpdf (talk) 15:16, 29 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

I seem to have missed your last comment here, I can identify all Australian and most of the current British medals and ribbons as well as groups from a glance pretty easily, but that could be because I didn't have a life for a while and studied that kind of stuff. Now I have a bookshelf legit full of books about this king of stuff. Nford24 (Want to have a chat?) 14:33, 10 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Stretton edit

Again, no supporting references. And I have my doubts about a couple of the awards, particularly the Fed star on the DLSM and the 3 rosettes on the NM. Please review, correct, and preferrably add references. BTW: The Scotch obit says:

Alan served in the Korean War in the 1st Battalion from 1954 to 1955, and served in Malaya as the commanding officer of the Australian battalion (1961-63). He was awarded the MBE (Military) on 13 December 1955 for his Korean service.

and

On 12 June 1965 he was awarded the OBE (Military) for his Malayan campaign and on 8 January 1971 was awarded the CBE (Military) for his Vietnam service. In 1970 the South Vietnamese government awarded him its DSO and in 1973 the US awarded him the Bronze Star.

so that gets you off to a good start. Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 11:36, 28 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

I've added a few more refs, I'm not sure how to ref a picture though or if it is even common practice on wikipedia. http://www.portrait.gov.au/site/collection_info.php?acno=1999.32 Nford24 (Want to have a chat?) 03:59, 29 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

INTERFET edit

No, I don't think this is a good idea. Maybe a separate page named something like List of recipients of the INTERFET medal, (or even a category - e.g. Category:Recipients of the INTERFET medal), but this page, (International Force East Timor Medal), is about the medal, not about people who have received it.

Yes, I understand why you've done it, (I've done similar myself in the past), but my experience is that one of the pedants (maybe even me!!) will come along and revert it. Please yourself, but you can't now say you haven't been briefed! Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 15:31, 29 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

May 2013 edit

Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia. We always appreciate when users upload new images. However, it appears that one or more of the images you have recently uploaded or added to an article, specifically List of Australian flags, may fail our non-free image policy. Most often, this involves editors uploading or using a copyrighted image of a living person. For other possible reasons, please read up on our Non-free image criteria. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Werieth (talk) 21:59, 31 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Please see WP:NFLIST you cannot use that file. Werieth (talk) 22:23, 31 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
I have;
1. The Image contains only one non-free image which is allowed.
2. The Image has no page of its own so it is allowed.
3. Does not convey a representative visual reference to any part of the article.
4. The Image is fully licenced.
5. The Image is not of a living person.
6. Does not convey a representative visual reference to any part of the article.

Non-free image use in galleries or tables usually unacceptable, but should be considered on a case-by-case basis - It's an article of official Australian flags so it would be a Case-by-case basis.Nford24 (Want to have a chat?) 22:32, 31 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Lets take your points above one at a time. 1) who says its allowed? there is no entitlement for the usage of non-free media. 2) says who? this same thing could be claimed for List of Characters in X which has been soundly rejected. 3) No clue what your point is. 4) It is licensed as non-free which means it must comply with WP:NFCC. 5) has no barrings on this discussion. 6) same as point 3. || Now Lets take a look at WP:NFCC specifically #8 how is not having one file in a list of flags prevent the reader from understanding Australian flags? Getting a overview of Australian flags with free files is sufficient. Werieth (talk) 23:16, 31 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
The list is actually from your linked page. The Image only contains one non-free image, that of the ANC's official crest. The Image does not have a page of its own E.G. Australian National Flag. Try reading your evidentiary dot points. Nford24 (Want to have a chat?) 23:23, 31 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Order of Australia - Corruption. edit

