About Me

edit

I am new to wiki, (at least to editing) so please help me as I stumble. I'm flexible, open to new ideas, and enjoy learning about things that I'm unfamiliar. I have many interests, and especially enjoy photography. I admire those who are good at it. I am not one of those, but hope to be one day.

welcome--I haven't moved the material to the page yet,--it's mostly up on my talk page. And if you want to see what photographers can do around here, take a look at David Shankbone. DGG (talk) 03:14, 13 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks DGG. I think you mean http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:DavidShankBone Great stuff! Thanks.

spam blacklist table

edit

I've been thinking about the spam blacklist, and how it works. I may start to fill in this table as time permits. Here is what I have in mind...

Here is a review of proposed removals for this month, with data collected from the [Feb Archives] & [Active List]

site name date of last "spam", attempts made to prevent spam (before the blacklist) user who blacklisted user who proposed removal user who made decision user who archived (with time in days after decision made before archive) comments
unrealroyal.com maintained on blacklist because it was determined an 'unreliable source'. Is that the mission of the blacklist? not listed on Project Spam
hanazagorova.xf.cz archived without determination or reply by any admins

not listed on Project Spam

careers.stateuniversity.com website in possible violation of copyright, and there are advertisements.

not listed on Project Spam

Message from SEOlogy.co.il CEO request for many sites to be removed from blacklist, but they were not as they lack notability. Many sites lack notability - all of which are not on the black list. If the "spam" problem has been resolved... is it necessary to keep on the blacklist?
www.encyclopediadramatica.com/org not a reliable source, as it is a wiki. ?but what was the spam history??

not listed on Project Spam

www.petitiononline.com/njs4ever/petition.html not a reliable source. ?spam history requested, but not provided?
bowsershrine.com User appologized, said he would not spam. blacklist removed
www.journalreview.org Long discussion... summary: Several links made over 2 years ago. Site blacklisted, without being placed on proposed removal or any warnings. EBMdoc offered appology. Notability not questioned. Same admin placed site directly on blacklist, responded to EBMdoc, made ruling, and archived discussion.
www.famousamericans.net/fredericknashogden/
insomnia.ac Pending decision
asiafanclub.com Pending decision
petitiononline.com How to I look up the history of using this site to spam wikipedia? It was not discussed in this denied request.

some thoughts

edit
  1. should there be a separate "spam" blacklist and a "not notable" list? Seems like many of the above are "not notable" but risk damage of the "spam" label
  2. defer to whitelist is too easy... is there a way to automate an intermediate solution? for example, de-list a site, but watch it??? so that it will show up in a special section of "watched sites" so an admin can monitor?
    1. this may put too much of a burden on admins?
    2. does the current system put an unfair burden to be delisted?
  3. is there a way to see how many times attempts are made to add current blacklisted sites? that might give a good idea of the 'big' spam. could there be a counter next to each domain - as to how many times since blacklist an attempt has been made to add it??
  4. i may consider placing some of the sites in my table... after I review them carefully myself... as a request to be removed from the blaclist. I think that some of these should not be on the spam list.
    1. i wish that the admins would offer me more feedback here.... so far, no admin comments to my questions. why?
    2. How many admins are active in this project? Hu12 seems to be the most active... I wonder what his/her thoughts are on all of this?