If you must delete entire sections can you please make an attempt at explaining why. This section is very relevant to the topic, it is not original research, it was fully referenced and there was no call to vandalize the topic by making this bulk deletion. Laughton.andrew (talk) 14:04, 8 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Sorry Laughton.andrew, but that's your opinion, (not fact), and my opinion has differences to yours. As a piece of friendly advice, I suggest that you try understatement in preference to overstatement. You open with the perfectly reasonable statement: "If you must delete entire sections can you please make an attempt at explaining why." But then you go overboard. Maybe the section is indeed very relevant to the topic, but you don't explain how or why, and you don't provide supporting references that explain how or why, or support your (missing) explanation. "it is not original research" - Hmmm. I disagree. Perhaps you should re-read WP:OR? "it was fully referenced" - Errrr. No. It wasn't. "and there was no call to vandalize the topic by making this bulk deletion." - So it's a good thing that he didn't do that, isn't it! Pdfpdf (talk) 14:28, 8 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of 2013 Queen's Birthday Honours (Australia) edit

Hello Nford24,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged 2013 Queen's Birthday Honours (Australia) for deletion, because it seems to be copied from another source.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to rewrite it in your own words, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Bruno Russell (talk) 14:36, 11 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Cooroy heritage listings edit

The reason I was deliberately vague about the number of heritage sites and the use of the "including" is because I am working my way (slowly) through the Queensland Heritage Register (there's over 1500 entries). It is quite possible that there will be more entries for Cooroy from that heritage register or from the LGA's local heritage register (which I have not started yet). I put the street addresses in as often heritage listings are in precincts or "streetscapes" so keeping the addresses there enables me to group the entries (as I find them) sensibly by location. I realise it might not make sense in isolation but it does make sense in the bigger picture. Kerry (talk) 04:08, 14 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the heads up, I did a 'Cooroy' search in the register and it only came up with the two you've already listed. But checking it by specific location sounds like a good idea, best of luck. Nford24 (Want to have a chat?) 04:12, 14 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
Sigh, the Queensland Heritage Register is a bit iffy with its locations. Some are just plain wrong (mistranscribed I think -- often a name similar to the real name), others were probably right at the time of the listing but the place name has changed over time, some are not actual place names but names of other things such as railway lines (particularly common for heritage-listed railway bridges) so I often find entries beyond the obvious ones (I start with the obvious ones). Although they don't provide the lat/long coordinates for each entry, they will email you a map for each entry from which you can read off the coordinates - these maps seem to be pretty accurate, so I use them whenever the stated location seems doubtful. Warning Will Robertson! edit

Background
It occurs to me that the subject title may mean nothing to you, which, in my completely unbiased opinion (cough, cough), is a shame, so I'll proceed to bore the pants off you. In the mid-20th-century, a comic book titled Space Family Robinson (no prizes for guessing its origins) became so popular that Hollywood just had to cash in on it, and Lost in Space made them pots of money. (Again, no prizes for guessing I lusted after Angela Cartwright - or at least, as much as a naïve teenager can lust after a black-and-white image of a female ... Meanwhile, back at the ranch ...) The young lad in the TV show, Will Robertson, struck up a relationship with the robot, (no, don't ask), and whenever the robot perceived a risky / dangerous situation, it blurted out at full volume in a suitably robotic-like voice: "Warning Will Robertson!" (Yeah, OK, you had to be there - ask your parents - maybe they can explain it.) Anyway:

add his full compliment of WW2 medals based on his official portrait as Chief of Naval Staff for the Australian Command and Staff College - http://krystiimelaine.com/P_Admiral_Sir_Anthony_Synnot.html - I'll warn you that there are those who do not consider portraits sufficient evidence. Pdfpdf (talk) 10:58, 18 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

(No, I don't know why they don't think "a picture is worth a thousand words" - I've read their so-called justifications, but it all sounds like WP:I just don't like it to me.) Pdfpdf (talk) 10:58, 18 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

The medal looks, I had'nt noticed the picture actually. Not wishing to be any more rude that normal, but, ...
  • The medal looks, - ?
  • I had'nt noticed the picture actually. - Oh. Oh well.
  • I assume ... - Hmmm. Good question. Sorry, don't know the answer. Hmmm. Maybe Anthony Staunton might know the answer? (Sorry.)
Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 13:37, 28 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

P.S. (Hopefully amusing anecdote.)
I mentioned to my friend that he should have an ICAT clasp for his medal. He replied that there were several other plastic bags that came with the medal that he hadn't looked at yet. A couple of days later he mentioned that, yes, one of the bags actually contained two clasps - one for the medal, and one for the miniature. He said that the one for the miniature was so small that he couldn't pick it up, and he supposed he would have to pay an expert to fit it onto the miniature ribbon. But given that he didn't own a dinner suit, and hadn't worn any sort of suit since he'd been married, he didn't see this as a high priority ...

If/when you're in the mood ... edit

Template:Australian Honours System and Template:Australian Campaign Medals are inconsistent. (Almost to the point of being unrelated.) Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 13:44, 20 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

I can see what you mean, but I believe the desired outcome was the 'Australian Honours System' template would only show awards created through the Australian System, and the 'Australian Campaign Medals' would list the campaign medals awarded to Australians pre and post federation. If it was a workable idea to add all of the (at least post-federation) medals to the 'Australian Honours System' template than I would be happy to look into it. Nford24 (Want to have a chat?) 05:32, 21 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hmmm. (Don't have an answer.) Pdfpdf (talk) 12:49, 22 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
Well, of course, that's not accurate. My indecision is based on the fact that I don't see the point of two templates where one is a subset of the other. i.e. It seems more logical to have ALL of the campaign medals in one of the templates, and NONE of them in the other. But I haven't thought it through yet. Pdfpdf (talk) 12:55, 22 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
When it comes down to it, i actually agree. There's no point in having it separate but parts the same. Nford24 (Want to have a chat?) 21:50, 22 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Idiots edit

Oh dear! It seems that you are far too quickly learning from me how to be a grumpy old man. My excuse is that I am an "old man", so "grumpy old man" is, for me, a small step. You, on the other hand, are by no stretch of anyone's imagination "old". Please don't get me wrong - I completely agree with your comments regarding the behavior of idiots. But I do feel that, given that you may wish to be using Wikipedia for the next 40 or so years, you may wish to take a longer-term perspective than I do.
Whatever approach you choose to take, you continue to have my support. Quite clearly and obviously, this guy is a WP:DICK. (After all, you really have to be screwing up in a BIG way to annoy the calm and rational Nick-D, and I see that the history of his talk page includes "less than supportive" comments from a number of reasonable / rational / reliable / sensible / editors, so you are in "low risk" territory.) But never-the-less, I expect that at your age you have no great wish to be categorised as a "grumpy old man". If you are finding my post a bit random, I'm more than happy to clarify things via email.
Meanwhile, I continue to be impressed by your diligence. Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 13:03, 23 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

I'm not really finding this too random, but doing night shifts at work, doing call-outs with the SES then sailing most weekends with the navy cadets is taking its toll. Heck I'm on Wikipedia right now, looking out my window and all I can see is a gum tree surrounded by a blue sky with a dam next to it... its a lovely day so i might go and enjoy it (after an episode of Foyles War maybe). Shire of Noosa timeline edit

I just saw the timeline for the mayors that you added to Shire of Noosa. It looks very nice and does convey information that isn't obvious from the list of names and dates. I've been doing a lot of work lately on trying to get at least a basic article on all our former shires, and lists/tables of majors and populations etc are part of that, so I had been wondering about better ways to present this kind of info than just a list or table. Did you use any tool to generate this timeline, or is this something that you have to manually edit to create? If it was a tool, can you point me at it as I can see it would be quite useful. Thanks. Kerry (talk) 06:56, 22 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

I do wish you luck in your endeavour, I came across the timeline sometime ago and have since placed it on the Chief od the Defence Force (Australia) page as well as others along those same lines. Just copy and past it into what ever article you need and change the values, play around with it on your sandbox because its pretty cool. Thanks for your edits about Cooroy being the location for the new council. Do you know what happened to the former shire chambers in Pelican Street, Tewantin or why they decided on Cooroy rather than Tewantin? Kerry (talk) 01:44, 2 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Your welcome. No the ceremony started earlier then it was supposed too so i only arrived during Sandy Boulton's oath. But during Noel Playfords speach at the end it did make mention of the council chanmers being altered by the SCRC and it was no longer suitable to the new NSC council team, so until that is ready the cooroy hall will service the council. Noel did make mention of a new chambers (though he could be refering to the current chambers after the alterations are done) but a lady i spoke too who was there for the entire ceremony said they are building new chambers at either cooroy or the suburb between cooroy and tewantin (sorry i forgot the name). On a side note, Noel also said all of the furniture at the current chambers was being removed and not going back (not sure why, wrong logo maybe?). Sir John Smith Bt OBE becomes Lord Smith OBE. See the Duke of Westminster as an example.. All the best Garlicplanting (talk) 14:52, 25 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Do you have any support ref's other then the gazette? The 'Bt' is an offical post-nominal used for those with higher titles (when E.G. 'Mark Edwards, 4th Baron Burke').Nford24 (Want to have a chat?) 17:16, 25 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
Take your pick; search the offical sites for any parliamentary paper/committee/Act/Warrant/legal document/publication or similar! Bt follows the self same rules as Kt (Knight) and for non knights Esq. It cannot, and is not, officially used after the title. Chat all you like. Garlicplanting (talk) 11:39, 26 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
Cool, no need to be a prick but, however I call your attention to something you have overlooked... The Standing Council of the Baronetage seems to support my statement and since they are the group responsible for all Baronets I think they know what is correct. Chat all you like. Nford24 (Want to have a chat?) 21:23, 26 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
I have been perfectly civil to you so why descend into personal abuse. The SCB, of which I am perfectly aware, is private organisation - it is not parliament nor the official government newspaper nor is it an official publication by a government department from which sources I quoted. I have provided multiple official sources - the SCB is one non-government source and not of superior authority quite the reverse. And they don't so far as I can see support you in any event. If you are confusing say "Sir John Smith, 2nd Baronet; 2nd Baron Smith" that is a conventional listing of titles which is fine and a form that raises no issues it doesn't say "Baron Smith Bt" is correct. Garlicplanting (talk) 11:03, 27 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
(talk page stalker)Hmmm. Chat all you like. is hardly "perfectly civil". In fact, the way you have used it is rude. "It ain't what you do, it's the way that you do it." In Australia, we refer to arrogant know-alls as pricks - maybe it's a language thing that doesn't translate? Pdfpdf (talk) 13:09, 2 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
His sig says "Want to have a chat?" - "chat all you like" seemed a perfectly friendly tag on my post. As to your other remarks - I suggest you re-read Wikipedia:CIVIL#Edit_summary_dos_and_don.27ts.Garlicplanting (talk) 14:37, 2 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
Umm yeah, you are on my talk page here buddy, but if I have caused any insult I do apologise. And 'Want to have a chat?' is simply more interesting than 'Talk' but adding 'Chat all you like' is hardly appropriate. Nford24 (Want to have a chat?) 15:59, 2 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

RD edit

Fascinating. Never heard of it! Please point me at more information. Pdfpdf (talk) 11:15, 17 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

From what I know the Decoration for Officers of the Royal Naval Reserve (RD) is much like our RFD, see Decoration for Officers of the Royal Naval Reserve. Now the GG has made all of the honours lists from 1975 onwards more accessable, I have found quite a few RD recipients receiving the AM. Nford24 (Want to have a chat?) 11:50, 17 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
So (presumably) RD is an "Imperial" award? So why doesn't it appear in the Order-of-Wearing document? (OK, that's a somewhat rhetorical question. Never-the-less, it will probably need an answer sometime in the not too distant future ... ) Pdfpdf (talk) 12:14, 17 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Post-noms template edit

For it to appear in the Post-noms template, there needs to be some justification - i.e. a supporting reference. It doesn't appear in "Order of wearing", so what's your justification? i.e. please provide a justification, or revert your edit. Pdfpdf (talk) 12:29, 17 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

I added it because some recipients of the RD appear in the Honour's lists starting from 1975 Queen's Birthday Honours (Australia) - See AM Military Division. The RD is from what I can gather is rated as an equiv to the Efficiency Decoration (ED). The are both indirectly listed as being No. 95 on the list - Long Service Medals (Includes Imperial efficiency and long service awards.) - Which in its self is very vague. Hey edit

Nathanael, the images you uploaded a while back -- the Officer of Cadets (OOC) Ranks insignias? Those were very useful. But last week, you made a mistake.

You uploaded new versions of the insignias, which you found on UniformInsignias.org. Those are not free images; they belong to Tony Baldwin (the graphic designer). And even if they were free, you shouldn't have uploaded them as "own work", because they're not your own work and that screws up the provenance.

The new images have been removed and the old versions restored; please don't do that again. Thank you. DS (talk) 15:53, 29 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

I strongly suspect that at least some of the Queensland State Emergency Service images have the same issues. Please tag those images you didn't create yourself for speedy deletion. Huon (talk) 16:59, 29 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Stuart Smith edit

Hi Nathanael. Is there a reason that User:Nford24/Stuart Smith (general) has not been moved to the main wikispace (and had various links created)? I found it with Google, and there doesn't appear to be a page in main space for him. I'm pretty sure all generals are by definition notable enough. Cheers. --Scott Davis Talk 02:04, 1 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

I didn't move the page into mainspace because it lacks a lot of core information about the person (with the exception of the honours) owing to copyright on his bio by defence. If you feel that it would be best to move it I am more then happy too. Nford24 (Want to have a chat?) 03:30, 1 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
I'd move it out and link it up, and cite what we can from the public biographies and news reports of promotions and awards. While it's in user-space, it looks like you're still planning to work on it before it goes live, but he's been in the current job long enough people will look here to find out stuff sometimes. Thanks for starting it. --Scott Davis Talk 03:39, 1 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Order of the Thistle edit

Order of the Thistle Hi Nathaniel Because I do not understand the formatting stuff properly, I am not confident to make the amendment myself, but the following correction May interest you. The Chancellor of the Order of the Thistle remains the Earl of Airlie. The confusion with lord Smith... arises because the honours list for the thistle is formally approved by the chancellor of that order and, depending how you have access to it, the text all runs together to appear that lord Smith of Kelvin is, in fact appointed chancellor. He was not. The full PDF transcript available through the gov.uk portal is clearer if your device can read it properly. "Chancellor of the Order of the Thistle" is then clearly on a separate line as authorising the publication of the names of the two new knights. I think the confusion arose because of the way newspapers reported these appointments. Thistle appointments, as you know, are normally made on St Andrew's Day in November, but last year that day was overshadowed by a helicopter tragedy in Glasgow. I assume that is why the announcement was deferred to New Year. Had the thistle appointments been issued alone, I do not think the reporting would have been confused. As it is, the press converted the whole PDF document into text for their papers and the formatting suddenly became confusing. PS sorry to appear a pedant, but I am pleased that you take a real interest in the honours system. I am looking forward to seeing who gets the three vacant Garters (if any are awarded this year) on St George's Day - not long to wait! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.129.99.146 (talk) 11:34, 13 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Re: ADF Ranks edit

Hey! I am just after an opinion. A graphic designer has done the various RAN/RAAF & ANC/AAFC/AAC ranks using his awesome skill and I have been given access to the originals and permission to use them on WP. I have added the flag rank hardboards to the RAN page and was wondering (in your opinion) if I should replace the sleeve lace with the SRI (soft rank insignia) versions then add the hard board's as well. I will (in the coming days) add the OR/WO ranks and the WON special insignia to complete the section. Cheers Nford24 (PE121 Personnel Request Form) 08:34, 2 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

VCDF edit

Hi Nford24. Just dropping a note to let you know I have just reverted your addition on the VCDF Group to Vice Chief of the Defence Force (Australia). [4] Quite simply, I reverted the edit as it was unreferenced and a near copy and paste of the text on the Defence VCDF Group page, which is a violation of WP:COPYVIO. Your initiative and contributions are definitely appreciated, but Wikipedia cannot contain copyright text from other websites or sources. If you could please reference future article additions and rewrite text, it would be most appreciated. Cheers, Abraham, B.S. (talk) 07:30, 3 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hey, okay. The VCDFG is essential to the page (as the actual job of the VCDF is to oversea the group). I tried to reword statement but simply couldn't without removing fact and making it a part truth. Nford24 (PE121 Personnel Request Form) 09:02, 3 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
